Very nice review once again from TheCameraStoreTV Seems like the auto focus is lightning quick! Overall, seems like this camera rocks in videos especially the slow-motion footage as well as having the cheapest 4k video shooter in the market.

The Canon 1D-C of 2012 was oriented more to videography but it was very expensive. However the Panasonic GH4 was a the first affordable photo camera that was oriented to 4K videography. Actually this move of Panasonic saved the micro 4/3 mount.

I sold my Canon 5d MK2 yesterday and pre-ordered the GH4. I'm so happy with Panasonic, this GH4 is for many videographers the gift of 2014. New interesting discussions on the web to using the 4K camera as a source material, then down-scaling and transcoding it to either ProRes or Cineform 1080p at 10bit 4:4:4. I will believe that this camera blows many popular dslr out of the water.

Best GH4 review I've seen so far. Shame about the headphone jack placement, yet so nice to see a reviewer actually go beyond the obvious and mention it. Playback button location is still a pain too. Please contact Panasonic to complain about this. the more voices, the better! I already did so.

The Slippers segment was a great addition lol.

A follow-up vid with a bit of image testing, sport shooting, low light shooting, focusing speed/accuracy in low light and fast moving, would be nice to round out this excellent video capability review. Thanks for the great work!

Video request: I really want to see how the GH4 tracks motion for high speed sports photography, and I bet a lot of other people are curious about this too. Why don't you guys take that camera to Sunshine for spring skiing? Not gopro POV of course, but standing on the side of the hill tracking skiers coming towards you and also moving side to side across the frame. Shallow DOF stuff if possible with the high shutter speed. Road trip!? Just a thought

The GH4 actually outputs 10-bit 4:2:2 directly from the integrated Mini HDMI connector, the YAGH isn't necessary unless you need XLR connections or SDI.

they missed the one other feature that finally got added to the GH4, they forgot to mention the focus peaking and zebra pattern for manual focus. you can kinda see it in the video(at the 1:47 mark) but its one of those blink and you'll miss it moments. other than that, they did a great job with the overall presentation of the camera.

Awesome review! I want to replace my 60D with this baby for it's wonderful video, but I need decent high ISO stills too. I'd love to see some high ISO stills to see how noise reduction is doing. Please oh please post some footage from the external recorder at 4:2:2 10bit! Then I can tell Panasonic please just take my damn money!

Guys, many of us are interested in video, but we are not professional using the camera in manual mode all the time. As such, VIDEO AF PERFORMANCE is one the most desired features to look for - much more so than 4K - something that your review did not even mention, in spite of being focused in the video features of the camera. The 70D´s dual-pixel video AF proved to be significantly better than the GH3´s, I´m sure there´s a lot of us who would like to know how the GH4 compares to it. Thanks guys.

I'm thinking about upgrading from my Canon 7D to this so I'm kind of more interested in the still side of this camera, but the 4k video capabilities is obviously an amazing feature. Great review.

Re stabilization comparison at 10:58 - note that the GX7 does not do in-body (sensor) stabilization either when shooting video. Speculation is that cooling is the issue.

Lets see... Nearly pro still performance, weather sealed, amazing 1080p shooting options, 4k, expandable pro interface with SDI and XLR... for 1698 for body. I expect this will be backordered for at least a year. Hopefully I can get a used gh3 though to replace my gh2. Panasonic's camera department is simply amazing. This is a game changer like when the 5d mk2 first came out.

The Camera Store I think that the reason why the GH4 doesn't have IBIS like the GX7 is because they had to solve the heat dissipation issue, therefore, in order to keep the GH4 within the same form factor as the GH3 with no extra bulk, it would had been impossible to solve both and they opted to address the heat issue. What I would had liked though is that Panasonic had the money to develop an exclusive multi-aspect sensor just for the GH4 - like the GH1 and GH2 - and that would not just give a less crop for both Cinema 4K and UHD but it would not need the extra crop to match 2:1 pixel count for 4K.

You have answered the questions about the autofocus being able to track a moving subject well, but can you actually use the EVF when shooting continuous stills. Most EVFs will show the photo you just took instead of a live view, which makes it difficult to track a subject in motion. Really liked the review though. Good job guys.

great reporting, I wanted to get GH3 based on your reporting back then, but as a videographer, I hesitated to have my main video camera be a DSLR or micro 4/3 camera. This is encouraging, but I'm still going to wait on next iteration of 4K to be a second camera for my canon xa20. I like the added audio capabilities, but your comments about needing a power source kind of kills it for an EHG shooting environment which is 75% of my work.

I'm guessing Panasonic really had to step up its specs and features after the Blackmagic Cinema, which also offers a m43 mount. Hopefully this makes quality filmmaking available to almost anyone.

I was hoping for a review of this camera so much and even better that you guys are the first! One question though that was overlooked, how is the low light performance compared to say a 7D or 5D mk3 just to give people a rough idea?

Looks super sharp, might not need to do crops anymore to show lens sharpness etc.

I'm definitely considering buying this for video, but I'm a bit unsure because I love the Canon glass I have for my 5D, and don't know how I feel about buying all new lenses. Is there an EF mount adapter that can be used with this? If so, what would be the limitations of using my Canon glass with the GH4?

You cant put I.S. in the gh4 body because the sensor needs to disperse the heat if you're shooting 4k. The gx7 didn't need I.S because it didn't shoot 4k, therefore there was less risk of overheating.

Another unbelievable video guys! I was wondering who would be the first to bring out a really good review of the highly anticipated (by me anyway) GH4, and I loved your review as always!!! Two questions though: 1) Do you have any explanation for the blocky quality of that opening 4K shot? That looks pretty much how I would expect 4K to look at 100Mb/s data rate, which is to say, not good... The rest of the 4K footage looked pretty good, I've got to go back and re-look to see if you recorded any of it at 200Mb/s. 2) Does the GH4 have still image quality to really use it as a stills camera so it can finally be the all in one camera, or are good APS-C sensor cameras still just plain better for IQ in stills? I would like to sell my A57, and just have a GH4 and a hacked GH2 for my two cameras. Thanks again! :-)

I don't think the cinematography brick is suited for run and gun either. It looks like it is ideally suited for broadcast crews who want to hook it up to a mobile van for either live streaming or recording. It may be 4:2:0 at 4K or UHD but downscale UHD to 1080p (must be a high quality resize) and you end up with 4:4:4. The more I see of this camera, the more awesome it looks. Also, as a side note, I was at a shoot yesterday and I dropped my DSLR (slid off the rails from shoulder height as I was carrying the tripod) and it bounced on the pavement. Thankfully they are built like little tanks with only scuffing. I shudder to think what would have happened if I had an FS700 or Red falling from that height. That ruggedness and light-weight body, after yesterday, is now a big plus as I think of my next purchase. Thanks guys for the great review.
