Nine years after this review this is my fav camera. I fell in love and I have it everyday.

It's seems strange that they put the 'manual' dials on the fixed lens LX100 and standard point and shoot controls on the interchangeable lens GM5. Thanks for the review.

Superb and informative review, as always. Very interesting that the art filters are now in the menu, although it has always been a feature that many adjustments were possible by using the side tabs. For instance, in 'old days' the aperture can be adjusted by activating the side tab and altering the slider, either by touchscreen of control wheel. Also the filters selected on [G6 for example] will be used by video as long as video is activated by red button. Not as versatile as on GM5 maybe, but still more than you get on many rivals.

Great review as always - thanks. I love my GM1 - but yes I miss the EVF if I am in bright sunlight - I just received my LX100 few days back and it is a very nice camera - of course my GX7 are my favorite of all mirror-less - but the small size of the GM1 is so nice - I typically have Olympus 45mm F1.8 on it - such a nice lens - and then I have the LX100 - Yes Panasonic put Touch LCD on the LX200 - I suspect I will be looking for a GM5 when prices start coming down - as I love the Scroll wheel and the 2 Fn buttons as well as the EVF - the GM1 is a joy to use - I am new fashioned as I prefer a Mode Dial VS what the LX100 has - which is a copy of the Fuji X100s :) To hard code a control wheel on top to a shutter speed is not as nice - I prefer to have a generic wheel on top and the scrool wheel with the dual push option - so I can decide which I want to control what function - I am fine with aperture on the lens - The lens on the LX100 is a gem - but I wish they had just kept the format of the GX7/GM1/GM5 on the LX100 - so for next generation I would love to see 1) IBIS 2) Tilt LCD on GMx 3) 4k video and the LX200 to have 1) Touch LCD 2) Mode Dial 3) Tilt LCD 4) Mic in

The design is just awesome!!

I take GM1 over GM5 because it doesn't have EVF, what I would like to be external like Olympus allows to have with AP2 port. And then the internal flash is always with you, so the most common situations you have flash to fill in etc. And when you need better flash, you want to bounce it and off camera (hold it with other hand etc) and there the internal flash is great because you can trigger it. The EVF has its use in some rare cases, but its so small camera that its easy to just shade screen if really required. And the screen is bigger on GM1 than on GM5 what is big difference when just pointing.

Very usefull video

The only thing keeping me from buying this camera is that I can't figure out the GM5's flash compatibility based on the info from Panasonic. I want to know if the GM5 can sync with a Panasonic or Olympus hot shoe flash using high sync mode on the flash and a camera shutter speed like 1/500th a second or faster. Some of the information on the Panasonic website says the camera will only sync with a flash at 1/50th or slower while another document says the camera will work with high speed sync on Panasonic flashes.

Does the gm5 have NFC?
