This camera is definitely the best entry level dslr camera. I did a lot of research back in 2017 and I never regret purchasing it. I still use it to this day.

@Altohamy check out my very first video, about the food trucks. I shot it with the g7. Word of advice, get the lumix g85. It's a step up from the g7. I sold my g7 and got the g85.

@Altohamy I got the g7 at the time (around 2017?) because of price point and general well roundedness of usage for videography. From what I recall I did all the research for all budget mirrorless dslrs at the time and the G7 for me felt like the best well rounded beginner camera for videography.

I love this camera, I have used it just for a few mounths, i got it from friend but it was great! I love Lumix cameras, my first camera is GH3 and I still got it! :)

I bought my G7 in 2018 as well :D I use it for KZfaq videos, Stockfootage and short films. I was able to get smoother shots by adding some weight to the camera with a Camvate universal cage and a wodden handle. I mainly use the 12-60mm f3.5 and the 45-150mm f4.5. I like the camera very much, but would like to upgrade to a G85 or even GH5, but that is currently out of my budget

I shot some stock footage with it as well... Really great camera. Yeah man with those 2 lenses you have pretty much every focal length covered... That's awesome. I'm a big fan of adding weight to the cameras using cages.. For run and gun jobs that's the best! I have one cage and wodden handle for my GH5 and I definitely recommend it. Thanks for stopping by! I got the G7 back in 2016. It's a bloody good camera. I still use it in 2021 for paid work (real estate & portrait)

I’ve used medium format to mft and although the larger the sensor the better however in natural light I get very good images, more than the needs of social media. The matrix metering is one of the best which again surprisingly pleasing. In recent years I’ve used an old Yashica 127b, Nikon Df, Nikon D750, Nikon D3500, Fuji X100f and the Fuji Xt30 mark II. While wandering around a local department store I noticed the G7 going for £350 and I could not resist. Years ago I had a GX7 which was surprisingly good so I’m g well pleased with the G7 performance. I am thinking of doing video again and this camera does fit into my plans.

The LUMIX G7’s definitely something I am looking for because I’m looking forward to starting out as a content creator and that I want to have some great 1080p/4K video quality. Anyways, great review and I’ll be keeping my eye on it and looking for great deals to help save me money down the road whenever I get the opportunity to buy it.

Very instructive video as well as your excellent free LUTs to achieve cinematic look. I'm testing my new G7 for one week. The only what i am missing is stabilization. Do you think its worth the change for the G80/85 for its IBIS vs spending for a gimbal? As i put some old lenses the weight of the gear is almost 1kg so I dont find a "cheap" ( around 200€) gimbal.

Thanks very much Luis! I think it really depends on what kind of footage you are shooting... Having the ibis will help you getting more stabilization overall, but it will never deliver that gimbal look. In my opinion you will be better of with a gimbal + G7. Thanks very much for watching

@ Não tenho grande experiência com lentes nativas, apenas usei a do Kit e depois passei para a 12-35. tive a 50mm f1.8 da Nikon e tenho ainda uma Helios 58mm F2.0. Relativamente a 12-35mm acho fantastica, o f2.8 constante mudou completamente a minha forma de trabalhar, o estabilizador trabalha mesmo bem e não tenho nada a apontar quanto a qualidade de imagem. Só tenho pena pois 35mm, por vezes, torna-se bastante limitativo, mas a 12-60 não oferece F2.8 constantes, de modo que fiquei pela 12-35 e estou bastante satisfeito.

Thanks man! I never use auto focus, but the last time I tested, the autofocus was not good with this camera.

@ Got mine a couple days ago. I really like it (and it's KILLER for filmmaking / cinematic stuff). But you're right... the autofocus isn't great, at all. Not a deal-breaker. I also bought a Canon M50 MKII (for the autofocus mainly). They're both great cameras but I have to say I prefer the look and functions of the Lumix G7! You've done some amazing work with it... and I've seen a ton of other people do beautiful work as well. It's worth it, in my humble opinion!

I'm looking at the g85 for a little more future proofing- slight but noticeable- but if that falls through, I might get the g7 as a starter. I know the g95 line(s) and the GH line(s) exists, but at my level of entry as a hobbyist just looking to explore- spending 2x (or more) seems like potential overkill until I know what my needs as a creator are.

I actually started with my G7 and after a while I bought the GH5 to upgrade the production value of my videos. I'm very happy with both cameras and if you're just starting out, I think that the G7 or G85 will be a good decision! Thanks for watching 🙂

Muito obrigado por se inscrever, Bruno! Para a G7 não é necessário um Gimbal muito potente porque a camara é leve as lentes M43 também tendem a ser muito leves. No meu caso eu uso um FeiyuTech a2000 e estou satisfeito! Obrigado!

Love all the details in this video! I'm thinking about buying the G7 - but have one question... If I were to set this camera up on a tripod, click record - would it record a wedding ceremony? Is sound and auto-focus strong enough on it's own? (my wedding ceremony hahaa. So I would not be able to monitor the camera) Would love to hear what you think, thank you!

The g7 only records 30 minutes at a time, so you would have to press the record button every 30 minutes. Also, I don't recommend using the autofocus features on this camera! So, it can definitely use this camera for wedding ceremony but you would need to press the record button every 30 minutes and you would have to use manual focus. Thanks for watching

I have two options Sony a6000 or Panasonic Lumix G7. Heared some cons about G7 so decided to buy a6000 next month but today found your contents. I think Panasonic Lumix G7 will be the best! And also fits my budget :)

Loved the video, Got 1 of these cameras recently. Did you know about the nintendo code like hack to get unlimited recording ?. I have no need for longer record times for what i am shooting but its a nice little hack when you need it to go the extra mile.

Nice video, man! I've had a different experience regarding the low light performance of the G7. I've found it to be about one stop better than the GH4 and pretty much on par with the GH5. Of course, it depends what's your use case and your acceptable level of noise, but I wouldn't consider low light performance as a downside, given it goes head to head with the GH5.

Thanks man! I totally understand your point. For me, I just don't like having to deal with noise, and even though for some people it might be acceptable, for me it's not... @@michobenz4531 hey man! Yes it is the g7! 😁 The g7 is a great camera! Of course the gh5 is better (and if you have the money I totally recommend it) but it is also more expensive... If you're on a budget the g7 will do for sure. And if you wanna benefit with image stabilization I recommend the Panasonic Lumix g85… which is basically the g7 with image stabilization! This is such a helpful video, thank you. I am setting up a lumix on a tripod in my yoga studio to shoot me for online classes via zoom while I have other students in the room. I currently have an Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18 mm F4.0-5.6 Lens - but need to zoom in closer to my mat so that I'm not capturing students in the room. Which telephoto lens would you recommend to be able to have the camera about 6m away? Thank you for any advice you can provide!

I sure hope it is still worth it! Just bought a used one 30.04.2021 for $400 (local purchase, with kit lens and OEM battery/charger, box and paperwork). It is fully functional...though "heavilly" used with 130 shutter count and 109 power cycles. Ha Ha...it is MINT. What a great camera for the price.

If you need a headphone jack I suggest getting a HDMI to an adaptor with a 3.5 TRS jack, and a little headphone amplifier, about the size of the camera battery. If you're recording a rock band you need the headphone level way up. One peculiarity of the Panasonic TRRS mic input jack is the pin assignment is completely different to standard e.g. Rode Stereo-Mic with a TRS plug, you need a little converter cable. The Panasonic Stereo Shotgun mic has three microphones and uses all four pins.

Amazing Review... But in the amazon, it shows that G7 can shoot upto 50fps only. Is there any major difference between 50fps and 60fps? and there is any chance to affect the footage when I slowed it down?

Thanks very much 🙂 The G7 can shoot in 1080p 60fps. But if you're buying the camera in a PAL area/country you will need to do a little trick to change the settings to NTSC and unlock the 1080p 60fps and 4K 30fps. You can check out this video tutorial to make these changes on the camera: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbJjaqqc0LPFgqM.html My camera came with the PAL settings as well and I changed it to NTSC according to the video above. The difference between 50fps and 60fps is that you will achieve more slow motion if you're using 60fps rather than 50fps. I hope this helps!

But if you do watch the videos, take in mind that those videos we're made 2+ years ago when I was starting my filmmaking journey. And if done now, I would do everything differently when filming those videos 😂

Well, I was about to buy that camera but I found a better offered on the Panasonic Lumix G85 so I go with that M43 camera and OMG is marvelous I can imagine how good is the G7 too is almost the same.

Hi Andrea! It's a great camera for sure. Yeah, there's no headphone jack, so that can be a pain when you want to monitor your audio properly. The workaround for that is to have the audio levels showing on the LCD screen and make sure they are not peaking (turning red). For the mic set up I recommend the deity v-mic d3 pro. That's a great all-around mic in my opinion. I hope this helps 🙂

I currently use the panasonic G7.....Amazing camera though I'm ready to upgrade to maybe the Panasonic G9 or GH5 or should i switch to the sony A7iii? Any advice?

Hey! I do have the GH5 and I'm very happy with what it can do! I think that it's a tough decision choosing between the GH5 and the A7III. The A7III is definitely better with autofocus, low light, and depth of field giving you much more bokeh! And it's better for photography for sure. But because it's a full frame, the lenses are very expensive. The GH5 in the other hand is a lot more focused to video specs, offering the amazing 4K 10bit 422 internal and the amazing IBIS, and the lenses are a lot cheaper leaving you with some extra money to invest in lighting and other important gear! I think that in the end they are both great cameras and it all depends on your budget and what you wanna do with the camera! Hope this helps! 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

With this camera you will not be able to record more than 30 minutes straight without having to press record again. I don't do live streams.

While I love my G7, I’m torn at the moment. I want more stabilization in my footage. I use a monopod which helps tremendously but walking footage proposes a problem. I ninja walk but still can’t get the stability I want, even in post (plus I hate the warp effect). A ronin sc would be great but at close to $300 US, you’re almost halfway to a g85 WITH IBIS. I don’t think a camvate or small rig cage with attachments would help much so I ask, what do you use for stability and would it be worth it to jump to the g85 or get a gimbal? Thanks.

Hi Justin, thanks for reaching out! As I said in this video, the lack of stabilization on the G7 is definitely a downside of this camera... Because I own the G7 for several years now, I learned how to work around this issue. For me, I either use a tripod for locked out shots, or use a gimbal for motion shots. The gimbal I use is the feiyutech a2000, and even though it's an old gimbal, it can get the job done. You can find better gimbals nowadays though... I bought mine several years ago. Now, regarding your question, I don't think the G85 for itself would give the results you're looking for. For walking motion footage, if you use solely the G85 without any gimbal or glidecam, you will experience shaky footage as well! The Ibis helps a little bit that's true, but the Ibis for itself will not solve your problem. A small rig cage will help a little for handheld footage but only when shooting without walking too much, so a rig cage will not solve your problem either. Therefore, I would recommend buying a gimbal to pair with the G7, instead of buying a G85 or a small rig cage. If you want to get smoth footage when walking, G7 + gimbal, is in my opinion the best solution for your problem, and you will save some money as well. The only downside, is that you will have to hustle a little bit when balancing the gimbal with the camera... I hope this helps! 🙂

@ thanks for the reply Vitor. I’ve filmed a few weddings on the G7with a gimbal (the bigger Ronin I believe) and enjoyed it but got my arms workout for the day because how heavy it was. Footage was pretty smooth with very little stab in post in FCP X. I did shoot another wedding with a GH5 handheld and with a monopod and surprisingly the handheld footage turned out pretty nice, but not as nice as the Ronin. I may look into the Ronin SC because of its lightweight functionality. I bought a cheap Amazon “glidecam” (Neewer) that I just didn’t like. Because of how light the G7 is, is hard to get it weighted correctly, at least for me that is. For the time being, I may just save up and wait for the GH6 if that ever happens. @@JustinMannMedia you're quite welcome 🙂 I can definitely relate to that! In the past I've shot some weddings, and I used both the GH5 on a cage rig and a G7 on a gimbal. Weddings can be very fisically exhausting. For me, because my gimbal is not as heavy as the Ronin S, and I overall I found those 2 camera setups to be very similar when it comes to weight. I'm with you brother, waiting for the GH6, not quite sure when it will come out though! Cheers man!
