Panasonic SA-PT750 DVD CD Stuck on Initialize. Can I fix this one?

This one was given to me non functional. Turns on, CD drawer does not open, just displays Initialize please wait message.
Having never seen one of these before as it was made 5 years after I left the business and during the 10 years that I didn't pick up a screw driver as far as repairing electronics went this will be interesting to see the design changes from the prior models I was familiar with.

One of the best video you made so far. Whenever you work on Panasonic dvd players or recorders it peeks my interest by a factor of 100. Panasonic dvd units have a special place with me since they hold up better then the other brands I've own for everyday usage. I've had Toshiba, Pioneer, and even Sony players but couldn't hold up as well as the Panasonic units. That's from my own personal experience. I use mine EVERYDAY because I don't like today's garbage content on tv. So I do my own programing. You damn right there's alot of us still use dvd players. A much better way to watch old tv shows, movies and concerts without the annoying pharmaceutical commercials. This way, you can watch the entire content without the interruptions! The idea of still owning physical media still appeals to a lot of us. The entertainment industry now are trying to influence the viewing public to steer away from physical media so they can instead charge you to watch a particular content. No way... not this guy. Dvds provide more than the content, they include extra bonus features you can't get through paid services like digital satellite and streaming services.

I'm with you on that. I have Netflix and prime. Still have crave through my TV provider. I was testing this unit with the movie lethal weapon with all the speakers and sub. It actually sounds great. Now I think that my team got eliminated last night I will sit down and watch lethal weapon from bluray tonight. Forgot how good that movie is. Can't wait for part 5 that Mel Gibson is directing himself. That will be the final one as these guys are old as he'll now. Wait a minute that would make me......

weird I had a Panasonic DVD recorder and it was a piece of junk, kept randomly stopping when recording onto discs, replaced with a Sony which worked fine, I still have and use two Sony Blu-ray players, a Pioneer bluray, an all-region capable Toshiba bluray and a high end Denon bluray transport picked up cheap on eBay.

@@markrowe8824 I have 3 panasonic DVD recorders that work. Don't get much use. My toshiba (Funai) DVD recorders on the other hand are in use constantly and they have been flawless. I did pick up another panasonic DVD recorder a few years ago but the laser is fubar.

@markrowe8824 you probably didn't know how to operate it correctly. What model number did you have. What part of the country are you in. I had those other brands you mention didn't stand up very well for everyday usage you ding dong!

These 5 disc tray mechanisms were first seen in CD players and suffered from timing issues if the tray was forced back in by hand. Re the Pioneer Karaoke player, i hope you can get it for $14, with any luck it will just need a service and new belts, The later models had AC3 RF outputs and gave superb sound.

I'm heading there right after lunch. Hope its stull there. Need another one for my collection. They say it's a disease collecting these old tech devices. Well at least this disease doesn't kill you.

@@12voltvids Buy them whilst you can, the day will come soon when they will all have gone. I have a spare bedroom full of racks floor to ceiling jam packed with them. Now that i will be fully retired at the end of this month, i must sort them out and make a few trips to the recycling. At least it's a disease that we can cure at any time, all it takes is to stop looking for more, but where is the fun in that.

Went back to buy it and on closer inspection parts have been picked off it so I left it where it was

@@12voltvids That's a shame, at least you had a chance to inspect it first. I have had my fingers burned many times buying gear that was sold as spares or repair to find parts had been removed making it worthless.

Early Panasonic single DVD players were well regarded for the pictire quality.

I've had bad luck with some panasonic dvd recorders I'm guessing the laser goes bad in them because when i try to record with them it gives an error and then it won't even play a disc after that. the Panasonic DMR-ES20 i have the dvd drive is still good but has distorted b&w video on all the video outputs not sure what causes that.

Hello dave, i’m local to you and was wondering if you do repairs? I have two cameras, sony trv340 and sony hvr-z1e, and they both have error c:31:23. Also if you can do PAL 8mm capture.

Yes I do repair cameras when they are repairable (many are not due to parts) yes I have pal equipment for 8mm, hi8, digital 8, minidv, hdv, vhs, svhs and betacam sx.

@@12voltvids so basically error description (this goes for both sony cameras): they were working for roughly a year or two of me owning them until the c:31:23 error hit. basically the camera refuses to accept tapes and screams at me to eject when i try to put one in. they have both been stored in the same environment, which is my bedroom, and i also have owned a canon xl1 during this time which has remained fully working and functional.

@@catsbyondrepair That would be FUBAR, fucked up beyond any repair. The Laser Karoke player I referred to in this video was such. I went back to Value Village to buy it with the 30% senior discount and figured I would plug it in. Dead. Hmmm, I opened the CD slot door and looked inside. Hmmm no CD tray visible. Could see the track it slides in and teh gears. OK someone robbed the CD tray, I wonder what other parts are missing. Told the guy that parts were missing and it wasn't even worth 10 bucks figuring he would drop the price to 1 or 2 and he took it away and tossed it into the bin.

Somehow I came across an LG DVD player and the tray also opened with errors or did not see the discs and on the LG website there was new software that was recorded on a CD and through its own laser it updated the software after that the player worked with a bang

Software updates sometimes fixes things. I have a Samsung TV that needed an update to stop it from rebooting when the volume was changed by a universal remote. Factory remote no problem use my cable box remote and bam set reboots and the Samsung logo came up. Software fixed that.
