Noah said this about his dad in an interview, "He was a surgeon, but in 2002 he got brain cancer and died. My first solo record, Young Prayer, was all about him. He was the biggest influence on my life and his death still affects me now." Thirteen years later we get this from Noah and Dave. It's like Animal Collective re-shot the last scene of the 1982 movie "White Dog." But instead of the dog representing racism, the dog in the video represents cancer. It's owner, Death, let's the dog loose and it literally tears the panda family apart. But the heartbreaking event is depicted in a beautiful, serene manner. The parade is over but I don't think there could be a better eulogy for Noah's dad than this song and video. It's easy to be bitter about losing a family member to cancer. In a weird way, listening to the lyrics of this song and watching the video has brought me a little more peace.

As someone who heard and liked this song a coupld of years ago, and then just found out a family member has a very serious cancer with short prognosis - I can attest that it makes it 200x more powerful and gut wrenching in that instance

So how come the thumbnail is that of a crab(cancer star sign)? I thought it had something to do with the star sign and its difficulty with letting go of the past, so he made this video for himself to forget some things, and then shared it with us.

This was the first Panda Bear song I had ever listened to. From beginning to end, this song was painting the most beautiful images in my mind through my synesthesia, while I took in the dark lyrics and melancholy tone of the song overall. Then, I come to discover this music video, I'm absolutely taken aback by how close my mental interpretation resembled the visuals in the actual music video. The actual implications of the music video itself are heartbreaking, from the information surrounding this song to the video itself.

This song always reminds me of my grandfather, who passed away from acute onset leukemia in 2001. He was my hero, he was my dad when my dad wasn't ready to be a grown-up. I miss him every day.

I had a younger brother die of cancer when he was 11 and this song to this day still gives me the same kinds of emotoons icdid upon inital listen.. still makes me cry a little and im a pretty stoic dude about the whole subject. What a powerful piece of art that was created. To all those who have suffered a loss of any kind due to cancer, my heart goes out to you

Sebastian White actually it's inspired by that personal moment but the album is supposed to be way less personal so this song is about how disease is trying to survive the same way people are and it's a fair war.

Cuando busqué en internet el significado de esta canción encontré que Noah Lennox la había escrito a causa de una enfermedad de su padre (cáncer, según recuerdo. El perro representa la enfermedad en el video). Ahora que mi padre murió por una enfermedad igual de destructiva, las letras de la canción y el sample de Tchaikovski tienen todo el sentido para mí, y sí, más o menos así es sentir la muerte de un padre, así que siempre que vengo a buscar esta canción pienso en él de nuevo. The video is done by Avey and I imagine has incredibly personal imagery that only close members of the family would know. Some more obvious things is that this song is empathizing with the illness that killed his father. Each one of the characters is in a panda bear outfit. There are two children. Matt Lennox and Noah Lennox. It's symbolic of their family. The father knows he will not outlive the disease and he embraces death. The enigmatic character whose tool is cancer, the dog. When we see the dog tearing apart the father. It is symbolic of the cancer that ravaged Noah's father.

***** Matt isn't Noah's only sibling, he has a sister too so I doubt the pandas are meant to represent each and every member of his family individually even though I think that's the general idea of it

My stoned interpretation: this is about a family issue of the musician. "it's all in the family" then the falling zither in the scene represents how it's the musician who is dealing with the issue depicted; as the zither enters into the video, so does the musician enter into the situation. and finally something about how the guys who do K9 bite training have families too, or sumthin. maybe someone in the musician's family worked in law enforcement. thank you for coming to my stoned TED talk. I absolutely absolutely this song but I loved it so much more when they place it at the end of the "Smoke"off the air video. its at the very end of the video and has a different music video to go with it. it goes absolutely perfectly and more powerful than this by a long shot actually.
