@@matlockmeat not quite what I meant. Ostensibly, the VIP lane relaxed DD requirements/analysis due to the emergency nature of the pandemic. This was, arguably, a reasonable thing to do. In hindsight, issues have emerged though. Oversight of lending was quite lacking it seems (even given the emergency nature of the situation). In this instance, in particular, no one would/should pay so much upfront to a newly incorporated firm with no history but Mone used her status and position to get the business. The government is now looking for fraud as it helps them to save face and draws attention away from their incompetence and/or corruption (sometimes what looks like malice is just stupidity, still a bad look for government though). I don't actually think Mone and Co. set out to defraud anyone. They probably thought we could sell PPE, boost our public image, and make some extra profit to boot (win-win!). The current reputational damage they have suffered will cause them problems down the line, hence the damage control interview and why I don't think 'defrauding' was their intention. I suspect they were hoodwinked by their PPE suppliers, who sold them duff PPE (with some working samples) to make a quick buck knowing Mone and Co. know nothing about PPE.
