In Part Three, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma ji tells us about:
(1) Burman Dada's arrangers at different times,
(2) How in 1970 Dada completed the last song 'Jeevan ki bagiya mahkegi' for his film 'Tere Mere Sapne' (1970) with only two solo players Shiv-Hari and without his regular team members RDB, Basu and Manohari, removing them permanently from his team. Dada had got annoyed, after they all left for Madras (Chennai) without completing the song of "Tere Mere Sapne', to work in RDB's film 'Lakhon Mein Ek' (1970),
(3) How Dada used to appreciate his contemporaries and even the musicians,
andm many more interesting anecdotes unknown so far.
and many other interesting anecdotes unknown so far.

That's a serendipitous discovery for Pandit ji too. He himself didn't know why SD Burman invited him and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to play for 'Jeevan ki bagiya mahkegi' without any arranger. Mesmerising to see the pieces of a puzzle fall into place with this conversation!

The puzzle will be complete when you see Manoharisingh's voice recorded interview where he says how RD took them all to Madras and Dada got rid of them. Part number I don't remember. Just type in the space provided Manohari Singh on SD Burman. Thanks.

@Shekhar Paranjpe ji, Jeevan ki bagiye is the last song 'Tere Mere Sapne film, which SD Burman himself arranged musically. Please do see other parts of his interview videos by us. This is the best song of the film, as per me. Thanks.

+Moti Lalwani We were blessed to listen the most creative music in the whole universe. I was once fallen in my life and I used to listen only dada's music in his voice and travelled from sorrows to embrace the truth of life and world around. I was always in his arms of music to understand that melody exists.

As far as Hindi film music is concerned, S. D. Burman was one and only of his kind. Innocent, devoted and uncompromising. Heard the song "Jeevan ki bagiyaa mehakegi" again after watching this video and felt Sachin Da's soul present in Hariji's flute as well Shivji's santoor. His music, like a clear mirror, reflects his beautiful soul. It's pure delight. Thanks for bringing it out, Motiji.

Amit S Very well said. I would like to add here that SDB was a multi talented genius who took interest in all aspects of film making, including telling film directors how a song will be picturised (Bimal Roy and Vijay Anand), telling lyricists which words to include (I have number of instances), telling a trained dancer which steps to take (I have Waheeda' s voice recording with me), telling his assistants how to compose and his singers how to sing and many more.

It must have been that way because while listening to his songs, many a times, I have myself found it difficult to make out if songs were made for the movie or the movie itself was made for his songs. He must have had complete vision of his songs.

SDB's selection of Shiv-Hari only for the superb song of Tere Mere Sapne and the story behind the creation of that song without arranger, is the real essence to understand SDB. This is the most important part of the interview.

A coffee table book has been published on Shiv Kumar Sharma. In that book the author has given credit to the music director and the arranger, not realizing that in this song Burman Dada was both himself, the music director and the arranger, having kicked out his assistant (son) and arrangers (Basu-Manohari), and completed the last song all by himself. I am quoting from the book a portion where it says: Shiv Kumar Sharma THE MAN & HIS MUSIC - Page 164 "... that wonderful maestro and his arranger (whoever it was in the film, decided to locate the santoor at these places, so appealingly too). "Think of ‘Jeevan ki bagiya mehkegi’, composed by SD Burman, feelingly delivered by Kishore and Lata… with its music now, what can one say? Just consider that a man and a woman (Mumtaz and Dev Anand in the film), married and in love, are expecting their first baby. The feeling can be heavenly and that feeling had to be translated into music. So we have the first interlude with the santoor and flute trilling along to lead us to the stanza: ‘Wo mera hoga’ (followed by a santoor filler) … ‘wo sapna tera hoga’ (santoor filler) … ‘mil-jul ke maanga wo tera-mera hoga (santoor filler)… ‘Jab-jab wo muskuraayega apna savera hoga, wo mera hoga’ (santoor) and so it proceeds. We are trying to map a part of the song and get scientific about what is essentially an art. And in this art, that wonderful maestro and his arranger (whoever it was in the film, decided to locate the santoor at these places, so appealingly too). Yes, arrangers, who help decide which instrument is to be located in a song, where a certain instrument will play, what and for how long, solo or ensemble, are critical; these refinements are not so known to many of us, but they have much worth in them." (Jeevan ki bagiya mehkegi' from 'Tere Mere sapne - 1971)

Lot of stuff for SD Burman fans. Talking about his recording of song "Jeevan ki bagiya mehkegi" from Tere mere sapne with just 2 musicians Shiv-Hari, he did not share the real reason with them as to his usuals Basu-Manohari, RDB etc were not called for this recording. This shows what a great humanbeing he was. Moti Lalwaniji, please continue with sharing of such knowledgable interviews of Dada Burman. If u hv any long interview with Dev Anand, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, please share. Great work. Thanks

Nirmalkumar ji, RDB, Basu and Manohari were not called for any recording after that. They were sacked as per my recorded interview with Manohari Singh which I had posted on our SDB group. RDB was called for Balancing work during recording of Mili (1975) songs. Read my reply Mr Peeyush Sharma ji.

Priceless information. That Laxmikant, Sebastian did arranging for Dada was not known before. I knew LP went to Dada to get tips on composing. Also, what a beauty is Jeevan ki bagiya mehekegi, it stands out for its composition, orchestration, singers delivery, excel in all departments. I believe the Shankar award story Shiv ji referring to is Abhiman that came after Shankar's Beimaaan. Excellent interview, Moti Sir.

Peeyush ji, 'LP going to Dada for tips' - Isn't this information part of your interview with Vijay Anand? 'Jeevan ki bagiya mehkegi' is one of the best songs of Dada Burman. And to know that he single handed composed that song without RDB and Basu-Manohari. All three did not work any more with Dada. Except when Mili (1975) songs composed by Dada had to be recorded, Dada being sick, the arranger Bablu Chakravarty went to RDB and requested him to come for balancing in absence of Dada who was an expert in balancing work. This information came from the lyricist Yogesh and arranger Bablu during my interviews with them. You have to wait for those interviews to learn that.
