IDW recently reprinted the artist edition on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of dave steven's masterpiece... giving me the opportunity not only to show off the beautiful art in that book but my new rocketeer figure a well!

Hey thanks for this I’m just recently discovering Dave Stevens… my favorite so far is his alien worlds 1 cover

Dave Stevens was possibly the greatest cheesecake pin-up artist of his generation. He could have easily just made a career doing pinups and illustrations and storyboards for movies but he blessed the comic book world with the throwback Rocketeer character. He is also an under-rated inker. I have this book as well and it was a joy to try to see what background and extras were done by other artists helping Stevens on the deadlines: Arthur Adams and Jamie Hernandez just to name a few. Great video. thanks. I look forward to your HAVANK review please =)

I have this edition as well as the originals and the cover you were wondering about at 17:35 was actually cropped on the bottom.

I have the Artisan Edition of this, as well as the Brazilian "graphic novel" with the first story, in color. I talked about this recently in a Portuguese livestream, if we should have a collection of American indy classics in Portugal, and I suggested that, if we did, this Rocketeer volume would have to be the first one.

Good Hernandez sleuthing! I hadn’t noticed before but now Steven's style reminds me a lot of Frank Frazetta's old comics work. I hope you won’t hold it against me that my super powers do come from some cosmic crystal…

yes... and there's probably a lot of influence towards younger cartoonists... like Eric Powell or Allred or... I'm just envious because I left my crystals on Ferenginar :P

@@earlgrey862 Sorry Earl, I used Reverso translation but I don't understand. It says "Taschen has actually KK again on sale... this time at 50 Euros". What has Taschen got for sale?

the complete Krazy Kat sundays from Taschen (the book I showed in Pan 444) is now available again for a bargain... just 50 instead of 150 euros on the Taschen-website

Hi Earl Grey. Will you review Vuzz (Druilliet) and the book Elfric, also a work of druilliet? Vuzz needs to be released by titan books. But just letting you know 🙋🏽♂️.
@earlgrey8622 жыл бұрын
Hi, I spoke about Elric by Druillet in panellogy 380... and I'm pretty sure I talk about Vuzz (much too briefly) in one of my other Druillet vids

Sorry for adding a comment which has nothing to do with Dave Stevens whatsoever! You have the most amazingly eclectic taste imaginable, but there are a few artists or writer/artists you never talk about: a few examples: the Mutanten crowd, for instance, Martin tom Dieck and Anke Feuchtenberger, Edmond Baudoin, Fabrice Neaud, David B., Marjane Satrapi, Yoshiharu Tsuge, the Frémok artists (Yvan Alagbé and Dominique Goblet, for instance), etc... Their work doesn't interest you?
@earlgrey8622 жыл бұрын
that's an interesting list, some names are familiar (like Martin tom Dieck and Anke Feuchtenberger... and I have one or two of their books, but 463 videos have not been enough to cover all the stuff on my shelves) ... some are new to me (Mutanten crowd?) ... and some books are either just not for me or my favourite books in the upcoming year - so many comics so little time

Oh, and please don't tell me that David B.'s Epilepsy doesn't interest you. I'm also sure that you would appreciate Aristophane's The Zabîme Sisters and Yvan Alagbé's Yellow Negroes and Other Imaginary Creatures. Other, more exotic, or in French only things, I understand...
