Giotto's Bakery has won some of Italy's top culinary prizes for its artisanal panettone, created through a process that honors centuries of tradition. But those making this sweet bread, a favorite during the holidays, are doing so behind the walls of the Due Palazzi prison, on the outskirts of Padua. Correspondent Seth Doane reports.

We need more programs like this in prisons in the US and in communities where kids can’t imagine their futures, so they don’t commit crimes in the first place.

Do you mean the Homicide person? Like the one's Democrats release every day and crossing our border presently? This is a poor excuse by the Democrats to blame the Victim and not the cites they maintain.

We do have certain programs, like there is a dog training program. Where inmates train dogs that have issues. Then eventually the dog gets rehomed to someone else outside in the real world. There is also some other classes people can take as well besides that one. There is a welding class offered and wood making.

@@kenwoodburn5244 - If no one told you, white collar financial crimes have more impact and for generations. Just ask the victims of any Ponzi scheme and see how that turned out? Wall street commits more crimes by lunch time than the average inmate in any of these prisons. The number one relation that crime has is poverty. So before you judge and make it sound so simple, try volunteering your time with someone who has served time and hear their story.

What are they paying them? Are paying them less then non prisoner workers? Meaning are businesses taking advantage of their cheaper labor?
@queenbee4350
@queenbee4350 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, they don't have the same life expenses as non prisoner workers. The government is providing them with room, board, food, etc while a regular worker would have to pay for stuff like that on their own. Also, they have a debt to repay to society. I don't advocate that they be treated like slaves but I don't think they should get paid the same as a regular worker. Also, is some of the money these prisoners make going to their victims or the victims' families? They are not on a chain gang and they are learning a skill so I do have hope for this program.
