This is why I'm never putting my mom in a nursing home

Oh god. How can anyone call themselves a carer and do that to a defenceless lady ? I'm a HCA on a dementia care unit and my colleagues and myself would never ever do such a evil act.

i was a community carer for many years. These people make me sick. i had such fun with the people i looked after and give me great advice about life. i was just a young lad from Derry in Ireland and it was 1982 in london, i used to look forward to my job, some of the elderly i looked after where so kind to me and i did all i could for them, it was so wonderful to meet people from every walk of life. i did shopping for them and would always tell them the bargins in the shops. the most important thing was to sit and have a wee chat and nice cup of tea, i loved all the storys of there lifes and what london was like for them i did it for 14 years and just had the best time. but it makes me so sad to see these scum hurt our elderly they should be put in jail for much longer. its still just to easy for any one to get a job careing for the elderly, some dont have a real concern or love of the job and should never get near older people. i dispair sometimes to see this kind of thing still going on. but thank god for hidden cctv, such a shame we need it.

Im a carer. Why on earth he keeps hitting her is beyond belief. Yes its a stressful job and you come across difficult residents that will scratch/bite/kick but you still never harm them. This poor woman isnt doing anything to instigate him being like that towards her which is even more disturbing.

I used to work as a care assistant for the elderly and although I loved my job it was sometimes very stressful,but there was NO WAY that I would ever abuse anyone...this is absolutely despicable.. I hope these bastards eventually get what they deserve...British justice is a joke!!!.

I work in a care home, and I will tell you now, the people I work with don;t do this but our quality of care isn't as good as it should be. We simply do not have the time to give the time that we actually want to give. We are permanently short staffed, the management does not care about anything but saving money. We are made to count cutlery so they don;t have to pay for more when it goes missing and do cleaning because they don;t hire enough cleaning staff to keep the place really clean.

A lot of viewers are over reacting. I work in a care home and it doesn't matter if someone prefers a certain gender caring for them, that's an unreasonable and sexist request. If the only available aide/nurse is male would u rather her diaper doesn't get changed and she sits in her filth? Cuz seems that family would complain about that too. And the way he turned her on her side was not unreasonable, she's very large and an average female carer would likely be injured trying to do this. Also, it's lovely if two staff are available but usually not possible.

old and vulnerable individuals are not abuse items these people shock me to why they hurt them iv worked in care 18 years been spat at dragged around by my hair shouted at etc but yet I get up next day and do it all again if I ever came across this abuse it should be delt with the peoples family get them in a room alone give them Wat they gave this poor lady my heart goes out to her WE DONT ASK TO GROW OLD..but we do gracefully we all want comfort,peace safety ... its appalling ...but one day we will be old and frail

Why all British people. They can't taking care?? Their on mother's..why they let's other?? To do their on responsibility...I well never pot my mum. On nursing home...I well take care my mum..the same she's talking care off. Me since I was kid's.I love my mother very much.

The problem is no one wants to work in a retirement home, so you will get some questionable people working there. Race doesn't matter a Filipino or Eastern European are all capable of abusing elderly.

I am a carer I haven't seen anything like this but I'm telling you I know some of them that would do this if they were on their own but I've seen some of them talk to the elderly like their trash fucking pisses me off 😪

Some-one told me that the care worker went to prison because of issues with it's family. I hope this is not true and that the care worker was given a job in another care home and not lose any wages because of it.

This is sickening! I'm a student and I've worked in an elderly care home before and I have never witnessed any of this! It proves that it does go on though :( poor woman.

I'd rather be in prison than be in a residential/nursing home...

i know how it feels when you saw your mom is suffering in pain because my mom died because of cancer and im happy cause till the last breath of my mom i take care of her without any hesitation even i know it will be a big responsibility even im just 16 yrs old at that time... so if im in the position of the family who were been abused they must not always put the blame to jonathan because if they were responsible children they would not give the responsibility to other people

this is woman we're talking about and take note she's OLD.. are you goinna do the same thing to your mother? or do you want your future son/daughter do the same thing to you.. i used to badmouth and talkshiiit my father before when i was a stubborn kid and i regretted it but even though i never hurt him when he was weak & old.. i will never hurt someone with that condition this is heart tearing..

There is NO excuse for this behaviour. This is ABUSE. And people who do this job, the majority I would imagine are caring and do it because of the satisfaction of helping people. If someone does this job with no compassion or care just purely for money than they're not fit to do the job at all. It might well be stressful, but think about the stress the patients have to go through at the hands of carers like these. This man should realise the elderly are humans too - not pets. Disgraceful.

This isn't a tolerated practice at most nursing homes. The caregivers are supposed to have the utmost patience for those they care for and their unique situations.

The only people to blame are the family members who put them in the nursing home> They should take care of their own mother who cared for them as children. That is where the blame belongs!!!!!!!!! Nursing Home workers are overworked and under paid and lose it sometimes. The real blame falls on the family for dumping their mother in a home.

they keep saying that they need to employ higher caliber people and pay what the job deserves. But, even now councils are insisting that vulnerable adults with learning and mental health issues should have less money for there care and support meaning staff will be payed less with less training and less dedication to their well being. it's about time we as a society insist the proper resources are dedicated to the vulnerable. instead of cost cutting..

I hate people saying that we should care for our own. I used to care for my grandmother but after a while it just wasn't possible to do so as I was in danger of losing my home. I have no choice but to work so I can house and feed my 2 small children. It's not that we don't care when we choose to put our family in homes, it's that sometimes we have absolutely no choice. So please keep your ignorant comments to yourself because you absolutely have no idea of the hurt families go through when they have to make that tough decision.

Wherever we go there is always "bad and good people" . It is so sad to see this video bcoz I myself is from Philippines and i am working too in Nursing home in Denmark. I feel not ashamed bcoz first i am not doing like that. Second, people are different no matter we come from.

I think caregivers often make the mistake of thinking that their charges are always going to be kind and grateful and complacent little old people. And when they aren't, they get angry. They don't feel valued by their patients, they don't get paid nearly enough for what they do and endure, and they don't get proper training and support. And this is what happens. There are no excuses for abuse, but there are things society can do to prevent it.

how could you do that to your patient?..you know what we had same job ..i came from a poor family from an island back home to philippines..but when i got this kind of job here in west country i love my patient..i even kissed him in hes forehead before i go to bed..ive prayed for him if hes tired to recite to pray...this is the most rewarding job coz its priceless..i felt sad to that old lady...i wish she can find a loving care giver..(
