Quite a few people have sent messages asking me to list all the gear that I use when I shoot panoramas, as well as listing the names of the specific parts so they can look these up on the internet.
This video goes into detail about the photography gear that I use to shoot panoramas and when and why I use it in certain situation and not in others.
I hope that this video answers all the many question that have been asked and also give viewers an idea on the gear that they need to photograph panoramic images.
Here’s the list of gear that I use for capturing Panoramic images:
1: L Bracket
2: T-Type Bubble Spirit Level
3: SUNWAYFOTO DYH-68 Leveling Base 11kg Load Capacity
4: Neewer 200mm Rail Nodal Slide With Quick Release Clamp
5: Leofoto RH-2L Panning Clamp
6: Panorama Indexing Rotator tripod
Haoge PA-64T or Fotga DH-55D
7: 720 Degree Panoramic Head Max Load Capacity 10kg

I find with Milky Way my 20mm f1.8 on my Z7 is fine to get the core nicely without any extra heads >> I am at the stage of 1 shot only Milky Ways here in S Africa but your fellow Country man Richard Tatti has been a great help and will soon start learning to Stack for lowering Noise

There shold be no need to satck your images with your Z7 and Nikon 20mm f1.8. That combination should give you clean sharp images

Great video. L--bracket for portrait mode, and slider for nodal point are essential for 180 degree pano. But for multi-row pano what would be cheapest option tilting the camera precisely (fixed angle) to maintain the nodal point. Is there any indexing head or rotator could be used
@CharlesNPhotography
@CharlesNPhotography 2 күн бұрын
Q- For multi-row panoramas tilting the camera precisely (fixed angle) to maintain the nodal point. A- The nodal point won't change, but you'll get some distortion the more you tilt the camera upwards You really need a Panoramic Gimbal Tripod Head if you're going to take multi-row panoramas.

@@CharlesNPhotography Thanks but isn't there customs and all kinds of hassles involved with importing? Hard to believe we can't find a single good INDEXING pano head here in the US. That's nuts.

Do you think you could adapt any of these tools to a vertical mode for shooting tall buildings (as a cheaper alternative to a shift Lens)?
@CharlesNPhotography
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Certainly, all you would have to do is use the rotator on the arm instead of the base.

You can even use a Novoflex Classic Ball (2, 3 or 5) and mount it upside down. Then you don't even need this spirit level you mentioned! 😇

Could you please tell me how well the SUNWAYFOTO DYH-68 Leveling Base grips when you put all your gear on top and is there any slack in the tightening ring once it is tightened.
@CharlesNPhotography
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Hi, once the SUNWAYFOTO DYH-68 Leveling Base was level and I'd tightened it, there was no movement. I use two finger to tighten it and it stays tight. Before I bought me new tripod which as a built-in leveling base I used it with my Nikon D500 and Nikon 200-500mm lens for wildlife photography and it stayed in place.

Can I ask you what type of panorama gimbal that is that you use? Did it come with the indexing rotator? Is the Neewer one on Amazon good or is it too flimsy and may introduce error? Thanks for the great videos. I want to try forest panoramas I shoot a canon 5d mark iii, the biggest lens I currently use is the 100-400.

This is the Panorama head that I use. www.ebay.com.au/itm/275299013592 PH-720A Video SLR Camera 720° Panoramic Gimbal yes, I bought it with the rotator. I would be concerned about using the Newer if I was using a heavy dslr or a camera with a heavy lens, this is why I bought the one that I use. or you have to spend many more $$ and get a more expensive unit.

Is there really a significant advantage to having an index rotator head. Seems to me the nodal rail is enough with a little care. Also minimises gear to carry.
@CharlesNPhotography
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Is there really a significant advantage to having an index rotator head! Yes there is, but only if your taking photos at night when it's hard to see the amount of overlap you have between each image. It's also 100% needed if you're taking multi-row panoramas, as this is the only way you can be certain that each image of each row will line in correctly with its matching image on another row.
@edwardkillesteyn1479
@edwardkillesteyn1479 Жыл бұрын
@@CharlesNPhotography Thanks for the prompt response. Much appreciated. I take it then I can use the Neewer nodal rail without any other gear and have good results as long as its not night photography or multi row panels - I like to keep things simple. Best wishes. Ed
