Creating a Panpastel background with a colored pencil portrait on Pastelmat this video tutorial shows you in realtime how to do so. Giving a vibrant bokeh effect this only took me 30 minutes to do & really is very simple.
PanPastel colours used are:
Phthalo blue
Turquoise
Phthalo blue tint
Ultramarine blue tint
Phthalo blue ex dark tint
White

I am working on my very first dog portrait on tan paper. In colored pencil. I've always liked the bokeh effect but never tried it. I really like how you've done this and I can't wait to apply this technique to my own drawing. Where did you get your pastels and your sponge blending tool? Oh, and I just love your hair. 😊

Animal Art by LAW, I also watched your tutorial of the blurred grass background with the adorable Yorkie earlier today. It was also so informative and magical! Love this Lisa! As i have just bought pans to do a black n white background on a swan. Like that it is possible to do the background after as not done the swans yet, so could have been a waste of time and effort. Someone asked about friskit here, but i didn't see you used it, am i wrong? Great portrait of the dog! And love the background too x

The portrait is beautiful but my thought also is that the background colors always should be integrated somewhat into the subject for harmony. Putting in the background at the end doesn't allow for doing this. Love your work, though!

can you tell me what brand frisket you use? I've never used it but seems like a good idea. I work on Uart, pastelmat & Fisher mostly, with pastels.

Hi Lisa,I was just on your page to purchase the Mocha Pup and when i clicked on buy now it came back as a bad page,can you comment on this for me? Also what water color pencils do you use for this pup so I can check to see which ones I have?

Yes but it would take a lot longer to build up enough pigment

This gave me palpitations watching her add the background after a 40hr portrait piece, yikes! When I tried that I ended up with a huge green mass behind a female deer who then looked completely ridiculous..its not as easy as it looks & Lisa makes it seem like 30 mins later yours will look like this haha, be warned 🙂

I’ve read you should never blow the pigment dust in the air as you breathe it in your lungs which is not healthy! Some people even wear a mask to avoid the contamination.
