This time we headed to the Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park. 🌴🌱
The Otamendi nature reserve was an ecological reserve belonging to the National System of Protected Areas of Argentina located in the Campana district, province of Buenos Aires. It was located on the banks of the Paraná de las Palmas River at the height of the Las Colinas de Otamendi neighborhood, 7 km from the city of Campana and 69 km from Buenos Aires.
The lands of the reserve belonged to the engineer Rómulo Otamendi (1852-1934), who worked on the delimitation of the route of the railways in Argentina, for which he received the lands that make up the reserve as a reward. His property was bequeathed and after several administrations in the 1980s it was abandoned. Then the national executive power gave the property to the control of the National Parks Administration.
In December 2017, the Legislature of the province of Buenos Aires sanctioned Law No. 15006, enacted in January 2018, through which it transferred fiscal land to the Nation for the creation of the Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park. This park was formed (when the National Congress sanctioned its creation) with 3,000 hectares of the Otamendi nature reserve, 1,500 hectares of the Río Luján Nature Reserve (provincial) and a sector of islands in the Paraná delta in the Campana district, totaling the entire project 5300 hectares. The new park is home to 309 species of birds and 49 mammals and is located just 60 kilometers northwest of CABA.
