STORY BEHIND THE SONG (from Vinnie Paul): There was a guy in the front row in San Diego who was heckling Phil Anselmo (vocalist). Phil finally had enough, so he incited the crowd to jump this guy's ass and beat the sh*t out of him on the spot, so he sued us. And when his dad called our manager, his exact quote was, "You just give me five minutes alone with that Phil Anselmo guy and I'll show him who's big daddy around here." Phil's response was, "You just give me five minutes with that cat's dad and I'll whoop his ass." That's where that song came from.

The Pantera channel is the official KZfaq home of one of heavy metal’s most influential bands. Pantera debuted their signature sound with ‘Cowboys From Hell’ and invigorated the metal scene with raucous hits “Walk,” “Cemetery Gates,” “5 Minutes Alone,” among many others. With the 1990 release of their album ‘Cowboys From Hell,’ Pantera created “power groove” and made them the heroes to headbangers everywhere. Their following album ‘Vulgar Display of Power’ was certified double platinum and widely acknowledged as one of metal’s most enduring masterworks. For the next decade, Philip Anselmo, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown continued to ascend to the top of the music world with gold and platinum album and home video releases and sold out arena tours. Fun Fact: This song was written about a fan at a particular show that was flipping the band off the whole time to the point Pantera had to stop the show to confront the guy. He ended up being jumped at the show by other fans which led to lawsuits, the dad of the guy reached out to Pantera's managent, and asked "just give me five minutes alone with that Phil Anselmo guy" This is how Phil responded, and the rest is history.. 🍻

In my opinion, that's one of the best riffs on metal history, it gives a great ssensation of aggression and anger, like going to punch somebody (think that stand out on Pantera's discography is very great), and basicly could descrive perfectly the groove of the groove metal. Rest in peace God Darrell, and you too God Vinnie

Great band Dime was an insane player that unfortunately wasn’t fully appreciated until his passing. Feel like Vinnie always played hard and had a groove that was open minded to give his bro pockets of air to flourish. Rex was solid as fuck and Phil sang with fervour, constant compression and pain. Saw Pantera here in San Diego, in November 1992. Won the tickets from a radio station contest. Drank a couple of beer with Dime. Rex is and was a clown, hilarious funny guy. Vinnie was so cool too. My 70-year old mother loved Dime--he was so gentleman and respectful to us. Again, this was at the time, as for Phil, was came off as a dick. He had issues. I love the meaning behind this song and the story that goes along with it. A Father's son was injured in a mosh pit at a Pantera concert the father went on the local news saying "he wishes he could get 5 minutes alone with the lead singer." Not knowing that Phil was 6' 175 lb of raw Texas whip your ass. And this song was written as a response to that father.

Times were hectic... I was there. Racial tension, political unrest, and concerts were a good place to get your fucking head busted. But.....the fucking music was so much better....and the drugs were more pure.

Usually I don't like the beast voice, but the combination of Phil Anselmo and Dimebag Darrel is such a killer combination, and I love it.

Listening and singing along to Pantera makes me feel like I could take on anyone! Pantera and other Metal bands even to this day help me when I need to let out some aggression in a positive and non destructive way.

@@baxtronx5972 guess he wants his 5 minutes alone . . . . OP this is a reaction song to a father whose son was into metal, and he said he'd like 5 minutes alone with Phil Anselmo. He was advised, no , you don't really want that.

I guess if you want to talk about from a sales point of view possibly yes, but remember thats when Grunge was taking off like a pair of Kardashian panties.

All this love for Vinnie, still in 2018 Pantera fans are the perfect example of band/fanbase mutual respect. You guys would make Darryl and Vinnie proud ..as for Phil and Rex, pantera was a package 4 men, I hope they also still feel appreciated. Any other combination of musicians would never have made the Pantera we love. PANTERA ALWAYS brings me back when I'm down...no one else has this effect on me. We can't bring them back, but we have several kick ass albums that never really get old to celebrate.
