this concert took place at the end of the soviet union so people were allowed to go to shows that were previously illegal. So for this show they chose an airfield and over a million people showed up to that show.
@Xenophon It was the same concert."Monsters of Rock" festival that took place in Moschow that year (normally it was held @ Donnington Castle England). AC/DC,Queensryche,Motley Crew and few more bands were also on the lineup.

Phil Anselmos( the vocalist) performance at this show is hard to understand and I've been watching the performance for more then 10 years. Its one of my top 3 favorite performances of all time, but yeah Phil got so caught up in the energy he couldn't hardly articulate the lyrics. I can't fault him for it though, this concert was a historic moment for Eastern Europe.

To be honest, i have been listening to rock music in general since i was like 11 or 12 years old. Still, it took me about 5 years of classic heavy metal before i could get into Pantera. The harsh vocals kept me back from really enjoying the music, but one day i had a revelation and, with lyrics in front of me, started browsing their stuff. Pantera since became one of my favorite bands, i really came to understand their themes and style and truly appreciate how talented they were. Bottom line, give them a chance, they may be hard to understand, but, from a musical perspective, almost all their stuff is just great compositions.

Id suggest for them, print out the lyrics and stick with studio versions. Their live shows are great but the lead singer, Phil Anselmo can be tricky to understand live. Great reaction bro! Keep it up!!

Honestly this is exceptional live metal. Even I only listen to metal or country or rock, rap, what when Im in that mood. This was played to un freed russians who could only get this on underground tapes. Then the current fell. Think about movie sound tracks, there is a tone for every situation. If you get highly motivated you may get this. To me this is the brother of NWA and other hard core rap.

Pantera is one of my favorite bands of all time. "Cowboys from Hell" was a life changing album for me, when I was young. The title track," Cemetary Gates", and Primal "Concrete Sledge" were epic. The later with the release of "Walk" they showed you how HARD three cords repeating could be. Keep up the good work.

I love your honesty man, ive seen lots of reaction channels where people ("hip hop fans") react to stuff and like everything, but i really dont see how they can like some extreme or very complicated sorts of metal. I dont feel they are honest. Im a huge metalhead, i have like 15 concert tickets, including 2 for slayers last tour. A 6 hour drive, and a plane ride to get there. With that said, i first DID NOT like this stuff, i couldnt get into it. You have to ease into it to be able to understand it. You cant just start listening to Reign In Blood or Archspire or Advent Sorrow after youve been listening to pop your whole life. You just cant

EXACTLY. Took me literally years to get into the band Death. Its an ease in process. Its like a metalhead that has never grew up in low income neighborhoods trying to understand Wu Tang's CREAM. Listening to metal is like learning a new language. You hear and understand all of it with time. Ive been listening to it since i was 5 or 6 yrs old (like you said- listening to this most of my life) because of my older cousins being big in the 80s metal scene and playing it around me. I will say, you will get into progressively heavier stuff with time. :) Pantera is one of my favorites, but there is also soooo much more heavier metal out there! Lol.

The thing is with metal is that the lyrics are secondary to the instruments. Even guys that have been listening to metal for a while only know what they are saying is because like you said, we have been listening to it for a while. What metal tries to do is get you pumped up and releases all your anger and frustration in a good way. Not everyone is going to like all types of music and that is okay. But as long as you are having fun then keep on keeping on!
@ibstrummin26 жыл бұрын
all of the parts in the songs (guitar, bass, drums, vocals, ect) are all pre written and arranged. usually the guitar solo is also, but some guitarists have been known to do some ad libbing too... which is part of what makes the live shows so good.

@RowdyGrunt6 жыл бұрын
Bro, I LOVE seeing your reactions because it makes me remember why I love the music that I do; which is metal. Metal is a musical outburst of emotion; be it anger, rage, sadness, even happiness! As for patterns, don't look for them, take a ride with the song, and let the music hype you up, cool you down. With bands like Pantera, it's all about aggression. You have to just go with the intensity of the pace, and catch a breather when they hit the breakdown. Let the music just control the energy that it causes. The guitar, it's an instrument that is versatile and in metal, is used to put the layers on top of the timing of the drums, all supported by the bass player holding down the foundation. Guitarists (myself included) play their rhythm's, then break into leads (solos) which are either patterns (probably the only "patterns" you'll find in metal), and some simply improvise their solos based upon how they feel when it comes time to play the solo. Again, with bands like Pantera, its all about ferocity and power man. Thank you for checking it out and taking a look at what our metal culture is like. It's absolutely influenced to branch out myself, into hip hop and see what I've been missing. Frankly speaking, as a metal guitarist, I'd love to get up with some hip hop heads and see what kind of music could be created. And that's what music is all about.

to be fair he is just screaming those lyrics. the studio version has him singing notes, but in this he is holding none. guitar riffs can go on and in long loops and totally switched up as you see with hiphop but there are no real limits to how structured/unstructured it can be, depends on your tastes, some bands are easier to absorb than others but your ear gets used to more complex riffs if you take the time. try some Iron Maiden live vids, Maiden is always good live. "Fear of the Dark", "Hallowed Be Thy Name" for examples.

@TheFeige5 жыл бұрын
Ill try to explain to you what you’re hearing. It’s in a 4/4 count. And everything your hearing is on rhythm. What you saw there with the fast moving fingers is called a solo. It can be performed on any instrument but usually occurs on guitar. The drums and bass carry the rhythm but the drummer does a lot of what are called fills. That’s when he usually hits stuff in a faster motion but always comes back to the to carry the timing. Some bands have two or more guitars. What you are hearing in that 4/4 are notes/chords/drums being played on 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/32th beat. Metal is a lot of double bass on the drums and distortion on the guitar. Bluegrass and classical music are the most closely associated types of music due to the speed and precision it requires. With a lot rock and roll mixed in. The original form of hip-hop/rap music is blues. Robert Johnson is one of my favorites. He was the original pimp musician.

You got to think of it this way, the words are not directed at you, normally these angry words are directed at the government, or at certain parts of society, or maybe at certain people (like the case with 5 minutes alone). We get together as a group to take out our aggression about these injustices that we see and have a good time too.
@stevenmacintyre59126 жыл бұрын
He's not free styling bro. If you listen to the album it's almost the exact same. Technicality is a big part of metal but the most important thing thing is to have a good hook..a guitar riff with a good drum beat that really grabs you and pumps you up. A rough metal formula is intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, middle break down (on your video the middle breakdown riff is at 12:34) then ending parts. This formula variates of course because the songs would become too predictable but this song follows that formula pretty close.. I think if a GOOD metal musician who's also a rap fan and truly understands rap were to work with a rap musicion, they'd make something special.

Gotta give it you, very humble and honest comments you gave - you exposed your confusion which is what most people are going through in the beginning. A hint - the vocals are not angry at you as a listener, they are supposed to be the angry/confused side of the people releasing their discomfort with whatever is troubling in life. So Phil (the singer) is giving your sad and angry thoughts the outside voice you experience inside.... Probs bro, no music style is bad, mostly just misunderstood
@philthemovieguy816 жыл бұрын
R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell. The man was a real surgeon with his guitar. Some other Pantera songs you could and should listen to is "5 Minutes Alone" "This Love" "Cemetary Gates" "Walk" and "Cowboys From Hell". I never considered them Metal myself. But more Agressive Rock for sure. If you ever wanted a shot of Adrenaline or to cure your anger one day through rock music this is the band to give you your fix.

All the songs you mentioned is their most commercial-sounding stuff. Pantera has plenty of metal songs, best classified as southern groove metal.

You did get it! Because you can't NOT get the heaviest breakdown EVER! Emphasis on the double negative. First time watching your videos. Glad you came around.

Dimebag was one of the greatest guitarist's that ever lived bro. He has some of the most iconic metal riffs out there. It is a tragedy that he is no longer with us.

awesome video to react too! Also in regards to understanding what they are saying or talking about in the songs... for me anyhow... I rarely pay any attention to lyrics in metal or rock until I know I like the songs structure/beat/sound and in general the song as a whole... including vocals, but mainly only consider the vocals as a vessel for melody or percussion. Once I really dig the song... they I try to understand what they are saying! lol

@martyw95046 жыл бұрын
Not sure how to send a link to this chat but if you just search KZfaq for grateful dead Cornell 77 estimated prophet sbd it comes right up it's audio only but sound is amazing
@martyw95046 жыл бұрын
Can someone else who knows how link it here please
@martyw95046 жыл бұрын
I googled how to send link and still can't figure it out anyway there are many great songs from that night Estimated Prophet is just one that was 8:43 long most of the most popular songs from that night are like 25 minutes long but the highlights of that show were Morning Dew, Scarlet Begonies into Fire on the Mountain and St. Stephen into Not Fade Away back into St Stephen but those might be too long for you to do but if you want a bunch of new subscribers this band used to sell out football stadiums and sell out seven straight nights at Madison Square Garden

KZfaq would suffer! For real tho, ive seen people comment that a detector beeping made them not watch a video, it would be a shame. Is a Missed subscriber worth the cost of a battery? Lol (the next youtube hot topic of discussion)

Great reaction it’s great to see a Real reaction for once!! Metal is an acquired taste but can be fun. But the best part of metal is seeing a live show or for any style really. It makes great memories where you might catch a rare performance from your favorite artist.
