John I’m embarrassed to say at the time I would not allow myself to listen to Pantera, I was almost exclusively Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam for heavier stuff Sepultura, Metallica, Corrosion of Conformity etc, I’d dismissed Phil as a racist thug to my ignorance. I’ve sure seen the light since, Vulgar Display and Far Beyond Driven are monsters of albums. Dimebag has incredible groovy riffs and tones amazing. And Phil is a legend and very inspirational in overcoming adversity, brilliant band📀🎸🥁🍺💉💊

This is another historic time capsule pick and conversion. At the time of this release there was no way to hear music like this on the radio or see their vids on TV in the US. Except for misc college radio (89.5 in NY/NJ) and headbangers ball. The album ended up debuting at #1 on billboard and staying in the top 10 for most of the year at the height of the grunge invasion.

."..for those of you that don't have a c.d. player and for those of you popping in a a tape- what does this mean- what is a C.D. and would someone popping in a tape?" Oh... back in the 90's I couldn't have imagined a place I could look at all the music and interviews from bands I love in one place for free- and yet, I do miss the days of popping in a tape and the now death of the mighty compact disc! So strange to hear these words, like I went back in time!

Lol the MTV and radio people would always ask the dumbest questions. Pantera was always a band that did their own thing and created their own reputation through their amazing live shows and killer albums, they never wrote songs to get radio play and that's why they were so good. They were probably the only band that could pull off having a number 1 album without a single song being played on the radio.

Anybody happen to know what song is playing in the background at about 9:00 when Ricky goes back to himself in NY? It sounds absolutely killer, but I have no idea who it is. On another (more related) subject: Far Beyond Driven is one of my top ten favorite records of all time from any band. So many songs stand out as some of my all time favorite songs; especially Strength Beyond Strength, Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Hard Lines Sunken Cheeks, Slaughtered, Shedding Skin, and Use My Third Arm. So basically almost every tune on that record LOL. Each song is completely different and unique. Although it's unmistakably Pantera, not a single song on this record is anything like the one before it. In addition, although all of Pantera's records will continue to stand the test of time, I do firmly agree with most everyone when I say that between Vulgar and Far Beyond Driven, those two albums truly displayed Pantera at their most sharpest, tightest, and most ferocious. That's not to say that CFH, Trendkill, Steel, or even Power Metal aren't amazing records; we all know they are. Pantera changed the game, and their legacy will live forever. RIP TO THE ABBOTT BROTHERS. FOREVER STRONGER THAN ALL. CFH FOREVER.
