No offense, but they didn't "fix" anything and nobody complained bout Driven or Trendkill. The fans are the ones who wanted Pantera to get heavier and heavier, and they got what they wanted, which was proven when Driven went to #1 on the Billboard. If Pantera never broke up and Dime was still alive, they would've just gotten heavier and heavier.

I think it also depends on someone's mood on any given day. I'm a longtime metalhead and it's by far my favorite genre of music, but some days I just don't want the really heavy stuff. Today you might love something and tomorrow it might turn you off. But I really don't hear a difference with this Pantera album compared to the last two that you listened to and didn't like. Hope you continue to keep it honest.

I TOTALLY AGREE. MY FAVORITE ALBUM PERIOD. This is my one desert island LP. Love the 2 non album tracks also Immortally Insane and Avoid The Light. I actually think the era was the band's prime. IMMORTALLY INSANE & AVOID THE LIGHT. people always mention how RTS does not have a "mellow" tune like Cemetery Gates or Floods. Technically that is true, but the did record a song it just didn't fit on STEEL. Check out AVOID THE LIGHT. It's like Cemetery Gates in song structure with a more modern "floods" type of vocal.

TOOL - True legends of rock/metal. It would be a shame not to do a Tool marathon! Song check: Ticks and Leaches GOJIRA - This group is as big as they come, massive songs! Song check: The Heaviest Matter of the Universe. Devin Townsend Project - His albums are a bit scattered, but the biggest vocal in metal imo. Song check: Kingdom Soilwork - amazing instrumentation and vocal! Song check: Stabbing the Drama Demon Hunter - Very melodic metal mixed in with some heavy. Song check: Not Ready to Die Volumes - Going into your hip hop background, I think you would like this act. Two vocals, rapping but with screams on metal infused hip hop beats. Song check: Wave Control As I Lay Dying - The original kings of metalcore, some of the best production of any metal album out there! Song check: The Sound of Truth Between the Buried and me - Some of the original work I don't know if you would like, but their last 4 or 5 albums are unlike anything you've listened to yet. Massive songs, probably averaging 8 minutes a song at least! Song check: Selkies: The endless obsession Mushroomhead - Much like Slipknot, very theatrical music. Song check: Qwerty Periphery - Top of the line talent, easily one of the most technical bands on the market! Song check: Make Total Destroy Stone Sour - The Slipknot singers original band! Their first albums were devildriver like, but they've become much more rock over the years. Song check: Get Inside Textures - My all time favorite progressive metal act. Amazing vocal work, even more amazing instrumentation! Song check: Laments of an Icarus I hope you'll take the time to spotify some of these selections! Lets keep it goin'!!!

Phil, Vinnie, Dime, and Rex despite what people want to believe openly discussed, planned and followed through on writing GROOVIER songs after Trendkill & FBD. Love all Pantera albums but STEEL is by far my favorite. ANYONE SEE them live on the RTS tour?? It was killer. Their is a reason they played 4 or 5 (half the album) songs per night on that tour. THEY WERE EXTREMELY CONFIDENT IN THIS RECORD. Dimebag's best riffs of his career (best solos are on TGSTK IMO).

Did you not like Reinventing The Steel?
@darthos7706 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough no. Obviously I'm not saying it's bad in any way, but it never really caught me. The Great Southern Trendkill was by far my favorite album personally
@integrity1016 жыл бұрын
Steel is my favorite album by them by FAR. Saw the tour the Reinventing songs came across great live, especially I'll Cast A Shadow. I can really notice the Black Sabbath influence on this album also (they did 3 tours with Black Sabbath in 98 and 1999). I hated Steel at first. I thought it was so generic sounding and boring. Honestly not only is it my favorite album (it's my 1 desert island LP, no joke). It's my wifes favorite album and 2 of my buddies. It's kinda like a modern Vulgar to me. The biggest change is probably Phil's vocals. He really went back to the early Pantera days with vocal melodies (Phil uses his singing voice on at least some parts of 8 of the 10 songs). It appeals more to the Vulgar fan than the Trendkill fan. Becoming is one of Pantera's live staples (song never left the setlist). I look at a song like BECOMING and you can see how they sort of used it as a template for the songs on Steel. Rex Brown stated in his book that all 4 members of the band picked out their 5 favorite songs from the previous Pantera albums and they talked and dissected what worked and what didn't. Steel is such a focused album I love it. It's criminally underrated. Listen to Becoming, than listen to I'll Cast A Shadow. I'll Cast A Shadow is kinda like a modern Becoming with a Domination like outro. I urge you to check out the album again. Phil Anselmo to this day says it's his favorite Pantera Record (18 years later I don't think he's BSing at this point ya know?)and the other 3 guys are on record saying If Steel isn't their best record it's at least their 2nd best. Everyone has their opinions (I get y you love trendkill, the intensity, the variety, maybe dimes best solos) my point is more that RTS represents Pantera firing on all cylinders. Revolution Is My Name = modern mouth for war Goddamn Electric = modern I'm Broken I'll Cast A Shadow = modern becoming Check RTS out again, It may grow on you. I hope ya enjoy it. Like i said I hated it at first. Thanks for replying it's fun talking musical opinions and getting different peoples perspectives on bands/albums
