Lubricity… I like that. Looks like a great, comprehensive line. I didn’t know that clay was too abrasive for these applications.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Polishing a coating isn't recommended, as you would damage and strip the coating. Mechanical abrasion and friction will remove the coating. Chemical decon steps are always preferred on coated cars. I would recommend the following steps: 1) Wash the car with a decon shampoo like CarPro Descale. It's slightly acidic pH will help remove minerals and water spots. 2) Rinse it, then use a tar remover if you have tar deposits. 3) Rinse it, then use an iron remover to remove brake dust and industrial fallout. 4) Rinse and dry the vehicle. 5) Then use the water spot remover, which will also help to remove any minerals left on the coating that perhaps are masking its properties. Rinse, and wash the car again. The coating's properties should be restored at this point, assuming the coating is in good shape and was applied properly and is still within its claimed durability. Also, clay bars are abrasive by nature, and again, not recommended on coatings as you would damage the coating and potentially add some marring to the paint. If maintained properly, you shouldn't have much embedded contamination. In some rare cases where you might find some contamination left after all the chemical decon steps, like a bit of grit in the clear coat, you could use a synthetic clay towel (that uses a different clay media compared to traditional clay bars) and lots of clay lube, in order to lightly clay the surface. A clay towel like this one: bit.ly/43nrfce Or this one: bit.ly/43y0Mss But test on an inconspicuous area first!

One video can take 10-15 hours to produce, and I often film twice as I restart everything in French. Nobody else does this in the detailing world on KZfaq. And since I started my channel, I have never skipped a single week of uploads. Iron man medal someone please? :)

Thanks Josh. Yeah using chemical decon is actually recommended to help remove brake dust, embedded contamination, or things like water spots or tar deposits that can mask the coating's properties. Hello again to the hardest working detailer on KZfaq! I'm a novice compared to you, but I'm wondering whether your washing regimen, and that of most of the KZfaq detailer folks, might be a bit excessive, at least for coated cars. Let me know what you think if you can. I bought a brand new car this year with black paint which came with a synthetic sealant. I wanted a ceramic coat, but would have to strip the sealant, so after a great deal of research I decided to just apply the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Graphene spray 2-3x per year since it gives ceramic properties and can be layered on top of other coatings or itself. I applied it after a car wash in mid-April, it's now early June, and I haven't done a proper contact wash or been back to the car wash since! While I don't drive a lot and it doesn't rain much here, I park outside and Calgary is very dusty, so the car gets covered in dust in under a week, yet a pump sprayer pre-soak followed by a waterless wash is all I've needed since mid-April. I do 1-2 washes per week (~30min each time), it's still easy to clean, and hasn't lost its hydrophobic properties! Also I just use tap water and CarPro ECH2O and air dry, and even if I use the very hard water at my parents place I never get water spots. I just don't wash in direct sunlight or else the chemical leaves minor streaks. I'm not sure if my results are due to my chemicals, my wash frequency, or just dumb luck (maybe I'll have problems once I drive through some mud puddles), but so far I'm not seeing any reason I'd need to use foam cannons, pressure washers, the car wash, or even a sponge and bucket until the winter road salt returns.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
The Turtle Wax Graphene Flex Wax is very good, and on its own, I typically see 9-10 months durability in our harsh conditions. Some viewers in gentle climates have reported 10-12 months. So yes it's a very good paint protectant, especially for such a low price. But you still need to reapply more often than a full blown ceramic or graphene coating in a glass bottle. Those typically last 2+ years, many new offerings are now 3-5 years+. They offer even more performance compared to spray products. True coatings have better self-cleaning properties, better hydrophobics, more gloss and slickness, more chemical resistance, etc. But they cost more, and take more prep and time to apply. So it all boils down to your personal preference, experience level and budget. There's nothing wrong with a spray alternative, as long as you stay on top of reapplying when needed.

Great looking results as Gtechnique makes strong products. The new EVO looks really glossy and slick which should make a lot of people happy. For those worried about the drying aid just use the drying aid when the vehicle is wet and dry. Then reapply the topper when the paint is dry. Sadly I just ran out of their bug remover as the product always worked. I do have a idea for future videos as the use of a primer polish before applying a ceramic coating has been going through my head a lot. Then again this could be a rabbit hole too. Thank you for another educational video full of tips and tricks!

Thanks Neil. I think you meant EXO right? EVO is in the Gyeon line of coatings. ;) For primer polishes, there is still much debate on that. Some like using them, some prefer to just IPA wipe, and then apply the coating. However, having visited Dr Beasley's headquarters recently, and having talked with Jim, owner and chemist, he had an interesting take on his primer polishes and his explanation made total sense. I have been testing the NSP line and I'm quite please so far! Here's that interview: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f96RlrCjq6usmac.html

@@PanTheOrganizer your correct Pan on EXO. I must have been thinking about eating tacos! I ann still ignorant on the bindings of the ceramic to the paint. I can see the primer polish filling in the crevices of the paint which then gives the coating a better grasp. I know when I am over my head and this is one of those moments. The Dr. Beasleys video got my attention along with Miranda’s videos about the polish too. Thank you for thinking about this.

Hi Pan: I watch your videos regularly to learn auto detailing as DIYer. Question for you: Is a ceramic coating that is more than 5 years old be refreshed / decontaminated / reapplied best done indoors or by mobile service? If mobile, can quality results be achieved in only 5 or 6 hours? What price range should I expect to pay for this job? I'm in California. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi PAN, love all of the videos, tips and tricks!! Is there a difference between C2V3 and the Gtechniq QD or at least distinct use cases for each? I have both but really don't see the use for the QD if C2V3 is recommended as a drying aid, top coat, and potentially stand alone product. @@jacobheinz8236I put a DIY detail ceramic coating on my car a few months ago. It is a multi year coating. I just wash my car every two weeks and every other wash I use their ceramic gloss. I'm barely halfway through the $14 bottle of ceramic gloss after almost 4 months and it's an SUV. I just use it to add gloss to the car really. Couple sprays per panel on a wet car after washing and dry. Costs me a couple dollars a month. For most people you coat your car so you DONT have to do this stuff. I think it's just fun for people to add tons of products. Maybe once a year I decontaminate a coated car and it's also just for looks.

Hey Pan! Great video! Watched a few minutes and saved to finish it later! Question... My wife's SUV was ceramic coated with a 4 year from Ceramic Pro. It also has PPF on the whole frontend. I wash both of our cars on a weekly basis (even in the winter) and after 13 months, the frontend and trunk seems like the water sticks and there is zero hydrophobic properties. I have been washing it with Optimum No Rinse and every so often Mr. Pink from CMG. Yesterday I finally washed it with CarPro Reset, it helped the lower panels a bit, but, the frontend and trunk are still clinging on to the water, as if there was zero protection. Was I too naive to think that washing weekly would extend the need for a decon on the ceramic coating? I have IronX on the way, to see if that will help before paying the detailer to do their maintenance wash, which I believe is the same (or almost) process as I am doing. And, something tells me I should have gone with a different company for the coating lol...

Exactly. Better safe and go through the motions. A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h82frNV0kpunfZc.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers: Mercedes S 580: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNePp8mU3Njdhn0.htmlsi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Aston Martin Vantage: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbGXlJaqv7y4oaM.html Volvo XC60: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtx0daWW0869dnU.html Tesla Model Y: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndWYntZp3baZfo0.html Porsche 911 Carrera: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMmbnMynx6zVo2g.html Mercedes AMG GT63S matte black: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7torcpi0b7aiI0.htmlsi=oGxoCp8PWt7gTncV Audi Q7: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qp14dqWEu9TNqoE.html BMW M6 Gran Coupe: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtJzbNiqsL7XaIU.html BMW M340i: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9qIm61_xqyUdXk.html Audi RS3: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bJphoKR7y7GofIE.html Golf R: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNhhbMpltb2uo58.html

Iron fallout removers do one thing: remove iron particles. To do their job best, they need to focus on that task. So pre-cleaning the vehicle is a must in my opinion. That way, the iron remover doesn't have to fight through other dirt and grime before getting to iron particles, that can potentially also be masked by dirt sitting on top. So wash your car, then use chemical decon. Same applies to water spot removers, tar removers, etc.

Hey Pan, once you do the GTechniq 8-step maintenance wash on the car, can you simply do a minor wash in-between the 8-step maintenance wash? And what steps would you recommend for the minor in-between wash?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Ай бұрын
Yes this maintenance wash you'd do once every 2-3 months. For regular weekly washes, all you need is a pH neutral car shampoo. See how I wash my car weekly here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpadptSW1OCocok.htmlsi=vqU6arE6N17anBFM

I think this is probably the 12th or so video of your's that I've watched but I'm making sure I do my research here because we're taking my wife's new car to a local professional to get a correction and ceramic coating done (Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra/EXO). Here is what I'm planning to get and use in the following order so let me know if anything is wrong or should be done differently or in a different order All done under our pop up canopy (which I've done for years) so no direct sun and no direct Alabama heat. - Wash the wheels and tires with Gtechniq W4 (is this sufficient for tires or do I NEED something like Carpro Retyre?) - Foam the car with W4 and power wash clean - 3 bucket the W3 ceramic wash (I have the buckets and Carpro's wool mitt already) - Spray Gtechniq W6 iron remover and wash (I don't have this yet. Just finished up a bottle of Adam's iron remover though so I know the stuff is essential) - Spray Gyeon Wet Coat (already have as I mentioned on your Wet Coat video) and rinse off - Blower dry the car (optional?) - Apply Gyeon Cure or Shine Supply Clutch (already have both and I believe they both do the same thing) drying the car with microfiber rags in the process - Apply 1 or 2 coats of T2 tire gel Applying Cure/Clutch spray is the only part I'm not really 100% sure on. I own both of them and would like to use them but if I'm already using Gyeon wet coat, are they actually needed or is it just more protection I'm adding? Thanks for all your informative videos though. Definitely helping keep me out of this rabbit hole.

I would use a tire cleaner like CarPro Retyre for the tires for sure. As far as the rest of your wash procedure is concerned, I'm assuming this will be your MAINTENANCE wash right? AFTER the coating was applied. (Wait 2 weeks after a coating is applied before you start washing your car again). Because if this is the wash you want to perform before a coating is applied, I would say no, as you wouldn't use a shampoo with ceramic protection in it, or sealants like WetCoat, etc. But yes if this will be your maintenance wash procedure that is fine. Good choice on getting a better iron remover, as the Adam's is below average. Once you are done applying the WetCoat, ideally yes you would blow dry the car if you have a blower, it's the fastest way and also 100% contactless drying so zero chances of marring the paint. And after that, you go over the paint a final time with a microfiber towel and your choice of detail spray or silica spray sealant to pick up any residual water droplets (there always are) and boost the existing protection, and gloss/slickness. Or, after having dried the vehicle, if you're satisfied with the finish, no need to add the final spray. WetCoat does the job of protection.

@@PanTheOrganizer Yep this will be the proposed maintenance wash. Whatever coating is on there next week when we drop it off at the detailed will get removed as they do clay, 1~2 stages of machine correction depending on the condition then a machine polishing and whatever other prep is needed before ceramic. They also keep the car 24~36 hours so the ceramic can cure in their cold/clean room. Not sure how all that works but all 3 major detailers have a cold clean room with UV lamps and air purifiers for ceramics.

Hey, Pan. I have been watching your videos since Feb of this year and a recent subscriber. You have helped me keep my cars looking new! Thank you so much! I have been using the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions line with great results. However, I haven't found any videos in regards to caring for chrome. I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. For chrome, there isn't anything special to do, assuming it's in good condition. You can typically apply the same paint protection on chrome as well. Chrome plating shouldn't oxidize or rust. It can rust when damaged in an accident for example, or start to be dull over the years. You can use a chrome polish at that point, to help restore it.

Thank you! Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZfaq as we surpassed 895,000 subscribers and we have over 116 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. Congrats on getting your new 4Runner! However, a new car is never new until it's properly detailed. I explain all of this in this popular video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h82frNV0kpunfZc.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car from two of my customers: Tesla Model Y: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndWYntZp3baZfo0.html Porsche 911 Carrera: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMmbnMynx6zVo2g.html Audi Q7: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qp14dqWEu9TNqoE.html

Great video. Perfect timing. I have a to a maint wash on a ceramic coated white truck that has rust spots likely from the brake pads. Sounds like iron remover will remove them?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan. The rust spots are most likely brake dust (ferrous particles) that embedded themselves into the clear coat, oxidized/rusted and hence why you see those. Yes an iron remover is meant to help dissolve those. You would proceed exactly as per this tutorial. Depending on how bad they are, a second round of iron remover might be necessary. Wash the car, rinse it, apply the iron remover, let it dwell for the recommended amount of time (don't let it dry on the surface, and don't apply in direct sunlight) then rinse and dry the paint. Look at the results. If there are still specs left, reapply the iron remover on dry paint this time, and gently work it in with a microfiber towel, and rinse. That should do it.

Im sure this has been answered before but do you rinse off snow foam before contact wash or do you leave snow foam on the car to lubricate contact wash?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Ай бұрын
Always rinse the snow foam before the contact wash. After you did the initial foam and rinse, you have the option to re-foam and hand wash, for even more lubrication, or go directly to the contact wash. The purpose of the initial foam and rinse, is to get rid of 80-85% of the loose dirt and grit. That way you minimize the dirt left for the contact wash, and also minimize the chances of swirls and scratches.

This is really interesting. Since my coating I’m not getting any foam or dwell time on the car. It’s like it repels the foam! It’s the same canon you’re using and foam with same dilution I have used countless times before. But as soon as it hits the car, it looks like it’s already been on for a minute or two. The only thing I’ve done differently last wash was to apply Wet Coat. Could that be the problem??
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It's not really a problem if your coating is super hydrophobic and repels stuff, hehe. It's actually a good thing. Also, I don't know what snow foam you are using, and what coating you have. Many variables can influence how runny or "clingy/thick" a snow foam is. Not all snow foams have the same characteristics. Also, do you work outdoors or indoors? I have a much longer dwell time indoors, compared to outdoors that's for sure. Wind and the sun greatly reduce dwell time. You don't want to let the snow foam dry on the surface.
@Sharma72

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the info. I’ve been using ValetPro PH Neutral snow foam which is not the ‘foamiest’ but works for me as my car is never that dirty. The coating is CSL and two coats of EXO V5. I always follow a wash with Wet Coat and final wipe with Cure. That probably explains the lack of foam! Washed outside in a shady protected area. Interestingly, I ‘lightly’ hand polished with CarPro Reflect last time and it has completely brought back the lustre and shine while still remaining very hydrophobic. I think these spray on / top up coatings are great but they do gradually seem to mask some of the depth and shine of the paint.

Sometimes I wonder is it really worth putting a coating when you have to maintenance the coating after. Might be about the same work to put some easy to apply wax or seal the car every once in a while when you wash your car.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
I'd much rather have a multi-year coating, to maintain with a spray product every few months, than have to do a monthly or bi-monthly reapplication of a wax, or apply a sealant by hand every 4 to 6 months. Also, coatings have much greater chemical resistance, offer much higher self-cleaning properties, and insane hydrophobics, among other qualities. But it really depends on your personal taste. Some people love to reapply a wax by hand every month, as it's a soothing experience for them. I totally get that. To each their own. As long as people take care of their car, I'm all for it. :)
