Smell is caused by bacteria and usually because people wash too often at low temperatures. As a result, soap residues do not always dissolve properly. Coke wash at 90 degrees Celsius is necessary to dissolve impurities in the machine. Once every two weeks. Washing at low temperatures is good - but has many drawbacks.

Always remember to add the absolute hottest water cycle you can twice every couple of months even turn your Hot water heater up on hottest a couple of days in advance because the hot water melts all the soap residue and garbage in the pipes and in the tub and that's really what's needed to clean it out

Chris D When I pour the vinegar into the dispenser it all runs down into the washing machine. Will this work just as well if I pour it inside the washing machine? Also are the essential oils really necessary? I have an allergy to fragrances.

@@chris93703 Sometimes when you put too much liquid in the dispenser it drains it into the tub because of the gravity.. Every time the machine starts it does a drain so just start the cycle and once it's washing just pour alot in and it will go right into the tub

Adding fun guy? I am the fun guy. Also for anybody who speaks 'traditional' English, baking soda is called "bicarbonate of soda" (basically transliterated the same from French). "White vinegar" is "spirit vinegar" or "distilled (white) vinegar" in the US. I hope this translation helps any of my non-Canadian speaking friends.

Add a cup of vinegar to your wash to eliminate odours from clothes, like those worn at the gym. Keeps your front-loader smelling good. It also softens the clothes, no need for fabric softener. Keep your front-loader door slightly open once you're done washing, prevents the odours from forming inside.

I have that same LG washer you have. When you pulled back the the rubber seal there is a small round hole in it that likes to block up. That hole is to drain back water into the outer tub. When it blocks dirty water sits the seal area - and will smell of course. I use a round bristle tubing brush to clear that. Harbor freight or big box stores sell them to clean spray guns.

Thank you Pan. Love your content. My Samsung frontload doesnt have a filter compartment in the front. Probably in the rear but Im afraid to try and pull the unit out of the small space it is in. :( I also notice a lot of mold in the upper part of the detergent holder cabinet. If you pull the tray all the way out you will see where the mold accumulates. I do use a scrub brush with a vinegar solution to get but its difficult. Leaving the door open and wiping down after each wash is a must. Has helped eliminate mold on the rubber gasket.

Like he showed, leave the door open afterwards. Totally prevents mould/odours. I also stuff a kitchen towel into the door rubber at the bottom (with half the towel sticking out). This draws up moisture which then evaporates. Also, put soda crystals in with the detergent to help reduce limescale build-up. My AEG front loader is 25 years old and still going strong.

I’ve been using front loaders for 20 years without odor issue. All that’s necessary is to not keep the front door closed. Most models come with a built in cam to keep the door cracked open a few inches unless you physically close it. Not only do they clean better and have many more load options but they use FAR less water and electricity.

Couple of other important things to check- the outlet pipe, make sure there is a straight 2 or 3 degrees tilt towards the drain as crud will collectin the outletpipe. I flush my outlet pipe out once a month, lastly, I've back fed my machine with a garden hose draining all the gunk out through the small washing machine drain pipe at the front as shown, its crazy how much crap came out, I also rotate the drum at the same time. I use a Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablet as this has strong ingredients and degreasers to break down biological muck from inside the drum on drum clean mode (90 degrees Celsius). Comes out crisp and clean every time 👌

In case you ever see this comment - can you tell me how you do that- back feed your washer with a garden hose. What do you attach the hose to? Sorry if it’s a silly question, but I googled and I’m not seeing anything that sounds like what you describe.

@@foursixquebec disconnect the outlet/drain hose, and put a garden hose into the drain/ outlet. Then, at the front of the machine there is an emergency drain with a small pipe and a cover to access the pump. Fit another hose to the small pipe at the front and run the hose out of the door into the garden or somewhere outside. Turn on the tap and watch the water flow through the outlet and through the machine and out of the small emergency drain.

A word of caution, vinegar is caustic. Use it only occasionally. Same with baking soda. They will deteriorate your rubber seals and other non-metal parts inside the washer. So using them for regular clothes washing is not recommended.

I think I’ll stick to my top loader machine. I leave the lid open always when done with a wash. I use the machine cleaning tablets 1-2 times a month (we wash everyday). Maintaining that rubber gasket is not for me. I keep my machine cleaned and I do wash my towels and bedding in hot water. I also use the least amount of HE liquid detergent to wash clothes. And I never ever use liquid fabric softener.

Great video. One recommendation. After pulling the detergent drawer out and cleaning it, and before putting it back, I use a microfiber towel to clean and sanitize the detergent drawer cavity.

Pan - a quick question for you please! For the 50/50 washing machine maintenance cleaning mix, is it 1 cup of dishwashing liquid & 1 cup vinegar? I assume there must be a best amount because the specific quantity of 10 essential oil drops.
@sonia15702
@sonia15702 Жыл бұрын
The vinegar is enough. My washer broke and the guy who came out here in Australia said a hot water cycle once a month with vinegar on a empty cycle . It cuts through the pipes from scum if you use softener. He recommended not, and my family doesn't as it stops the absorbance in towels. Also you only need half the scoop of powder or half the liquid which they say on the box or liquid bottle. I like t tree or eucalyptus for anti bacterial effect

I would suggest one minor tweak to your formula. Swap out the vinegar for citric acid. If your washer has limescale in it and your cleaning process does not remove all of it, that vinegar smell will linger for quite some time. Citric acid is nearly orderless and will not leave any lingering odors. This is especially true if you are cleaning things like coffee makers, dishwashers, tankless water heaters, etc. Keep up the good work Pan!

I wonder if you could extend the life of the rubber gaskets with some type of rubber protectant? Also I was wondering if you have a vapor steamer to steam behind the rubber gaskets and other nooks and crannies to kill any trapped odors and loosen any debris?

Yes , 303 Protectant , clean them first before applying . It comes in a liquid and also wipes .

Gasket is made or EPDM rubber and should last the life of the machine . They go discoloured and smell through poor machine maintenance and low temperature washing without biological detergent or continuing using fast or rapid cycles .

Ive done all the things you have mentioned but I have been intermittently getting still very foul odor smells like sewage. Whenever I do the washer cleaning tabs the smell is typically gone for 1 week to 2 weeks and comes back right away. Aside from disassembling it I dont know what else to do.

My reply is late, but are you still having the issue? If so, I was going to suggest contacting your county/district utility company. In the past, I've smelled sulphur in my shower and there wound up being a clog in our water line. The utility company came out and unclogged it and the smell went away.

Found the old version of this video, and it inspired me to clean my washing machine which has had an iffy kind of smell to it.. The commercially awailable washing machine cleaning solutuons here in Norway never did a damn bit of good But even without any lavender or tea-tree oil i could not semse any iffy smell when I had run tjroug the teo cycles at 90'c The dispener drawer was a nasty thing, a thogh as nauls yellow/brownish residue had built up, i (wrongly) thought that id was dammage from the washing powdee, but after watching the old video realised that it was residue, i siaked the affected parts n white winegar and a bit of hot water.. and now the dispenser drawer is clean enogh to eat my dinner from 😂 Thanks Pan, you are truly inspirational🙂

I’ve had my machine for 7 years. Never knew about any of this. I would just clean the tray and wipe the rubber seal. The other day i noticed a bad smell and a washing load did not smell fresh. @@PanTheOrganizer It was by accident. I just bought a front load washing machine a few months ago. The instruction was to clean the filter every two months but have never done it since I bought it. I wipe the washing machine door and the rubber ring after each use. I just do it on my own. It's just too bad that the instruction on the manual was very limited and no illustrations either. I was thankful that I found you because your video answered the questions I had in mind. The cleaning solution you suggested to use is environmentally friendly and economical as well. Thank you.

Thank you! Don't forget to clean the space that holds the detergent tray! I just looked at mine and it was full of mildew and some kind of biofilm. My landlord replaced my old top-load with a brand new front-load and I absolutely hate it, but this video will help me learn to cope with the change. I've never had such disgusting issues with a top-loader washing machine. Now, I think I'll run bleach through the new washer every week.
