My favorite game of all time, emulated it to see the hype, and promptly bought a Saturn, Japanese version of it; Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG, and a Satiator to play the english version. Interestingly, and poetically given it's development, it has a very similar theme to FF7, but where FF7 is anti human and cynical. This uses that same theme to tell a story of hope and human potential to become better. Such a beautiful work

It almost looks like a proto version of Skies of Arcadia.

This game is so good. Sadly most people can't play it, unless they emulate it. I hear they lost the source code, so Sega can't make remasters of this. This has got so expensive now because of it's low print run, if people want to get it physical. I was lucky to buy this game over 20 years ago for $150+ USD. Anyway, good review!

I finished it fairly recently and enjoyed it but I appreciate your review for having such a honest take on it. I think I personally appreciate it almost as like a interactive art piece with cool music, awesome set pieces, and a mysterious world that you never fully understand. As a game you actually play, it definitely has a variety of flaws and the pacing really started to drag around disc 2 for me. I'm still happy I beat the game but it was really getting on my nerves at certain sections.

I had this game not once, but twice, bought in a Sega Saturn ebay lot with the console. Each time I sold it again for like $200-250. Oh, how I wish I had held on to them. But then again, better they find their way into hand of collector's who'll appreciate them rather then sitting in my dresser drawer for year after year..

Good review, and i respect your opinion as you've played a lot of jrpg's of the time, so you're able to provide a balanced view. However, there are some key points missed in your review, things like the language which is fictional Panzerese (greek, latin and russian mash up), although there is still japanese throughout the game. You mention Edge as the main character and how he's unassuming and kind of forgettable. For me, that's the point of him, Edge is helping the real main character, the Dragon. Comparisons to FF7 are always made, but they are so different. I have to admit, I've tried to play through FF7 twice now, but i just find it so easy to get bored, faffing about in a parade or something. FF7 just isn't my kind of game but im not a big rpg guy, i didn't really like breath of the Wild, much prefer links awakening so that tells you I'm not a big rpg guy, i just get board doing faffy tasks, just feels like padding out a game. Saga didn't give me that. Every time i played, I'd progress the story, like reading a good book, i guess 😃. Although i don't agree with all of your review, i appreciate you taking it on. Keep up the good work 👍. I must try some of the other Saturn rpg's.

You know, there's another game about dragons on the Sega Saturn that get's a lot less love than the Panzer Dragoon Series, and that game is... Blazing Dragons! If you like point and click adventures, it's actually a very good one.

This game is impressive compared to what the ps1 was doing at the time. I like how people always say there weren't many fully 3d environments in games like this at the time and totally foget that zelda ocarina of time also came out on the n64 in 1998 and looked 1000 times better, which is another main reason why the sega saturn and this game couldn't compete.

Brilliant review. I completed this game back in the day. I'd be inclined to agree with you, its a good game but not spectacular. My father threw the game in a skip when he was having a clearout years ago... quite an expensive mistake!

I have the "demo" disc, aka the first disc, played it a little, and stopped because I cant complete it if i liked it...

This game isnt anywhere close to Ocarina of Time or FF7.

I think you should rename your channel "I hate everything that's not Final Fantasy VII" because that's how you reviewed this game. I can't believe you call Panzer Dragoon Saga repetitive next to your beloved Final Fantasy VII, which is so much more repetitive beyond tedium.

FF is Weeaboo crap. Some games are better when they keep a certain mystique about them, instead of constantly beating the player over the head with Spikey Hair and lame Anime tropes.

I've seen people try to call this the Saturn's equivalent of FFVII, but I just don't see it.
