Today we'll look at making some simple earthy effects using only one enamel product and two pigments. By layering these products on, we can make some nice textures and different effects to simulate dried mud, dust, and fresh-looking muddy effects.

DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

Excellent video, really appreciated you showing the weathering and explaining the technique behind it. Liked the Wilder Dark Street Effect, I can find plenty of uses for that! However you use them, the beauty of pastels is their versatility - everyone should constantly be experimenting, it will add variety to your models.

Yeah, there are many options, but the differences between brands are not very big. I'd just recommend you avoid Vallejo pigments as they don't have good colours and don't seem to stick as well.

Panzermeister36 thank you for your reply. Yes i noticed vallejo does not have a large selection of colors, etc. News to me on not sticking? I guess there are enamel, & acrylic pigments? Some require a fixing solution? Much to check on, thanks.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
Well I mean that pigments will stick to a matte finished surface fairly well due to friction and static effects, and then you can apply fixer afterward to bind them on better. I find that Vallejo pigments are hard to get to stick in the first place, before you would apply fixer to glue them down.

Hi Panzer 36 ! Excellent work as always ! ? I have heard somewhere that enamel thinner as used on tracks with some Nitroline products will eat up the Tracks - any opinion ! Edward
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 4 жыл бұрын
Very strong enamel thinner can weaken the thin glued connections between track links. However, I have not had that occur with NitroLine. I only had it occur once with an AK Rust Wash.

Do you mean the Ammo weathering products or Ammo paints for airbrushing? X-20A shouldn't work for either, so use water for the Ammo paints or lighter fluid for the Ammo weathering effects.

I may have missed it - but how did you seal this enamel/pigment layer? A pigment bonder, white spirit or a varnish coat?

Nope. Varnishes tend to ruin pigments. The enamel mud effect serves to bind on the pigments.

@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
Ohoho now that's a good one. So there's Mig AMMO, MiG Productions, AK Interactive, 502 abteilung, and Vallejo. Long story behind all that, but basically now I believe Vallejo owns MiG Productions and 502 and kinda merged them together recently. Mig AMMO is a different company, but the guy who owns it also used to work for AK Interactive and for MiG Productions at various times. It's a messy story...

Panzermeister36 lol, just now getting in to weathering and watching all these videos with different products made for a very confusing search between brands lol. Ammo and ak seem to be very similar companies so I had no idea who was the better brand for pigments, washes, etc but I'm assuming its more of a personal choice. Thanks for the info!
@Panzermeister36

Lol, if only I actually made money doing stuff like this. I "promote" products that I've used and that I find are good. I use them and show them because I think they're worth buying. If something I use is bad, then I won't use it since I don't think people should spend their money on it. For example, Vallejo pigments are garbage, so I don't ever use them. The only pigments I use are Mig and Wilder, since they're the best.
