Never seen a drummer play them like congas and he valued the essence and mechanics of the softer dynamics. I'm definitely going to look for MORE of his records and collect them.

This is how it's done! The best drummers are not the ones with the most drums and cymbals, the loudest or the fastest. The best ones are the ones who become the drums and tell you a musical story which makes you smile. Papa Jo Jones is the master!

He was that kind of showman and a fantastic drummer at the same time, with the one million dollar smile on his face 😀 ! Classic Master !

Never seen this one, looks like Papa Jo reverted to an old vintage set, as Buddy did, in his later days.Crazy tom tom,old style hoops and claws, staggered lugs,i gotta make one of those someday!. theres a great album on youtube right now"Jo Jones The Drums",been listening to it every night in bed, good for the brain, he has such a nice voice and manner also.
