In celebration of Deirdre Dyson’s Paper-inspired bespoke rug collection, Lady Deirdre Dyson has invited exciting 3-D paper artist, Richard Sweeney to take over her London Gallery at 554 King’s Road SW6 2DZ for a one-off exhibition entitled #CutPleatRepeat.
The exhibition will open at the start of Chelsea Design Quarter’s Autumn Design Trail, commencing 1 November 2021, and be on show until 14 January 2022.
For #CutPleatRepeat, Richard will show eight new paper sculptures using his exquisite paper artistry skills, which will be encased or hanging throughout the four-storey Deirdre Dyson Gallery.
In addition, a large-scale centre piece window installation, measuring over two metres by two metres, will be suspended in the atrium between the first and ground floors.
All Richard’s beautifully intricate sculptures embrace the theme of pleats, with inspiration taken from birds in flight - expressing his interest in the dynamic shapes he observes whilst folded paper and three dimensional form feature strongly in Deirdre Dyson’s current Paper-inspired collection of hand-knotted carpet designs and nature is a constant source of inspiration for Deirdre, hence the perfect synergy in this collaboration.

The Chelsea Design Quarter Autumn Design Trail is a chance to experience special collaborations at the multiple interiors showrooms of King’s Road & Lot’s Road including Haute Deco, Argile, Reed Harris, Waterworks & others.
#CutPleatRepeat remains on show at Deirdre Dyson’s gallery until Friday 14 January 2022. Please note the gallery closes over the Christmas period.
This November also sees the launch of Richard Sweeney’s new book Paper Sculpture: Fluid Forms (published by Schiffer) and he will host a workshop at The Barbican as part of the upcoming Isamu Noguchi exhibition on 27 November.
Richard has produced installations for Somerset House (an enormous 20m drop through the stairwell), Selfridges window, life-size Olympic horses for Lincoln Cathedral, and touring exhibitions for No. 10 Downing Street and the Crafts Council.
