What a touching story. You did a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life. Thanks

I thought this was heartbreaking in the middle of the story but oh my god the ending. Growing up can be filled with so many cruelties.

I was just referred this from reddit. I'm in tears. You told it so well. I'm subscribing and I will listen to every story you tell!

Thank you! I have many stories recorded on my channel so it may take you a while to work through them if that's a real goal! But feel free to comment on any of them and tell me what you think of the story. I really love hearing how these stories resonate with people or what they took away from them. Short stories can really die on the page if you don't get to discuss them with folks after!

This story made me cry a bit because it made me think of how my sister treats my brazilian mom and how she treats our family is back in Brazil. Very well read btw❤

Here from Reddit as well and I'm crying at 1am. You did a beautiful job narrating and pouring your heart into the characters. Especially the mother. Thank you for bringing this sorry life ❤

Thanks for going on the ride! I recorded this during the pandemic when an in-person class I usually read to was cancelled. I didn't expect it would ever get so many views. It's a story that has always stayed with me so I'm happy to see it touching others now, too.

I'm a English teacher of high school in Korea. I'm happy to find such a wonderful reading video. In my class, twice in a week, we have read "The Paper Manegerie" with your video. Thanks for your clear voice and expression. My students are enjoying your reading. Due to your reading, we can enjoy and share the impression. Thanks^^

I played this for my students studying short stories. We were all captivated with your telling of this story. (of course we were holding back tears at the end) Thank you.

That means a lot to me! This story is one of the first I ever read because I loved it. If you ever want another short story read for your class, I've got several on my channel and am always taking requests.

@@KateBlackSpence Can you recommend another one that you already have recorded?
@KateBlackSpence Жыл бұрын
@@norabeaulieu3555 I'm so late to respond to this! Apologies! But if it's at all still relevant to you, I'd recommend Chicxulub by TC Boyle for another beautiful high-impact story of parent/child love. I have two recordings of it on my channel. Or if you're looking for another exploration of fantastical landscapes, try Ray Bradbury's The Veldt.

Quality of sound and storytelling is really good! I had to read this story for my creative writing class so I'm glad I found an audio version to listen to while I draw

I always have to doodle (not good enough to call it drawing) while I listen to audiobooks. It helps me retain what I'm hearing. Glad I could be that for someone else!

Thank you for reading us this story, I was having trouble reading this since I am very bad at following with the story… but this story truly made me hold my tears back, since I also grew up in Asian households and somethimes our family would retale all of their story, well not as deep as this one, like my grandmother who talk so little about her time in the side of North Korea during the war.

.........wow. That was a wonderful story and you told it so well it was like I was reading it with my own eyes. For you to not be a slobbering mess after reading that, just wow. I hope you get a nice big Reddit bump.

19:24 the most painful sentence. You’re such a talented reader. My heart bled many times (happiness, sadness, feelings I’ve never felt and hope never have to experience) but I think my heart might’ve disintegrated at this sentence. Dear, poor mama. She’s my mom now. I’ve adopted her. (My mom adopts anyone who needs it, I force her to adopt my needing friends, but this mom’s mine). You really gave her her voice. Showed her love through you. Thank you.

Couldn't agree with you more!! We can all adopt her. ♥️

Here i was thinking this was just gonna be a simple short story for an assignment.... this hurtttt

I think "simple" and "short stories" are a contradiction of terms. It's part of what makes them all so damn powerful.

I’m teaching this today and just found out it’s blocked on the school wifi. 😢You read so well. I hate that I can’t show it to the students.
@KateBlackSpence11 ай бұрын
I hate that too!! Do you want me to send you a downloadable file? 😅 truly, I think students need to hear short stories aloud to start giving them a passion for short stories in life. I'd love to try to help if I can.

Thank you! I always try to be intensely respectful, especially when it's a dialect of a character of color. As a white reader I feel like that's a fine line to tread, so I appreciate that.
