Another game that requires no introduction! This is a really good port of the original Atari arcade game and probably one of my favourite games on the C64.
It has good controls, good graphics and a great audio track by Mark Cooksey. The Zzap64 score of 44% is just plain wrong.
Hurling heavy papers through the windows of non-subscribers never gets old.
Enjoy!

Yeah same here. Luckily I wasn’t the only one 😂 Most games (GhostnGhoblins, Henries House) back then were harder and more unforgiving than they are now.

I often think of that game! It's big part of my childhood! Playing that game in summer-times in the cellar on our C64! Then go out and bicycle myself! Awesome music too, so uplifting and upbeat! Paperboy C64 rules!

All the details made this a great game, the little "perfect delivery" jingle, you could smash the windows, knock the lids off the garbage cans etc etc.

Oh, how I used to play this on my father's Commodore 64. I had so much fun playing that game. The gameplay still lingered in my dreams when I no longer played C64 games when our C64 kicked the bucket.

Thanks for sharing this video. I remember playing this game for the first time at a video arcade in Ocean City, Maryland back in 1985 or so. My parents later bought me the C=64 version. Had a lot of good times playing that game.

I probably tried to play this game when I was a child, and I probably got knocked off the bike more frequently than I could count. My sister, brother and our family friend also played and hardly did better than me. The dogs actually inspired the friend and my brother, when they were playing Jumpman and lost a round, to say in unison, “WWWWWWOOF!” Today in 2023, I say that to myself when I lose any game I play. P. S. I have also referred to the music from this game whenever I play one or both of “R-E-S-P -E-C-T” or “Feelin’ Alright”.

"I remember it like it was yesterday..." the balding, middle aged man began. "..the Paper Wars of Eighty-Six." He looked up at me and narrowed his eyes, taking another shot fromt he bottle of Jack on the counter next to him. "I was a fresh-faced young recruit. A lot of us were. The veterans.. survivors, really.. boys 16, 17, 18 years old - they all warned us. They warned us to quit on the spot and never look back. But how can you tell that to a kid being offered five dollars a bundle? Five dollars a bundle for a few hours' work - you could make $40 bucks a day, easy, if you were quick. That's $280 a week, son - more like six hundred today.." He sighed, and glanced over to the collection of photos on the wall.. one of them is a younger version of himself, arm-in-arm with two other boys. "Five dollars a bundle.. to deliver.. in the sunny mornings of Southern California..."

I loved ZZap but sometimes they did overrate games. I'm with you on C64 Golden Axe - the music and graphics are good but the fact you only fight one enemy at a time ruins the game. The C64 did have bad arcade conversions compared to the spectrum. It's a shame.
@3622Dave
@3622Dave 5 жыл бұрын
As far as conversions go this was utter garbage. Awful graphics, only one street (no Middle Road or Hard Way), didn't have the arcade music, not able to hit enemies with papers, no sideways scrolling to avoid cars. It's a dreadful conversion.

Because they were being generous, it's such a shit version. die if you hit the curb, die if you hit the drain, can't avoid the car, can't hit people with the papers. It's unplayable and not fun.
