A few quotes from TFP Optimus: "I will bring you back a snowball." (S1E7) - warms my heart and sometimes makes me laugh, I quote this one often. "Do not believe everything you read." (S1E23) - funny, badass, G1-like and good advice. "I gotcha!" (S1E26) - everyday speech, good tone, great scene. "Megatron, be gone!" (S2E3) - badass and G1-like. "Agent Fowler can at times be oblique. I find it best to simply nod and mobilise." (S3E5) - with the look he has on his face, it's simply just funny. Maybe I shouldn't even say more, but I will, because many people seem to have similar opinions to yours about this version of Optimus, and I haven't really seen a point of view like mine, so I'd like to share it with anyone who cares to read on. I don't think someone is joyless if they don't play games, go to parties or laugh at every joke. I know it, because I've just described myself. And Optimus isn't joyless, but his joy doesn't come from such things. We can see that he is happy when he sees that Raf is cured, when he returns after getting his memories back, when Ratchet was able to repair Bumblebee's t-cog, when Ratchet contacts him from the Decepticon warship and when they are finally able to go home. And he isn't disconnected either. He says "my friend" so many times, he shows that he cares so much about Autobots and humans alike. He is even sorry for Megatron, when he dies for the first time! In the first episode, he says "We must not allow OUR anger over the loss of Cliffjumper to impair OUR judgement.". It is spelled out clearly in all capitals that he says he is also angry about it. (Notice how he doesn't say you shouldn't be angry, he just says you shouldn't do anything stupid, like risking your life because of your anger.) Prime doesn't laugh, cry or lose his cool. He keeps his emotions in check. I do agree that not laughing at all is a bad thing. (I laugh less than most people and I can completely controll it -that's fine.) Not crying is a good thing, for me (but I also understand why people say it's bad). Not losing your cool is the absolute best thing! Keeping your emotions in check doesn't mean you don't show them or ignore them. It means you acknowledge them and calm them down. Keeping my emotions in check is what has helped me when taking an exam, losing weight or facing my fear of having a surgery. I think it is a benificial thing for everyone to learn. There are more things in this video I don't agree with, but I didn't want to write too much (I clearly didn't manage). Just an opinion.

I really like TFP. For a few reasons actually. If you pay attention, there's actually a little character development. The fight scenes weren't that adrenaline rushing, but it wasn't ment to, the show was supposed to be unique compared to it's predecessors. I'm not saying prime's PERFECT. I'm just saying it was descent. I have not watched animated much, but the few I did watch made me like it. I maybe just have a emotional attachment to prime because it was the show I grew up with. I watched this review years ago, and I still concede some points are right. The most just makes me think that you missed a lot in this long show. Also, there doesn’t necessarily need to be one main character. There is was a lot of time spent on all the characters. And then I think you misunderstood a lot, for example, the Autobot group is literally called “Team Prime”. You didn’t imagine that could be the reason for the title? Since the first time I have watched this video, I grew more attentive and began making my own videos. I decided to give this video another go, and now I think I understand how I got more subscribers in the end

Could you do an in-depth review of Animated like this one? I can't watch that show through a non-nostalgic lens and the only commentary I see on it are people who are either blinded by nostalgia as well, or blindly hate it for being childish and different (which you did a good job encapsulating in the satirical comparison video). I'd love to hear some genuinely balanced and insightful thoughts if you were up to producing the video.

Does this show have issues? Yeah. Is it still the best Transformers show in my opinion? 100%.

4:25 Bumblebee was en route to join the autobots since he was already nearby the location of the fight. Thats the reason Megatron was flying nearby since he was flying to the battle. The only real issue with this scene is that Jack calls his mom from the base, but we already established earlier in the show that there is no Cell service inside the bunker since it blocks the waves. Other than that it makes sense that he would call his mom since an ambulance might take longer or not know how to get to the bunker, and she had already been there multiple times.

I really loved Prime, it was the first Transformers show I watched entirely. But one of the silly things that bothers me the most it's that Deadlock doesn't end with Optimus crossing the Spacebridge, only leaves him on the verge of doing it.

Re: Megatron not being in the driver's seat--yeah, he doesn't actually do a whole lot throughout. Lots of walking and talking around his ship, then getting mad when his lackeys fail to bring him [item of the day] when he would've easily had it if he'd just gone to retrieve it himself. However, you're dead wrong about Starscream. He is actually much more proactive in the first season or two (pre-Stockholm Syndrome him in S3), and extremely resourceful. He terminates Cliffjumper, awakens Skyquake, captures an Autobot and replaces him with a shapeshifter to infiltrate the Autobot base, almost offs Optimus but for Megatron's interference, manipulates his way into getting the Apex Armor, clones himself to infiltrate the Nemesis, finds allies in MECH, steals the Omega Keys with Red Energon... the list goes on.

I really don't understand Why people dislike animated just because it has a childish tone. I've only seen a couple episodes of it, but it's really good. It's portrayal of soundwave is amazing!

Prime is by no means perfect, but it probably has the most world building besides G1. And I think you aren't giving the show enough credit, Bumblebee died trying to give Optimus because he needed it to destroy the omega lock, not to stab Megatron recklessly. And though your assessment of Optimus as a character is not far off there are moments were he breaks character that shed a lot of light on Optimus's drive. Optimus has a handful of autobots left and one of them dies immediately in the beginning of the series, he is humorless most of the time because he can't risk losing focus, this war he's been in has went on for millions of years and he's on the losing end of it. And when he wins he's not even happy because he says he rather have changed Megatron's mind than have him be killed. You went really in depth with your criticisms but it seems some things just flew over your head.

I disagree with you in general and upvote to downvote ratio shows that many people do it too. You have some good points but that doesn't mean you have done justice to Transformers Prime.

This wasn’t as much an analysis as much as it was you voicing your preference for Transformers Animated over Prime. Both shows have entirely different tones and themes. Most of the plot holes you mentioned weren’t really as you described them. Mistaking the special instance where they were able to commandeer a space-bridge for the ground-bridge is a strange mistake especially with how much Transformers Animated and Beast Wars both used space-bridges for plot, and you rated them both above this series(both of which also have very similar tones). In short, it’s totally fine to have your own opinions, and it’s great to voice them, but this was more of a bored plot summery than it was a review, much less an analysis. Also, I think the series got its name because it was the first show or property after War for Cybertron to take place in pretty much Hasbro’s beta story of the Aligned Continuity, which was to establish a canonical history for Cybertron and the Primes.

The only good points you had were the show's lack of consequence and reliance on status quo which makes sense if u look at it from a toy selling perspective, the show trying to take itself too serious which dissolved in season 3, and un resolved plot lines/ characters. A decent amount of characters did have arcs(optimus Prime becoming more ruthless, Bumblebees promotion which led to a leader arc, Starscream's 180 makes sense when u realize that the character is a power hungry wannabe. He is the last character who wants to deal with consequences which is why he grovels back to megatron, smokescreen's arc about whether or not he should've accepted being a prime. ( I was happy when they wrote out arachnid and gave her no resolution because I hated her character and contribution to the show.) I can understand why u want the characters to stick out more but... If characters stick out too much then it hurts a war show about cooperation, family, overcoming a powerful enemy. A lot of your other points sounded like u were comparing it to Tf Animated way too much cuz u loved that show and were biased to it. I liked Animated too and I was impressed by how much I liked it despite my initial distaste for it. But Animated also has flaws similar if not the same flaws as Prime such as status quo, unresolved plots and unnecessary characters.(also Prowl's character did a total 180 when he gained that battle armor after there was an arc why he wouldn't use it. It did sell a good toy tho. ).i dont think you give Prime enough credit but that's OK. It obviously wasn't your cup of tea. Thank you for your opinion. I think the only major argument I have against this is the whole part about character individuality and the moral of the show. In my mind it made sense that Optimus had no character growth, because he's already old and wise. As for the main character and overarching story arc, I never felt like the show needed one. It was a show about maintaining or slightly improving the status quo because that's what real life is like. Right up until the last arc the story is about the Autobots making Earth their home and the challenges that come with doing that. Even though that all changes at the end when they get to go back to Cybertron, that's okay too because again, sometimes life throws you a curveball and what you've spent time working for has been for naught. I'm definitely rambling here but I'll try to sum it up. Prime is great because it's not a show about the plot, it's a show about the characters. It doesn't teach morals, there's no great quest, and not everything gets resolved in the end. It's just a glimpse into the lives of these characters, "good" or "evil", and it's all the more enjoyable for it. (Oh, and it looks fucking awesome.)

I used to love TF Prime. But then I rewatched Animated and felt like something was missing. Watching this video, I think you're right. It's probably wasted potential. Nemesis Prime, Decepticon Orion Pax, countless other fascinating concepts are just kinda done with in a single episode.

I personally enjoyed the show, mostly because it was and it is still my favorite show from my childhood. What i've liked the most was that it was a serious show but also had some funny moments.And you prove some convincing arguments in your video, and I kind of agree with them (mostly the ones that are about the final season). And now a message for the TFP fans that will get "triggered" after watching this video just because somebody says that your favorite show isn't that great, that doesn't mean you have to go in the "type a mean comment" mode and type everything in capital letters.

This year I decided to rewatch Transformers Prime after so many years, because I began to notice some flaws that made me dislike the show even though I loved it when I first watched it, so I wanted to know if the show would hold up after so long. And honestly, the show has aged really bad, it's not as good as I remember. The show became too repetitive and derivative; the mcguffin hunts were overwhelming, reusing the zombie plot 3 FREAKING TIMES; heck, the weekly Vehicon massacre only lessened the stakes, they made the Autobots look overpowered. My major criticism of the show is that it's too afraid to move out of line from status quo. You want examples? The Dark Star Saber was introduced right after the Star Saber, just so it would shatter it. The Autobots separated from one another only lasted TWO EPISODES. And last but not least: ORION PAX only lasted THREE EPISODES

Though the action, some quotes, and concepts please transformers lore fanatics the character development, weight, and plot focus weren’t great. The show merely hopped from plot point to plot point with no central focus on themes or plot.

Fucking Depth Charge's death in Beast Wars had more meaning than Bumblebee's. Depth Charge fully understood at the time that the stakes were much bigger than his grudge against Rampage, he knew that if he didn't go after Megatron none of it would matter and yet he chose to kill Rampage instead, willing to sacrifice everything to achieve that goal (including his own life). Thus showing the audience the logical conclusion of a mindless pursuit of revenge. What did Bumblebee's death show the audience?

Gotta agree on the individuality part. The characters and character interactions were just not that fun to watch even if the plotlines and action were, and this holds true regardless of whether or not characters had internal struggles and were developed. Of course there are exceptions, as there are more than a few standout moments. You're also 100% right about Bumblebee's fake development. The Optimus Prime is boring take, though, I think is inaccurate. If you look at Optimus Prime has the main character, then yes, he is boring, because he's already gone through his 1000 years of development off screen. As a mentor character/leader, he's great and he always carries the gravitas of a millennia-old warrior. The fight scenes were also mostly more boring than TFA because they were all in the middle of a desert or on Megatron's ship (mostly) against generic decepticon foot soldiers. In the grand scheme of all the things TFP does right, like engaging storylines and having good tension, these gripes aren't that bad and certainly aren't that bad in themselves. But the point is that TFP is not perfect. I've watched the shows 3 times over the years and each time I can't remember what happens, so this isn't a case of me not giving the show a chance--- I really tried to love it, but as it is it's just very likable.

If optimus stayed orion pax, and grew to be once again a prime, this would be animated but in 3D. Animated's Optimus Prime progression was its thing. Not every Optimus does that. This is prime optimus, and this was not meant to be his story. If you want character, look to war for cybertron, as the optimus there is uncertain if he was worthy of being a prime, and later leader of the autobots. This optimus prime is literally the wisest of the 13 OG primes, so of course he going to be more hardened than the others, not to mention the fact that orion pax existed even before the great cataclysm, according to the tf wiki. So that's gonna make him even more of that way. But he does let his emotions rise with lines like "don't believe everything you read" and "I'll bring you back a snowball" making him seem more like a father figure, which yeah, spoils his character by being ol' grandpa of Cybertron, but that just makes someone to look up to. Which is why I respect, but don't believe in your view of optimus. Not every transformers show has to be animated, and I feel you compare to it too much. They were literally a decade apart! I guess both of us are guided by nostalgia, but I just wanted to share my view on this review.

Transformers Prime may have been the series that got me into the franchise, but after watching other shows (Beast Wars and Animated in particular), I agree that while still one of the best, Prime isn't the best Transformers show of all time.

I remember watching this show as a kid everytime it was on TV but for some reason I always thought that some characters like starscream and megatron didn't look like robots but more alien like but now that it gained a decent amount of likes from it's fan base and it had a dark storyline I respect it

To me one of primes biggest flaws is that it didn’t set a lot of things up. Sure they’re was the shadow zone and arachnid. But bumblebees resurrection, primes death, and a lot of other plot points just happen with no set up. That’s pretty much my main problem. Other than that I really like this show. Probably my favorite one to be honest. I’m not a huge fan of the movie I feel it would have benefited from a longer run time. But that’s just me.

Prime is an okay show, I don't get all the love for it personally. The animators and voice actors did great, the writers...not so much. That's just my subjective opinion though. I'm glad you bring all these solid points. What really bothers me is that people consider it dark when the only autobot that ever died is Cliff Jumper and on the first episode which didn't make it very meaningful.

4:57 Energon and dark energon are meant to be antitheses to each other, so the idea that they would destroy each other isn’t far fetched. Also the mum throwing a ‘hissi fit’ was her (in her mind) getting a child to safety, it made perfect sense in the situation. And the ‘random tornado’ didn’t just spawn for no reason, it was established literally 5 seconds ago in the show that storms and natural disasters were happening literally everywhere due to unicrons awakening. Super bad faith stuff.

I do really like Prime, but I agree with lots of this. Sure, it's not perfect, but for me, it's good is enough to far outweigh the bad.

It's been a while since I've watched Prime, but the only place the bots seem to actually make the same noise when walking is in the Autobot base and on the Nemesis. But yeah in those places they all just make the same sound Optimus/Megatron/Anybody as big as them, when walking.

I love Transformers Prime to bits, but the first episode after the pilot miniseries is unbelievably weak. After a five part saga where the plucky Autobot heroes battled a world-ending threat, it jumped straight into a dull, boring, villain of the week filler episode. It was a really jarring tonal shift. Compare that with one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Battlestar Galactica. After the three-hour pilot miniseries set the gritty, hopeless, dark tone of the series, it was followed up by "33", which I'd consider one of the greatest TV pilots of all time. It was tense, suspenseful, and kind of exhausting to watch, and it carried the tone of the miniseries beautifully. It let you know that BSG wasn't going to let up anytime soon, and that you were in for one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. I was also more than a bit irked with the fact that Optimus just kept letting Megatron live, even though killing him had the chance to cause the Decepticon chain of command to completely fall apart, bringing a quicker end to the war, and potentially saving a lot of lives on both sides. Put simply, it's the atomic bomb dilemma faced by President Truman in 1945. Do we drop the bombs and kill thousands of people now, or do we go forward with Operation Downfall and have to kill the same people and many, many more over the course of months, all the while throwing countless American lives away in the process, and obliterate the nation of Japan as a global entity? It's an impossible choice, and there's no right decision, but often times, military leaders are faced with impossible choices. There's no easy answer to the question of whether or not to execute Megatron outright, and Optimus is never forced to face it. In fact, he is only ever called out on it once. And the only one who calls him out is clearly shown to not be in his right mind at the time, so even though he has a pretty good point, the show railroads us into siding against him. How many people died because Optimus let Megatron live so many times? A good leader sometimes has to make difficult decisions. Sometimes they have to do things which are hard to live with. Sometimes they must order their troops to kill, and other times they must order their troops to their deaths. Optimus only ever proved willing to kill Megatron in cold blood out of anger at the near death of a child, not the rationality expected of his character. I fully believe this version of Optimus is a good person (which is more than can be said for Michael Bay's interpretation of the character), but I never bought him as a good LEADER.
