CORRECTION: The conversion factor is off by 1 decimal point e.g. please use 0.025 instead of 0.25. ALSO the 881E model range is 0 to 300,000 lux. Sorry for the confusion. Shane
I have calibrated a cheap Amazon Lux meter to a professional PAR sensor, the Apogee SQ500. .
The results are very predictable up to 40,000 lux or about 1,000 PAR for the different spectrum samples of white LEDs and HID grow lights.
.
THIS WILL NOT BE ACCURATE FOR BLURPLE OR OTHER SPECTRUM NOT TESTED.
.
The meter is widely available on amazon and is called the 'AP-881E Digital lux meter, range up to 400,000 lux' and costs about €30.

This is an amazing video and thank you for doing this! I have that exact Lux meter. So from reading the correction you posted, I am going to take my LUX reading off my 4000K LED white light and multiply by 0.024 as opposed to 0.24, right? THANK YOU! I'm so confused then at why my seedlings are growing so well... my readings, once converted are in the high tens, low twenties at 30cm distance, yet they are growing well. Nevermind!! My numbers are fine. I missed the little "x10" instruction on my instrument. ☺️

At a level that it will be enough to go to the place twice first when germinate/put to soil/pot and when harvest. This is all of The buyer’s workout. We have Micro electronics engineer/programer corp. My idea became the next big roll of the decade bro! let's talk in private “gabass87 @ iCloud . com” we make AI for this and indentify pests and more, ios app, live video... And that's just the tip of the iceberg 😏

ViparSpectra XS1500 in a 24" x 24" tent. Hanging height about 40cm. I am measuring a max of about 62,000 lux in the center an the nearby areas are measuring about 59,000 lux. Your map for that light shows about 810 PPFD where I am reading 59,000 lux. This light is about 2:1 3000K : 5000K so I would expect the conversion factor to be about 0.022 based on this video, nut comparing my DR Meter Lux Meter to your PAR map gives a conversion closer to 0.014. Using my lux meter and the conversion factors from this video, my whole tent is about 800 PPFD and I am about 1300 PPFD at the center. The XS1500 is closer to 12:6:1 (3000K : 5000: : 660nm ) plus a single IR. Anyway you can compare the XS1500 spectrum with a lux meter and the quantum sensor. I have been dividing lux by 60 (conversion of 0.0167) to get PPFD, but if your conversions are correct I'm closer to 1400 than I am to 1000 at the center of my tent at just under 16". I wonder if the proximity to the row of 660 diodes screws up the lux meter reading. A lighting website gives calculated conversions and it varies greatly when comparing the red to the white leds. Please help if you get some time. I also commented on the XS1500 video because it is a newer one. Thanks for all the great videos!!!

I would just like to point out to anyone using HLG lights, there's somewhat of a difference in this chart and the "chart" that would show up if you used HLG's PPFD calculator. For example, if you're using QB 288 V2 3000k boards, which would technically be 3000k white LEDS, HLG's calculator shows 582 PPFD at 40,000 lux. This chart shows 580 PPFD at around 25,000 lux. Just google "HLG converting Lux to PPFD & Measuring Lux with Smartphone" and you'll find calculators for quantum boards. I've used the HLG calculator for two grows and it hasn't let me down, but I don't have a PAR meter so I don't actually know which chart is more accurate.

Well, as close as possible for white led lights like you said, although some UVs and IRs in the middle, i hope it will be able to make good readings and multiplying by the correct factor...get a PAR reading as close as possible to the Real values. Hope you can get back to me with the answer of wich is closer to the Real values, please! Thank you very much Joaquim

I tend to use the RBG SENSOR on my Samsung galaxy smartphone and it breaks down the colors, calculates lux and total white light, go to dialer and input *#0*# and then test sensor which should include the light sensor reading broken down in RED BLUE GREEN LIGHT READINGS. It's nowhere near as accurate in spectrum as an apogee 520 but it still gives a bit of a better average than just the normal lux meter which may not be programmed to differentiate between those colours, so this could work with the blurple leds. Also the lux meters tend to be calibrated for a specific Kelvin and CRI in lighting as they tend to be used in photography and measurements of lumens in interior design lighting.
