Hey, just wanted to add that you don't need Para-Max. I used a Bungee cord I got for two dollars at Harbor Freight. I used 550 paracord for the handle though. Great video!

Great, simple instruction I got right the first time. The only adjustment I made was to shorten the paramax before wrapping, otherwise 3' would've been too long for my cup. Thanks for the tutorial!

I read that plastic bottles leach chemicals into the liquids stored in them so I wanted a glass bottle for making tea. I used an old gallon glass bottle that originally contained dill pickles, but when filled with tea it was quite heavy. I used your tutorial to make a nice handle for my jar. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!

So here is my review of the DIY. I really like it. It holds my mug very pretty good. The only thing I would recommend is maybe put a rubber band on the bottom of your mug underneath the bottom loop. Mine slips off sometimes. And I have my loops pretty tight.

This is really nice. I have that Walmart one. You are right; those cups don't all measure the same. My other big cup like this (I think it is Simple Human brand) has a little bit larger diameter on the bottom. It is too large for the cup holder in my car. The Walmart one fits just fine though and that is why I have two of these big cups. The lids are interchangeable. Having a handle on one of these things means I will actually use it. Otherwise it is too difficult to pick up with one hand. Now there are two things I want to make using Paracord. I started down this KZfaq rabbit hole looking for bracelet ideas. So I think I now need Paracord! I must get some. I still am not understanding how that handle works though. What keeps it rigid and secure enough so it doesn't bend up and the cup dangle lower from its weight when you lift it? I can see how all the weaving makes the Paracord handle so strong and fairly rigid, but I don't get how there is no movement at the stress points where the Paracord and bungee cords meet. Could you please clarify this for me?
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 5 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! For this project, we actually did NOT use bungee cord, but that may work as well. We used "para-max" which is like paracord, but with a larger diameter. Around that, we weaved ordinary 550 paracord. The big loops friction fit over the cup. If you are worried about rigidity, you can make the woven handle part shorter for a less flexible handle.

Question : how are you finishing the handles? when you're done with the knotting.. are you just melting the ends? doing an extra knot?
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, when finishing with the 550 cord, just melt the ends and flatten them against your project with the side of your scissors or lighter.

I have a 20oz yeti tumbler. It doesnt expand as much at the top as the 30 that you show in the video. Would you go slightly shorter with the paramax? Maybe 30 inches?
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, shortening the handle just a little would be a good idea. 2-4 inches less should do the trick.

Do I have to use the paramax or can I just use regular 550
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 5 жыл бұрын
You could definitely use 550, but it may stretch more and not fit as tight. The para-max cord has less stretch and grips better. Other synthetic fiber ropes would also likely work in place of para-max.

How do you make the handle so it's not limp, I made one today and it isn't strong
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 4 жыл бұрын
So this tutorial uses "para-max" cord, which is pretty stiff. On top of that, we weave a "cobra" or "Solomon Bar", then we weave the same thing over the top again. If you are doing all this and it still turns out limp, make sure your first layer of cobra weave is really tight. Every time you make a knot, slide it upwards, toward your completed knots. Hope that helps!

It would vary depending on the shape of the mug but you should be safe with 5 ft. It would likely be similar to the 3 ft. we used in the video.

King Cobra weave? I have honestly never heard anyone call a square knot that. Why are you re-inventing the wheel?
@ParacordPlanet
@ParacordPlanet 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! In the world of paracord, "cobra weave" is the most common name for the square knot or Solomon bar knotting method. You are not alone in your frustration. We've actually been trying to dig into the reason behind the renaming of this knot. Stay tuned!
