Russia has become more nationalized and the Chinese influence in the east has been somewhat curtailed as Russia is more in need of the resources that were leased out. He knows exactly what he's talking about. The Balkans are the east European countries lying between the Adriatic and the Black Sea. Look it up on Wikipedia. Gold is only a small part of the Mongolian mineral extraction industry. Copper, coal, molybdenum, fluorspar, uranium, tin, and tungsten collectively dwarf gold mining, and China is the largest investor in those. So in both of the cases that you cite, the speaker was correct.

Well it's like a lecture in biology that states that for a bacteria the best way to thrive is to gradually dissolve the cellular wall and let osmosis have its way. Of course if any bacteria actually does it then... well... It bloats from incoming water and all the nutrients inside are dissipated. Eventually it will be ripped apart by internal pressure. Funny that there are actually a quasi-living organisms that routinely "persuade" bacteria to do just that. They are called viruses. Intra-cellular parasites that want to spread and infect more cells.

@@cOr3t3ecks Well, the maps did not change that much and they were criticized by many commentators. Ofc he could not know about the arab spring, but assuming Europe could work together with Erdogan... (seriously, anybody with more than 2 braincells knew he was a catastrophe waiting to happen on the day he was elected. And he became the executive leader of Turkey in 2003.) Others correctly pointed out even before the 2008 economic downturn that there was a large but limited demand for oil, not all proposed pipeline projects could be built and refinanced simultaneously. There was massive lobbying and threats of war even back then. Google for Southstream and compare to Northstream (now even on iteration 2 with bigger capacity) and see who profitted from violence and uncertainty in the middle east.

@@tomk2747 Ok I didn't name them exhaustively because they were so many in just the first five minutes, he says: "in 1945 there are 100 sovereign countries" when even counting occupied Axis nations it's hard to get to 75 "the Russian Far East population is 6 million" when in the mid 2000's it's closer to 9 million "Helionjiang (Harbin) population of 100 million" when it's actually 49 million in 2009 & even if you add Inner Mongolia its still adds up to only 70 million " greater than the population of russia" when he just said the population of Russia is 140 million "600 thousand Chinese emigrate each year to the Russian Far East". Russian census in late 2000's puts them at 30 000, and even the highest estimates from other sources give a 400 000 - 500 000 of Chinese nationals living in all of the Russian federation in total (that's less than his own fantasy arrivals in one year!) Kalisthan memory lives only in Canada. The revolutions in the eastern part are between tribes for supremacy some of them wish a statehood for its own tribe, not a separate country. If it has paid attention to its own development Pakistan had great resources, a huge talent pool and has everything to become a better country but rather it decided to remain dreaming for someone else collapse and in the name of morality and religion kept interfere in others internal affairs.

He forgot to talk about US imperialism which promotes land without borders in order to easy the way it exploits poor people. Example: invasion of Iraq, setting so-called democracy (actually it's market liberalism), buying up companies that fail to survive in the newly created system and taking resources out of that territory. In that so-called global economy, there will be some spots that accumulate all, and the rest will sink in poverty.

Solutions to historic problems - seriously what a waste of time. He overlooks and oversimplifies things and gets paid for it (useless stuff ) . A third party cannot solve a border dispute between 2 nations . It depends only on the trust between those 2 nations , peoples and goverments . Russia and China solved some of their long running disputes after tensions cooled and egos had calmed. But many other disputes will not get solved that easily.

It was a projected scenario based on then geopolitical pattern n promising trade policies among most of the nations. He was right about South Sudan and Greenland as well, with Greenland just a matter of time. They are already self-governing with its own parliament since 2009(probably the reason of separation from Denmark he talked about). However one of the issues they might face once they become sovereign is their very economy. Its predicted to be one of the poorest economies in the world with horrible infrastructure (again the reason yet to be separated)

What he said about 'change' being the only constant feature is true. After (almost) a decade after he delivered this speech of his, the world is significantly different, though not with any more new borders, but that as a potential factor. He hasn't covered much on trade, but now 'trade' has become a new force & an alternate to war - its war by other means. Gone are the days when people used to think 'Trade' as all peaceful or a vehicle for peace. Trade can trigger wars.

This is what Evgeny Morozov had to say about Parag Khanna in one of his book reviews published by The New Republic: All of these insights are expressed in linguistic constructions of such absurdity and superficiality (“a world of ever-shifting (d)alliances,” “peer-to-peer micromanufacturing marketplace”) that Niall Ferguson’s “Chimerica” looks elegant and illuminating by comparison. Khanna must be a gifted schmoozer, too: the acknowledgments sections of his books are primary documents of contemporary name-dropping. Khanna’s contempt for democracy and human rights aside, he is simply an intellectual impostor, emitting such lethal doses of banalities, inanities, and generalizations that his books ought to carry advisory notices. Khanna does not really care about the details of policy. He is a manufacturer of abstract, meaningless slogans. He is, indeed, the most talented bullshit artist of his generation. newrepublic.com/article/105703/the-naked-and-the-ted-khanna
