I've got this car and its more than enough, one of the best things about the A200 engine is the headroom, its no where near at its limit, so a basic stage 1 tune or tuning chip takes it over 200 bhp. I've done that to mine and clocked a 6.9 second 0-62 in it. Its seriously fast when it needs to be, also due to the fact its only 1270KG in weight. Full on MK7 Golf GTI rival, and even feels a hair quicker than a Skoda Octavia VRS I drove the other week that has almost 250 bhp. Also I get high 50's in MPG on long runs, and after 28k miles, my average is now at 45mpg with different types of driving, all in a 200+ bhp car. Very impressive.

I have grown up with Mercedes-Benz, 23 of them in my direct family. Owner five of them myself, covered 768,000km in one of these. Busy buying my sixth, a G350d. Some of the comments here are just immature brand bashing without substance. Opinion always is cranial flatulence. Stick to factual information, please. We're not all twelve years of age. Renault may have the same engine, but it is made by Mercedes-Benz in Deutschland. Proven very reliable, dependable and enduring. Very economical. South Africa 🇿🇦 is a great test bed due to extreme climes. If it lasts here, which it does, it will last everywhere else. These cars were endurance tested on very rough dirt roads in some of the harshest desert conditions on earth.

Spoken like a true third worlder. Fyi, the engines are made by Renault themselves and the only changes are ECU management, s&s system, different flywheel, AC and engine mounts. Everything else is exactly the same and a damn good affidavit on the lack of neurons about people who buy them thinking they're driving muh mercedes while in reality they're in a transvestite overpriced, lower quality Renault.

I bet it will start taking oil before 100 k miles. And that will be just the beginning of the problems.... Now every user/owner is in love with that because similarly to eco boost or TSI engines it pushes nicely and quickly from 0 to 100km/hr, doing generally attractive MPG, but all of this has its price. Hence the manufacturer's of this little (sh*t) do not want you to know this. I am wtiting this as a happy owner of Lexus ES300h - a hybrid with included 2.5 petrol engine with no turbine doing in a city 4.5-5 l/100km or 7-7.5 l on motorway. The direction the German manufacturers go towards by putting some random french junks under the bonnets of their previously nice cars - makes me thinking they are some eco influenced lunatics.....

@@Nofanboyz the 1.3 engine should be no more than 80-90 hp to have long life (while properly serviced)....... My 2019 lexus Es300h that has in total 218hp - has 2.5 litre engine. No turbocharged, no some eco-shit added..... Just basic 2.5 l R4 petrol working in Atkinson cycle + electric engine, and all this makes it 218hp, giving on average 43mpg. That is 5.5l/100km of petrol. Very good for car of this size.... Speaking about small engines - from different ppl that I personally know and who used either 1.2TSIs or 1.0 eco boosts - pretty much everyone sooner than later changed it for something different.... I am not saying 1.3 in this configuration is bad but with car of this size it will wear out quickly.... 1.8 or 2.0 is absolutely a minimum.

Traded in a Golf for a W177 A Class. The Golf was a much nicer product overall. The A is a subpar product that relies on a badge without delivering proper quality. They're crap. And don't even get me started on the auto gearboxes. Dear Lord, it's like they've came from stone age compared to a DSG. I'd avoid them as plague, especially considering that the support network from owners is inexistent. Most are just muh premium muppets and if you take it to authorized dealers you're going to get your wallet raped.

@@Nofanboyz Cheap plastics all over the interior, even the "aluminium" bits are fake and made of plastic. The centre console made in a "piano black" finish is just a tremendously lousy choice. Sure it looks wonderful when you see them at the dealers or the day you buy them. A couple weeks down the line, it gets completely mangled because even a microfibre cloth scratches it. The whole cabin is a rattle central. And there's no point in chasing the rattles and creaks. You might try but you'll soon find that the more you fiddle with the plastic bits and panels, you may silence on rattle or creak but two more will appear somewhere. Better left as it is. And don't even think taking it into a dealer. First they'll mock you and second you most probably get it back worse than when you left it there. The cabin suffers from too much intrusion regarding wind noise. Mostly due to poor door seals and fitment. No A class is immune. Some may be better, some may be worse, but they all suffer from it. Might be minimized with seal refitment and/or door alingment, but once more, the more they get fiddled, the chances of a worse outcome rise. For cars at their price point such poor build quality isn't acceptable. Seat seams, especially on leather seats, frequently rip. Being the shoulder area the more frequent zone. Again, at their price point, this is just shoddy quality. Most often than not mercedes turns a blind eye and says it's user fault. Frequent electric gremlins. SRS faults galore for instance. Some cars over the years end up having their entire interior gutted just to have component after component replaced. From the seatbelt buckle, to the harness underside, to the whole seat matrix (requiring removal of the whole seat and leather cover - sure that will end up fine) to the several modules. AC issues with sensors. Door switches. Parking brake. Rear view mirrors leaking the liquid crystal and messing up the whole dash. And the list could go on. MBUx is a joke. Riddled with bugs and its integration with the mercedes me services at best works intermittently. If you pay for subscription services, better getting used to put in a claim for the downtimes. I've been without access to vehicle status services for over a month now while "they're having issues and trying to quickly solve them". And let's not forget, along with the S&S, having a car that connects to the internet 24/7 you battery doesn't last for more than 3 years and if you do happen to park it for over a week it will start complaining about it's battery. Either you have to bring a jump pack or enable it's sleep mode just like a phone. At first the mid range models had access to the multilink rear axle, which is nowhere near competence when compared to an independent rear suspension but at least it was tremendously better than a solid rear axle. Mid production, quietly and without alerting consumers, mercedes changed most range to a solid rear axle. Again, considering the prices they go for, it's just sad and laughable. Their dynamics are meek at best. Perfectly fine as appliances but absolutely not a drivers car. If you're unlucky, your panoramic roof shatters to a thousand pieces when the body flexes a bit more. Yes, they're not very rigid at all, hence not a drivers car. Even less if you've got a 116hp version carrying 1500Kg, the famous 180d. Engines do seem to be on the nicer side. Excluding some models, like the 35s/45s that love to grenade themselves from time to time and some of the OM654s that end up needing camshaft, tappets and rockers replaced. Gearboxes, has I've already said are atrociously bad. The 7G were slightly better. The 8G is just a bag of rocks. In reality it's a 7G in drag which simulates an extra speed by combining three others. Very noticeable by the way it goes from a standstill at the lights or how it downshifts. Especially from 4>3>2. DMF failures albeit not common are frequent. On a DCT gearbox, it's just shoddy workmanship and programming. Again, let's not forget how much they cost. The front axle, despite not having any issues at all, has a characteristic clunking noise when going over stuff. One gets used to it, but it's quite disconcerting as it sounds exactly like as if the bushings have failed. Again, poor build quality for a car at this price range. They are LOW. Too much even for what they offer. 100mm clearance. And you've got to remember you still have got a couple flaps on the underside. So in reality the clearance is more around 60mm. Either you drive carefully of you're going to quite quickly leave a couple bits behind. Overall assistance network is a joke. Quality is pretty much non existent. But rest assured they're more worried about looks than substance. Even if to do a basic service they end up delivering your car with a couple more scratches and dents they'll offer you a coffee, some magazines and a nice lounge to wait. Boomers fall for that like flies for honey. And I could write a lot more but I'm reaching the YT comment character limit. Spent over 50K on A class thinking I was getting into something "better". The car is a claptrap and the brand is a magnet for poor people and badgemaniacs. If it wasn't for the money invested and nowadays everything being a hybrid I would had already dropped it like an anchor. Facts enough for you? I can swing by later on and add some more. All verifiable on owners groups. Peace.
