Paralives has revealed several mini trailers -especially for build mode and parameter but also animations for live mode. Now, a newly public Patreon posts shows us build buy items and clothing that gives us hints about a more whimsical side to gameplay.

Is there a release date for Paralives?
It’s still in early development. No release date has been announced yet.
How is Paralives different from The Sims?
Paralives is being developed by a small indie developer and features unique graphics. For now, it seems to be interested in a more realistic take on a life simulator. It will also include unique features like height sliders.
Why is it called Paralives?
“The name Paralives is a reference to parallel lives, allowing players to live different virtual lives and build homes to stage them.”

I like this weird stuff, it gives me sims 1 and 2 vibes. Campy weirdness is always a good thing, it has been lacking in Sims 4 almost entirely. They don't even have the goofy heart-shaped bed anymore!

I was going to say the same thing about it giving the off the campy vibes of the first 2 Sims games. These type of niche items are reminiscent of the past, but when implemented in games, these retro items will often reestablish in the modern market...so, Kudos to the Paralives team❣ Also, fun fact, while they do have 2 versions of the teddy bear, Sims 2 does have the plushy toys that get worn over time (I think @onlyabidoang does point this out), the teddy bear included.

I think the important thing is that the fact that they bother to make such rare items, which the vast majority of us won't use, at least for me, is a sign of care and attention to detail. As the developers of Baldur's Gate 3 said about these details: 'We don't care if only 1% of the players use it. That 1% who does will be happy, and they'll tell the remaining 99%, who will be glad that the option existed.'

A teddy bear mechanic would be a throwback to the Sims 2. Played that game 15 years and only last year found out if you hold onto a teddy long enough, it starts to show wear and tear. Sims 2 was such a stickler for the smaller details for realism's sake. Paralive also seems to have those ideas in mind, so this probs wouldn't be hard to include if mentioned to them.

I freaking love the beaten up Teddy Bear! Imagine if the Paralives team incorporate something like Mean Paras / Hate Children / Hot-headed Paras "sabotaging" or taking out their anger on this plushies and they go from normal condition to beaten up??? I would absolutely eat up that detail OH GOD! 🤩

Aside from the coffin, I don't consider any of these things strange. As you just said, they're whimsical.Some of them, like the chairs and tables, would fit well with a 60's/70's aesthetic, I think the term might be kitsch. Whatever they are they look great. If you're doing anything for Halloween tomorrow, have a great time. 🙂

I love the tackiness and quirkiness of these odd items. It will definitely add fun and some personality to Paralives. Oh, and piñatas were usually a staple at family birthday parties. I love to see interactive piñatas added to the Sims as well.

The Lip couch is a famous 70s designer couch. If you look up Studio 65 in wiki, there's a picture. It's probably why you know it, it pops up in photographs now and then. =) I am also here for a few odd items to decorate - and for well loved teddy bears.

While I personally won't use most of the odd items, maybe I would size down the cow to put on the shelf, the donut cushion in some bedrooms, or the skull decor for goth/horror themed builds. Trivia: The lip couch exist in the Sims 2 University! Also the propeller cap in the Sims 2 base game.

i used to use the lip couch so much in sims 2 as a kid! iirc there was something similar in the gamecube version of sims 2 too, i used it a lot as well lol

Absolutely adore the "manly" leg lamp, and the skull planter will be excellent for certain types of characters (gardening goth?). The others I'm okay with - could see myself using on rare occasions (except the coffin bed - I don't even let my vampires use coffins; those things terrify me and I don't play with them). So yes, even if they aren't things I think I'll use, I do always like a touch of whimsy or humor in the offerings. And this was a fun update for the spooky season! 😁

@@kkk-gf6sj I don't know; it looks like a pretty good representation of a man's leg from dress socks and shoes, and vintage men's sock garters - it's definitely a play on the sexy lady's leg lamp in the fishnets from "A Christmas Story." And I happen to like it when guys dress in vintage clothes, so I called it "manly." 😁

I love how Paralives keeps a cartoony aesthetic and Life By You seems to veer more in the realistic direction Paradox is used to. It's like we're getting two Sims games, one for Maxis Match fans and one for Alpha CC fans, so you can choose which one is more your style.

Whimsical things are great. The sims used to have have whimsical stuff and a dark sense of humor. If Paralives can be closer to the sims 1-2 that would be awesome. I remember you could leave your game running then come back to see the sims throwing a house party with the tragic clown and the grim reaper.

@@SimmerErin there’s no sense of danger that makes you feel like your sim could die at any moment in sims 4, for me personally that’s boring. All life states could die in the original games and that made you have to actually take care of them and get them to level up skills. Fire used to be deadly. I don’t like this tame version.

Cozy and calm is fine, but I love silly things like cow figures, duck lamps, bear doorknobs and weird furniture. I think we could all use some more color in our undersaturated, minimalistic lives, and who says a leg lamp can't be cozy? ✨

The Lips Sofa and Egg Chair really reminds me of classic Sims game, I'm pretty sure Sims 2 on PS2 had a very similar Lips Loveseat and The Sims Bustin' Out on PS2 also had Egg Chair and Mouth Chair (it was an Egg Chair too, but instead of looking like an egg, the inner part was replaced with something that would look like a tongue) OH how I miss those games... back when I still didn't have any PC, I was also a console gamer, good time... 😔

I remember the lip couch in Sims 2 University. I think Sims 1 had an Egg chair but the inside is not yellow so it doesn't really look like an egg

I honestly love that they have a coffin bed. When I was younger I had asked my parents why people don't just sleep in coffins since they're expensive so using them as beds would get more use out of them before being put in the ground

The lip sofa was actually part of a code thing they had for Sims 3 for a short time, on coke products! I have it, and the fact that it exists here makes me happy!

definitely see the influences. someone pointed out- and this is why I thought the lips felt familiar- that there was a similar item in sims 2 university. and while they do draw influences, it's also cool how they make it a bit their own too

The leg lamp and baguette slippers are things I could see being sold at the retail chain Flying Tiger. And I absolutely hate how the game's jiggle physics work on the horse mask. My favourite is probably the d6 side table, and I could definitely see myself using the skull plant pot in several builds (and the plastic cow in some), though I'm not sure any of these are going to get as... Iconic... as the Animal Crossing Froggy Chair. (...Though... Maybe the leg lamp)

I think if they added more stuff for Halloween, they'd need a peanut butter costume to go along with it. Also, a couple of other food costumes could be a hotdog, a taco, a burrito, a pepperoni pizza, a burger, a bag of fries, and a milkshake.

It’s also Halloween! So it’s a great time to showcase some wacky stuff. But lots of this type of stuff has been in the sims, like the lip couch. And yeah stuff like the pug plush (love!) would be great in kids rooms or even teens or quirky adults. Glad to see a little personality coming

So I did see this post on the Paralives community tab and I had looked at these before. The cow especially gives me a good chuckle as someone from Wisconsin who has lived in a few different towns of varying populations - every city/town I've lived in has at least one home that has a big cow figurine in their front yard. Yes, it's a bit tacky, but I mean...it is what it is in Wisconsin. We love our cows and cow products. 😂 The lips seat reminds me of the cheekiness of Sims 1. It makes me happy for that reason. I love all the other quirky little seats. They seem essential to me because of the personality they bring. You're right about this giving Paralives sort of its own sense of humor.

Something that i think that'd be pretty neat for the devs or modders to bring to Paralives and even The Sims 4 is Foster Care and Hand Me Downs and it'd also be neat for the Paralives devs to add Holidays and certain types of weather like snow,rain,wind,cold and hot temperatures

I'm all for whimsy quirky items and details. That's what draws me to TS2 too and I live for it! I'll be incredibly happy camper if Paralives will include occults (vampires, fae, werewolfs....), gardening, cooking intergrated with gardening etc., historical stuff, whimsy things, quirks and gameplay.

Yess, that's what I need, weird and quirky! Like lots of others have said, it's everything they took away from the sims 4 that made it souless! Edit to add: it's the personaility and the interactions / consequences of actions that need to be weird for me, not just some inanimate objects though...

hi erin! i hope you see this. i was wondering if you could do another video covering paralives and the fact it’s not a scam? there are people on their recent post who believe because no live mode has been demonstrated publicly yet, paralives aren’t making any progress. i think few people know about the development map, but over the last few months it mentioned live mode frequently so if you were to do this, i think that will help show what’s going on behind the scenes best. as a patron, i can see what’s going on but ofc can’t talk about it and it’s difficult to talk about the roadmap in a comment as it’s so in depth. hope ur having a good day and ty for everything you make!

sorry i never replied... this week was so busy and crazy! Yeah sadly I have made a few videos on this issues, and even on how long it's taking them and so forth. I haven't decided if I should do one again or not... but I also often see it compared and even judged more harshly for its development than some of the upcoming AAA games!

yes, some say it is in sims 1- I never got to play and don't know- but it also appears in sims 2

Love that lighthouse. FYI the original Red Lip seat - or Mae West Lips sofa was by Salvador Dali so the sims version is a derivation too - not original to them either. I like that the horse head has an animation - will probably never use it.
