Vlogging Set up and a new helmet. I've been asked a few times to cover my Vlog set up. He is a video that should cover most of the aspects of my PM-100 Paramotor headset. I use the same headset for my Peabee flexwing as I do for my paramotoring so I wanted to make sure it would meet both needs.
A few notes from MicroAvionics.
DIP switch 3 must be used so the Gopro records everything. If this switch is off, then you won’t record your voice, unless you use the radio and press the PTT.
The EPS liner should be glued in place, a big blob of silicone is fine.

Wow! I've watched a few times now Giles! I have been waiting for this video! The Pm100 headset has so many real use features that I might just end up getting some! Hey Giles I have a few questions. I'm looking at helmets and headsets and I have a thinner head and wear glasses. I'm looking at the Icaro Solar X they say its a more narrow design. I'm also looking at the PM-100. Just wondering if you think they are worth the investment or would it be just as good to build one with a sena? Also I had hope that the face shield would be the way to go with glasses to block wind and have tint to block the sunlight in the mornings and evenings? Your thoughts.

The Solar X is a good helmet, I'm not sure about how narrow they are but I don't have a wide head and its very comfortable, I've worn it for nearly 6 hours no issues. The PM 100 is an aviation headset, it won't let you talk to other Bluetooth ( motorbike comms units) the Bluetooth is purely for connecting to phones, Ipods etc, its not a full duplex talking Bluetooth system. Most people I know just connect to their phones and make a whatsapp group chat call from the headset. If you look at my visor goggle video it will give you more of an understanding on the benefits and drawbacks of both. Personally I had more streaming eyes with a visor than with nothing, you just don't fly fast enough. I haven't flown with a visor or goggles for nearly 2 years now and had no issues. If its bright, just put sunglasses on, much better than the tinted visors I've used. I hope that helps.

Thanks Giles. Curious on your choice to mount the GoPro on top of the helmet as opposed to the forehead. Any particular pros or cons in how you made this decision and also what you use for your “break away” setup for the camera. Best! 👊🚀

I personally don't like the mount on the front because it prevents the use of a visor or goggles (they can't move up). If the camera is mounted on the front there is a greater chance of line snag. My break away will be industrial strength velcro and a tether. I hope that helps.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 - I have heard conflicting opinions with others saying they think it is more prone to snag being located on top but I don't know who all is just speculating or actually speaking from personal experience. As always, appreciate the reply!

@@kitpatterson5230 A lot of the BHPA accident reports and action cams were from those on the sides and front. I still get the odd line from a landing if I don't dip my head quick enough. The best thing is to not have it on there at all. If I could hard mount it on the peaBee I would, but sometime you just want to have a pilots eye view. I'm not saying its right, just how I do it. As long as the break away is strong enough and tethered I'm happy.

The scarab has the nut already positioned. I think the bolt in an M4. Who supplied your helmet? Just thinking they might be able to help.

How did you stick your gopro mount to the ridged surface on the top of the Icaro Solar X helmet? I just received mine in the mail... trying to figure out a plan. :P

Hi Andrew, I used 2 of the 3M sticky pads but I cut the middle out of the lower one. When I came to make my break way mount on my Scarab helmet, I did the same but then put the Velcro on top. I hope that helps.

Hello Reiner, I've yet to get my hands on an ANT but it does sound like a good combination. Regarding the headsets, I'd stick with the PM100 as it has not functionality over the 200 which is just a VOX headset. I'm assuming when you say open or full you are referring to the visor. I. Like the full face but it does need a modified wind dam for the speeds we fly at, it certainly keeps the cold air out. I hope that helps.

Hey thank you for the video. I am curious if you use remote PTT and if so how did you configure it with GoPro audio as well? If not is it a huge issue using PTT on side of helmet?

Hello Allan, yes I do use the remote PTT, its much easier when flying my Flexwing, however, if I'm paramotoring, I just use the one on the earcup. The only configuration on the GoPro is making sure the correct mic is used, and that is the standard setting. The line out is already a fixed level. MicroAvionics made it really simple. @@GolfFoxtrot22 hey thats good to hear. how come you dont use remote ptt when paromotoring? also sorry im not entirely sure my main question was answered. if you dont mind, how did you get remote PTT and GoPro aud hooked up? I talked to MA and if i understood them they said its not possible with my set up. so im curious if maybe i can change switch configuration to allow for both thank you!

@@allendowe6339 the remote PTT is connected the the left ear up, to the little connector, I don't use it for Paramotoring as I never made that many radio calls, so the ear up button was fine. You mentioned that you had contacted MA about the gopro audio, do you have the Audio out lead on your headset?

This question sort of got asked but let me try again. How does the PM-100 handle electrical noise from the spark. I have an older Lynx helmet and head set and I get quite a bit of "static" while the engine is running. It is most certainly from the coil, wire, spark, magneto, etc) it's speed varies with the engine speed. Thanks.

I have a little experience with this headset but it was my old radio picking up static, my current one, nothing, 5x5 at all times. I'll take your question and ask it to MicroAvionics as they will have a better technical answer for you.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 Eddie from MicroAvionics here. It very much depends on the radio and headset. Foe example, Kenwood radio seem good, but some Baofeng are not good. So we counter this by using heavily shielded cables, and we also fit ferrite as a backup. So in short, you should be fine with the PM-100.

@@microavionicsukltd702 hey guys! I have the pm-100. Go pro lead out and yeasu 250l and I’m starting to get some interference. Seems to be related to one or all of the following. My go pro, external charger for go pro, strobe, and battery in heated gloves.... have you heard of others having issues having issues with using their go pro or their external charger for their go pro.... any suggestions? I was hoping to vlog while using my yeasu but the interface makes it not very usable. Thanks!

I don't know how to do that sorry. I've been happy with a wired connection as its one less this to fail. The PM100 has been brilliant over the past nearly 5 years of use with both PMR and Airband raidos. I hope you have some luck with connecting it to a Bluetooth Airband radio.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 Was just assuming it being a bluetooth headset that one would be able to connect it as such. I use a cable also and dont mind it - just be more convenient when taking off the helmet with no calbes. I purchased the Radio with bluetooth for that reason and almost double the price and now finding it hard to get a bluetooth option for paramotoring

It's really simple, you literally just connect the 2 PM100 headsets together and make sure dip switch 3 is on. I did make a video a while back where I'm a tandem passenger, have a look through the content. If you struggle, message back here.

Good morning from Oz Giles . I’ve been one of your Subscribers for a couple of years now .. I’m Also a Micro Avionics headset user .. and have enjoyed your vlogs on their products .. I’m having trouble though , sourcing product / Parts support down under is proving difficult .. It’s time I replaced my mic wind socks and Ear defenders on both Helmets . I noticed you and PAUL are using a mic sock with the Micro Avionics logo on them ide like to get my hands on some mate ? My headsets are using the older Peltor Optime 11 models .

With Dip switch 3 on, everyone hears everything. So if you are playing music, they will hear it also.

Hi Aidan, the only reason I changed was it was 4 years old and was looking a bit battered. I'd read somewhere that flying helmets should be changed every 4 years as the foam starts to harden and break down. That was all. Unfortunately they don't make the Scarab any more. I hope that helps.

Hi. I've been watching your sub 70 videos. I have an icaro lid with the P100 fitted. I'm hoping you can answer a mic/go pro question for me. I'm setup with a PTT on the left can. If I use the output lead to my go pro does it only pick up when im pressing the PTT button or does the go pro pick up the whole time? Also, I often feed a power bank from my inside pocket to ensure battery life in the cold. Ever tried it or not a problem for you?

I hope you enjoy the Sub70 videos. If you turn dip switch 3 on, the feed is continuous. The sidetone feeds the output to the GP. I do run a backup battery, but unfortunately my GP7 won't charge while recording, so I just manage the recording to relevant parts of the flight. Its not that cold in the UK so no issues. On that side. I hope that helps.

@@moto-thug yes, I wouldn't call it a feature, more of an annoyance. I keep my PG 3+ for the only reason it will charge and record continuously.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 im going to have to check this. I thought the gp mic dongle excepted a power input and the gp would charge whilst recording. Unfortunately all my gear is in Sth Wales and im on lockdown in Manchester

@@moto-thug, yes the adapter will accept power but the GP 6, 7 and 8 won't charge whilst recording. You can Google it.. I did loads of research for my RAFA40 flights as the legs were all long, we needed to keep the camera charged. GP actually state it on their website queries.

Hello Giles.. I have the same setup. How do you find the engine noise suppression? My engine noise seems to be very loud as compared to the ear cups on my old helmet. Do you know if there are any 'upgrades' to improve engine noise suppression? Thanks for the video..

Is that on the ear cups, as in passive noise suppression, or the recorded volume level?

When you say "engine noise" are you referring to the noise the spark makes? I have an older Lynx set-up and am flying a Fresh Breeze Monster (Hirth F-33) and I get a lot of noise. It is the radio picking up the spark...as the RPM increases/decreases, so does the "buzzing" the radio/head set picks up.

@@stone8597 No, not electrical noise. Loud noise made by the prop and engine. I don't feel the ear cups suppress the prop noise very well at all.

I have my cell phone connected via blue tooth. The audio is great but the only way i can hear my side of the conversation on the gopro footage is if I press the PTT when I'm talking. Is there is way to talk hands free while on my cell phone? Thanks!

@@GolfFoxtrot22 If you look at the online manual for the blue tooth version, where it talks about the 12 switches, it mentions a blue switch that controls side tone, but I can't find a blue switch anywhere.

Dip switch 3 is side tone, but it's permanently on. It's how I vlog.

Hi Treasuremonk, I used extra strips of the 3M grey sticky foam on the outer edges. I've made mine a breakaway mount with velco.

Golf Foxtrot 22 no it ok I got the jist it was helpful I have the PM100 and never did understand what all the switches did. I have the two radio setup. But it’s not Bluetooth.
