From my own gameplay and also some analysis by the Chinese community I've read, there appear to be four main storylines each related to the three ghosts you've encountered and the old story of that Yip and Hon guy. And apparently, they are all related. Thought it was interesting so kinda want to share it, though I must say the storytelling wasn't clear enough and by the looks of the not so detailed English translation and lack of subtitle/translations it's a shame that most of the actual storyline most definitely will not be caught on by and is not fully conveyed to English players. *Spoiler alert* So starting from the oldest to the newest in the timeline: 1. Story of Yip, black ritual and his friend Hon: Basically Yip was a good guy who fell in love with a famous brothel woman, who unfortunately died. This caused him to dwell into forbidden black rituals and tried to resurrect her, which was what caused thousands to suddenly die in the town he lived. He disappeared and his notes got passed on to his friend Hon who latter succeeded in understanding them. Hon then passed down the black rituals to his descendants. 2. The insanely skilled dentist, his dead wife and the daughter who was found by the police: Basically the dentist was a descendant of Hon who discovered that he could use the black rituals for his career. What does he do? Hee pulls out the teeth from his wife's mouth and regrows them using the black rituals, and then replants the teeth into his patients (that's why his elderly patients praised him for giving them dentures that felt like real teeth). Eventually, his wife either couldn't take it anymore and killed herself, or she probably died from being weakened and exhausted by the repeated ritual. The dentist fled once he found his wife dead and abandoned their daughter. The ghost of the wife couldn't pass on because she was still worried about her daughter, so she stayed and cooked meals for her daughter (the police story of finding the girl with the female corpse with no teeth). Once the police discovered the girl, they sent her an orphanage and later probably went into foster care. Once the little girl grew up she moved to the room next to her original home to stay close to her mother's ghost. The little girl is the old granny you meet at the beginning (you can discover this by the granny's dialogue). The mother's ghost is what was possessing Kathy. 3. The puppeteer, his Chinese opera singer wife, and what happened to them: The puppeteer and his Chinese opera singer wife both worked in the same......band? Anyway, they loved each other very much and are very faithful to each other. The puppeteer gave his wife a hairpin which she cherished very much. However, she lost her hairpin one day and wrote on a message board (which unfortunately was completely untranslated for whatever reason). On it, she stated how important it is to her and that anyone who finds it and returns it to her will be heavily rewarded. From other pieces of clues that you can find, it is implied that the leader of the band likes her, hates that she has a husband so prosecuted him by discontinuing his puppet show, and it the one who found her hairpin. It's not clear what the leader asked from her as a reward for finding her hairpin, but eventually, whatever happened between them lead to her death by suicide later on. Which broke the puppeteer's heart. The heartbroken puppeteer then went on to dismember her body and created that spider ghost woman that chased you through that section. Apparently, there is a photo you can find, that will reveal that the puppeteer is related to the dentist (implied to be brothers). Meaning that the puppeteer was also a descendant of Hon and possessed the knowledge to the black rituals, which is what he used to revive his dead wife. 4. The ghost in the red dress, the little ghost girl and Ghostface (the lady calling you from the phone): The ghost in red dress was a single mother who had two daughters. The younger one was a sickly child. For whatever reason, the mother decided to kill herself while dressing in complete red, which in Chinese/some Asian culture doing so will turn you into a vengeful spirit after you die (and then as a vengeful spirit you can kill the ones who wronged you). After she killed herself, worrying about her sick young daughter, she took her with her (the younger daughter was unconscious then died in the hospital). There are documents in-game that states that the mother sent her eldest daughter to a trusted friend before she committed suicide. A person whom she met while in the orphanage/foster system during her youth. Ghostface has the exact same first name with the eldest daughter of the red dress ghost, meaning that she IS the eldest daughter who was sent away. But she has a different last name, which she changed upon her adoption by her mother's trusted friend. The last name she currently uses is the same as both the dentist and the puppeteer. And judging by how her birth mother met her adoptive mother? Her adoptive mother is the dentist's daughter, who is the granny that you've met (whom Ghostface introduced and asked you to find in the first place). This is also why the granny shows up in the weird door dimension and why in the ending video Kathy tries to warn you about her. The pair from the beginning was setting you up to complete their own goal. 5. Which brings us to their main motive and goal. Both of them lost people dear to them so they probably wanted to perform the black rituals to be reunited with their loved ones, which requires human sacrifices to be made (i.e., our protagonist and his poor colleagues). Ghostface because she does not have proper lineage (Hon's bloodline), so it is implied that performing the black rituals has done damage to her spirit and health. And in combination with the cursed cam + that weird dimension at the end, they wanted to create a dimension that allows them to be reunited with their deceased loved ones and also be free of bodily pain. In the end, they've succeeded with the help of the unknowing protagonist. Basically, these are some explanation and theories provided by in-game materials and online discussions. Seriously though, the English version is lacking A LOT OF translations for crucial in-game materials imo :/ Hope these help explain and understand some backstory and what was happening in the game.

The next line suggests how it looks. "Although it's not valuable in terms of price," "it means a lot for me," "So if somebody found it, please contact me," And basically thank you and stuffs the name of the creeper who just chased you, and her occupancy.

Wow, I must say as a Hong Konger, watching this game is like a Taiwanese playing Detention/ Devotion because of the nostalgic and authentic elements they put into the game, not to mention the language they use in the game (Cantonese), it scared me even more seeing my everyday surroundings mixed with horror stuff, such details, thank you for playing the game, Gab, you have a high diversity in choosing horror games in your channel, I love it. (I hope you can still see it, I am late commenting this haha I will keep up soon~) btw the translation at 45:14 is 'Don't ask me for (lending)money, pens or lighter.' '

I think one of the reasons Asian horror is so effective is because so much of it seems *very* claustrophobic with the narrow alleys and small apartments. The devs did such a good job with lighting and that grungy feeling of back alleys in big cities.

I got a double spook with Kathy. I thought she was going to turn into a necromorph and then when she got dragged away at mach speed I was wondering what could possibly do that.

So, spoiler. I read someone actually tried to figure the story line of this game out and i agreed with what they said so i will post it here. The whole thing starts in the past, there is a girl with surname "Cheung" and a guy with surname "Yip" fell in love with each other. But Cheung had a rich suitor wanna marry her. Cheung's "master" (or in this case, the proper word would be "procuress") forced her to marry him. But Cheung didn't want to but Yip was away and hadn't came back yet so Cheung decided to kill herself. Yip later knew that Cheung was dead, he decided to bring her back to life by casting some dark spell/magic. But in order for the spell to work, he had to sacrifice many lives. That's why a whole village because of the spell. Yip got scared and ran away. Later, the spell instruction was given to a friend of Yip. This friend didn't perform the spell but he passed it on to his descendants. His descendants are the dentist in the first story (Who lived in the walled city) and the puppet master in the second story (The one that made the spider puppet) So now we have to learn more about the 3 cases in the game Case 1: The dentist (who lived in the walled city) had a special remedy that could make teeth grow back. So he removed his wife's teeth, gave them to his patients (That's why they said those look like real teeth), then use the remedy on his wife. But later, his wife's face deformed because of using that remedy too much. She's dead and the dentist ran away, leaving behind their daughter. Their daughter is Snow, was sent to an orphanage. Later, when she grew up, she always comeback to her old home. So there's a big chance the Granny at the present day is Snow. And since Snow is the daughter of the dentist, she also knows about the spell that could revive the dead Case 2: The puppet master fell in love with Ling, a famous Chinese Opera performer. They married and moved it together. The puppet master gave Ling a hairpin. The troupe master also fell in love with Ling, he was jealous of the puppet master and tried many things to get Ling's attention. Later, she lost her hairpin, it was the troupe master that stole it. For some unknown reasons, Ling jumped to her death. The puppet master was too sad, he decided to brought Ling corpse home and gave her a "new" body. He also made the spider puppet to guard Ling's spirit while he was still trying to make Ling's new body. Sadly, he was arrested before he could finish it. Case 3: A woman who raised 2 DAUGHTERS by herself (Remember that she has 2 DAUGHTERS). The little one loved candy but she had diabetes (The insulin syringe in her room). Before she jumped to her death (for some unknown reasons), she sent her older daughter to a friend that she made during her time in THE ORPHANAGE. So when you compare the picture in the room of the Granny from the walled city in the first case and the picture in the room of the ghost woman in this case, we can see they are the same pic. So we can tell the ghost woman from this case and the Granny are friends from the same orphanage, and the Granny is currently looking after the older daughter of the ghost woman. => So who is the older daughter? That's right, it's Ghost Face. Ghost Face really want to revive her mother and her younger sister, so she need to help of the Granny/Snow, the one who knows about the spell that can revive the dead. But sacrificing thoundsands of lives was too much for them, they decided to uses the dimension that the cursed camcorder created as the power source for the spell

39:02, that seems to be referring to the "Slit Mouth Woman" 39:15, definitely a Lovecraft reference! 39:43,I think that's a reference to a Japanese Horror movie about a serial killer(forgot the title though)

I quite enjoyed this one! Had some really unique moments and the environments were pretty good. I'm really glad you took a lot of interest in the cultural stuff - most people find our opera strange and the singing annoying. It got a little tedious towards the end but overall it's a good game.

This is my favourite chinese game so far, i haven't play it myself, cause i dont have the nerve to do so but i watch other youtuber play it already. I'm really glad Gab you are playing this cause it's like a different aspect than what i see. This was SO good! The doll ghost was especially terrifying jfc. Just the way it walked and how the face opened up, yikes forever. D: The puzzles and environments were awesome, I especially hated (loved) the bit with the roller coaster tracks and ferris wheel.. As someone who's afraid of heights that was a big fucking nope from me lol. Also, I had just seen a Friends meme and was singing Smelly Cat in my head when I suddenly heard you sing it and was very confused for a moment haha. XD

I’m Chinese, the first story line is based on a real story that happened in Hong Kong, apparently a mother died for a long time but her daughter kept living after her death for a long time and according to the daughter, her mother “gets up to cook for her” every day even though she is dead. No one believed her, however she did survive a long while after her mom died.

The worker tag you found during the second scene(crawling lady) in the vent was the person that filmed the clip you watched in the office. He was then found dead in the next room you went in.

Towards the end of the game "I can see the light the light"

Say Gab, I had similar issues trialling OBS with game recording and streaming. Sometimes it's a Windows problem with how it manages multiple programs on the processor cores. Too low a game priority can increase lag just like with too low the OBS priority. Dedicating specific cores to the game and to OBS, separate cores, could reduce lag. Ultimately you might have to do some practice streams while recording computer stats and performance in the background (I think windows administrative tools has something that can automate this). Then you can use this to identify any processing bottlenecks that are causing the lag.

I feel like its so rare for me to find a Chinese video game where there is Cantonese speaking as the main language. This is amazing!
