I was in Tokyo, Japan visiting family when the 2011 Tohōku earthquake/tsunami hit, and I was listening to this. My brother worked in Meguro and I was out for a walk. I felt the earth move beneath me and I fell down, but I attributed it to drinking a bit too much the night before. Until I saw people pouring out of buildings and helicopters flying over head. I’ll always associate this song with that moment in my life.

Love that “wall of sound” at the end. This song definitely requires headphones to appreciate all of the subtleties.

Only I find this video music fascinating? It's like I know what will happen next but I still stare at this pair, and everything, it's so perfectly recorded.

As well as sounding like NIN, some the vocals remind me of Maynard James Keenan. Maybe this is what Tapeworm sound like?

I feel the world fall from the inside It's coming down My beating pulse crawls to a strange height Please calm it down I need a strong pull from your little lies Or I'm going down 'Cause I built it all up from the inside And you burned it down 'Cause when you took your love away You let go I feel the world fall from the inside It's coming down Although I miss you I'll never say I do Bleed like the rain that's falling Cut me through and through I'd seen it all hiding in plain sight And I held it down But I'll give you all that you deserve tonight 'Cause you earned it when you burned me down 'Cause when you took your love away You let go I feel the world fall from the inside It's coming down Although I miss you I would never ever say I do Bleed like the rain Like the rain that falls upon my skin Then you just gave our love away You just let go Then you just gave our love away You just let go (You just let go, you just let go) Bleed like the rain that falls upon my skin (Bleed like the rain that falls upon my skin)

2019. I love the everliving crap out of this band but, yeah, they were in a weird place at this point. Very NIN and bungle. Still awesome 👏
@fabiankeller8314 жыл бұрын
I can only disagree as hard as possible :D Love the living heck out of every single song they have and this here is definitely in my top 5 and not a "weird" one. Rhythmically it might even be one of their most complex ones even though it's straight 5/4 and pretty slow for TDEP standards.

Kind of hard to have a lot of production value, artistic consultation, graphics/effects/post-production, writing, etc. when you're in a band that only sells like 10,000 copies of each album, and you only release an album every couple of years. This means that from album sales alone, you're talking about no more than say, $100k in royalties in the year that you release an album (a high/generous estimate), which must then be split 5 ways between band members. Tiny sums of royalties trickle in over time for each play on the radio/etc., but that's literally pennies per day for a band like this who has relatively low exposure. Bands like DEP are the definition of "underground", and we're lucky enough to have heard of them, and if we were REALLY lucky, we would have been able to align our schedules to actually see them live before they retired. This is why you need to go see the bands you like at a live show, and most importantly buy merch at their merch tables! A lot of these underground type bands make more money from touring than they do off of raw album sales, and they need the holy trinity of album sales, touring, and merch JUST to survive, let alone make a livable wage.
