I like this way of doing things. Horses on a large amount of grazing will not want to be separate from the herd to get water and will either not drink or gallop together thinking it's funny and possibly injure themselves especially yearlings. It's especially difficult if you are looking after someone elses horses . Doing it this way means you train them at the same time they get enough water they don't kick each other or injure each other as much if at all. I've done this for years with my own horses and others in large herds and I had happy confident well behaved horses and its quicker once you know what you are doing. Horses all in the same field with different difficult owners who train differently or don't train at all often behave badly and won't let less dominant horses near the water and they do kick and charge or refuse to be caught, they push through the gate or silly people let them out because they are frightend of horses and shouldn't probably have one. Parelli horses don't do this and life is much easier. It's also fun and funny to watch them. My older horses come in if they take ages but that's horses for you.

I started training my horse how to wait when I give her oats twice a day, and she has learned very quickly she needs to wait until I tell her its ok to eat. I have a polite horse at feeding time, yay.

May I ask why these horses don't have free access to water? Would seem easier to just have it free choice then to have to take them all down like that all the time.

Wild horses don't always have 24/7 access to water... Just saying, don't know how having a specific watering time is cruel, wild horses surely travel to their watering hole at a certain time of day.

Wouldn't that be much easier to have the horses have access to water 24/7 so you don't have to deal with them all the time. Now that would be for the lazy people. Put food and water once a day so horses can get access to them all day so you don't have to be there all the time.

The smart one in that herd is you Pat. For a white man, you have a head full of good sense. I have tried a thing or two that I saw here on You Tube. Every time I use the lessons I see here, my horse improves. You have a gift my man. I like the way one thing leads to another. Alabama Bob...
