Kitty talks about their family's experience with OCD. Mental health has had an immense impact on Kitty and Daniel Nabarro’s lives as their daughter first displayed OCD symptoms at the age of eight but wasn't diagnosed until well into her late teens precisely because there was a lack of information about children’s mental health conditions at that time. As a result of their experiences, they got involved in OCD Action and then set up Nip in the Bud to help support children with a variety of conditions.

This made me emotional, I am now an adult but have been diagnosed at 12. My parents had no idea what to do, my mom was a great support.

Most people will find that that these treatments are effective for them and help them to get their lives back on track. If you get in touch with these charities they can help. Research DOES show that the shorter amount of time between the onset of behaviors and ERP treatment, the better the results. We need to teach that these behaviors aren't ok, and that families shouldn't accommodate to make things easier in the home. Confronting severe anxieties is the only way to overcome them.

As somebody w that’s one of the most annoying things I’ve had to learn. I’ve tried exposure therapy a few times and it’s been one of the only things that’s worked for me. But it’s so hard to even start, I haven’t continued with it /: But hopefully soon, I want to get better of course
