My Nana used to say “Now you’re cooking with gas!” It’s one of the maybe dozen pleasant memories I have of her. I’m 57 and I thought mine was the last generation to hear that phrase from an older relative. I’m so ticked to hear you use it. “Knitted Jack Whitehall doll, the John Bobbitt version. Get yours today!” 😁 I love your Mum’s Christmas sweater (Yes I’m American). I love penguins. I’ve never seen a penguin festooned Fair Isle sweater. I must find one! You’re Mum’s Boxing Day party “digging to China”. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who spent social events with my Mom, standing by helpless as she she came out with some “gem” of a comment that sent my nervous system pinging with a sick-feeling pulse. I think one of the worst was when she blithely shared with a Catholic priest of our acquaintance that one of her grandmothers used to self-abort.
