School may be out for summer but we are keeping up with the physical curriculum. Elin is trying a Leckey MyWay walker, "un upright movement device" from Leckey: www.leckey.com...
She is using a different walker in school, and at home for the summer holidays, but fingers crossed there is budget to buy this for school. As it is a harness design it can be readjusted for children of different sizes with very little difficulty. Having tried a variety of mobility aids and walkers this does feel really different, in a very good way.

I couldn’t see her because I’m blind. However I could hear the excitement in her voice. I can’t walk but I am very happy for her.

Hi Jessica, yes Elin is vocal when excited and it's so lovely to hear. She's gone from hating standing and walking to being really proud of herself and loving it.

She’s such a Warrior! I didn’t know she had the ability too walk but I’m glad she’s doing great! I learned too walk at the age of 8 it was a process but so worth it. She is a very lucky girl, this is so amazing! 💚

She's doing so well with the walker now. I remember the first time we tried, oh boy she got angry 😂. We have a hysterical photograph of her angry face from that.

@@ParentXP This is fantastic! I love the smiles on her face -I've seen standing frames (including wheeled standers), wheeled walkers (rollators which are pulled behind the person, much like this, but without the 'harness') and push along walkers, but this is new to me. It's fantastic how much equipment is improving. I hope Elin continues to enjoy the chance to walk and have some independent movement. Weight-bearing is good for bone strength too (having developed osteoporosis and ostroporotic fractures the length of my spine myself), I'd have appreciated the chance of having at least a standing frame or standing wheelchair, to enable me to weight-bear. I've seen a few ( and varied types ) of walkers and ( what I'll, for now, call wheelers ) being used at work, over the last 3 years but I've never seen how they get into them before. Thanks

That walker is still in use at school, by Elin and several other students. It was a great investment for them.

May i ask - if Elie used this MyWay walker some time or it wasn't right thing for her ? My son has problem with balance, has quadru CP and i think about this walker, if it would be good for him

She used it for quite some time, as do other children in her class/school. This design is really easy to adjust the size for each user. She would still be using it if it wasn't for her dislocated hip. I think it is the most thought through design for a walker I've seen (I'm no expert but out of the 5 or so she's tried it's lightyears ahead.

Usually equipment has to be approved by the physical therapist and a prescription needs to be written! Hopefully insurance would cover it for them.

It's by firefly leckey. Here school had to fundraise for it, they aren't cheap.

She wasn't a big fan of standers and walkers when younger. She likes this walker and was getting really good with it but now her hip is out of socket and she's in pain so she's not using the walker at the moment.

Rehan, the company that sells these is called Leckey and the walker is called MyWay. This is a link to their website. So you know, we didn't buy this, the school did, and they had to do some fundraising to be able to do it so I expect they are quite expensive. www.leckey.com/products/myway

Faizan, I don't actually know, sorry. The company that makes these is Leckey but they are expensive pieces of equipment. The school did some fundraising to be able to get it and it's shared between Elin and a number of other pupils.
