My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.
Links below to Amazon are affiliate links - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over five years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: www.jayswanson.me/gear
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off KZfaq? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
Thanks for watching!

I stay in the 7th when I’m in Paris. It’s an easy metro ride or walk to wherever I want to go. There is a closer grocery, rue cler is an easy place to pick up something to eat. Went up the Eiffel Tower once in 2010. It was perfect and no desire to go up again. It was dark and drizzling in late October. Walked from hotel and right up to ticket booth and immediately onto elevator. Now I just enjoy the tower from a distance. Also so easy to find hotel being able to see the Eiffel Tower from everywhere. I just work my way back. Love love Paris. I’m in my 70,s and stop in Paris every trip. Last fall I was there twice. and really enjoy these videos. Thank you.

Just a note to say I miss your old format. I liked actually getting to know who Jay Swanson actually is on any given day. Your videos felt much more personal. I like hearing about future plans & aspirations as well as current work, the struggle to find life/work balance -- the things many of us go through, but with your unique perspective. Other than Paris In My Pocket, what are you working on? Are you still writing? Are you still engaged in your journey of self discovery?

French breakfast consist a croissant and a glass of wine!!!! Just spent 3 weeks in Paris and 1week in London and 1 week ibiza. We did not have breakfast during the trip but only drink wine and cocktails. Dinner at Michelin restaurants. They are not expensive as Michelin in the US and they are really good at a fraction of price to pay a meal for 2. Love the foods. That's why we travel, just for food!!!!

We went up the Eiffel Tower in September 2021 when tourism had just opened back up and it was fantastic. Really our whole trip was fantastic because there were so few tourists. Seems like forever ago.

25 years ago in Paris there was, like ONE sushi place in the 1st, and 2 Mexican restaurants scattered around that were even close to authentic because the French palette didn't like "spicy". Even the Indian places were mild. Fast-forward to today and the availability of diverse AND authentic food is amazing.

Hello 👋🏽 I visited Paris in 2017, I had asked my hotel if it was safe to go to the Eiffel Tower around 11pm he said no, two young ladies (back then 😂) should not be around there at those times. I did appreciate the advice.

Visiting the Effiel Tower once was enough for me in a lifetime. I'm content with enjoying the view either on line 6 crossing the Seine or from the Champ de Mars or Jardin de Trocadéro. Been loving the 20 in 20 series just to see all the unique places to go off the beaten path next time I'm there. Merci.
