It's so cool that you visited Paris! I am glad that you overall liked it. Being French yet critical of my own culture and of Paris where I lived in my youth, I think it is both beautiful and frustrating. Things don't work very well, it has become quite messy and dirty, people can be grumpy and service terrible, but it is undeniable that the city in itself is worth visiting anyway, and if you manage to create your own cosy romantic bubble, it can be the perfect couple getaway. Things to keep in mind while in Paris : - it's pretty unsafe, especially for women. It seems counterintuitive for a fashion capital, but there's an unspoken rule of dressing down in public transportation in order to avoid unwanted attention. If you wondered why so many French women don't apply makeup, that's one reason. - it can be either super gay friendly or very homophobic depending on the area, so pay attention to your surroundings at all times even during the day! - tourist scams, such as mediocre restaurants near tourist attractions are sadly very common. As much as French gastronomy is renowned, knowing where to go to eat is crucial for that reason. The least touristy the place, the better your chances to find a nice restaurant. Sorry you had a bad experience, it is however not unheard of these days. - nightlife sucks in contemporary Paris. There is no other way to put it, sorry! Paris nights' reputation was made famous in the post-war era especially in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and up to the 90s we even enjoyed several classy lesbian clubs at the same time, but that isn't the case any longer. Even for straight people, nightlife is one of the most boring of any big Western capital city. People invite each other at home or go party in Berlin, for the most savvy ones ;-) [Parisians typically LOVE Berlin]. On a positive note, Paris is unique if you really appreciate classical arts, architecture, French gastronomy, museums, or just strolling in a historic city. Also, you might know there was a thriving lesbian scene about a hundred years ago in Paris, in the same way Berlin was a gay haven. Check out American socialite Natalie Clifford Barney's biography and the many ladies who gravitated around her literary salons, including Colette, Liane de Pougy or Gertrude Stein. It is very unique.

The question was, is Paris overrated or does it fit the expectations - especially by foreigners and the picture they may have in mind about Paris. This picture fits only for a very small part of the city, but fits for almost every more rural city, town or village in France. Seems, I triggered some grumpy cat...

@@MlleNnCo Paris is so bad and violent for women. It's not a romantic city, you can't wear a dress or skirt without being followed, spat on, harrassed and assaulted. And that's not even about your dress, if you are yound and attractive you're doomed. You have to be careful around uber drivers, and be super fast at shutting the heavy doors of the old buildings before a man comes in after you. Let's not even talk about coming home by yourself. Et je suis Française. Donc c'est pas du bashing. Paris est devenue une poubelle de part sa fréquentation, n'en déplaise aux faux-culs qui adorent faire des vidéos avec de l'accordéon alors que la musique qu'on entend en idf c'est le rap. Le tout en faisant des zooms sur l'architecture pour ne pas montrer la rue. Pour sortir c'est la merde, bonne chance si vous voulez aller danser et faire la fête, vous allez vous en prendre plein la gueule. Les filles, allez habitez à Londres, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Vienne. Vous revivrez.
