The beautiful houses at 145 rue la Fayette, 29 rue Quincampoix, and 44 rue d'Aboukir have one thing in common: they're fake. Why does Paris have so many fake façades and what hides behind them? I went on a quest to find out more...

So what Tim is saying is it would be really easy for you to build your supervillain-style underground bunker in Paris. You'd just have to preserve the original building's facade, and everyone would assume it's just another ventilation shaft.

Bringing them to your country so they become second class citizens who perform low paid jobs and urging them to learn French and forget their native language, letting them forget their native culture = the biggest legal racist system. It would be better if you give Paris to those people and make Arabic the first language and Islam state religion. I'm all in for that. Because what you French are doing is very racist.

I've seen the one next to Centre Pompidou and I just thought it was some weird ending of the buildings where they'd put technical facilities and therefore didn't build windows, as they are more expensive. Or what you sometimes see in cities: where one building has been demolished in between two other buildings, exposing the blind facades. Just thought they wanted to make that look nicer like street art. This is a waaaaay cooler explanation.

It’d be interesting to see the ventilation structures designed in such a way as to be aesthetically pleasing, but not while trying to fake being a typical historical building for the neighborhood. The ventilation buildings in and around NYC tend to be quite obvious (if you know what to look for), but also somewhat ugly.

i imagine you'd want to have massive walls around ventilation shafts anyways, regardless of trying to make it fit in the neighborhood or not. i had an idea of surrounding the shaft with guard rails and trees and stuff, so it's basically a park where you can peek into the subway trains passing underneath, but i'd also bet that place would quickly get plastered with... at the very least, certain helpline numbers

@MrTruboy Actually it isn't. In this case facade means "front of a building". In this vid they're all fake, but a facade doesn't have to be. So he's 100% correct.
@SparklingDiva1111
@SparklingDiva1111 4 жыл бұрын
@MrTruboy If you wish to believe that... But a facade is just a front, and that doesn't have to be fake. When it's about a person's behaviour/personality it is fake, when about a building not necessarily. So when you say "The facade is made of brick" it means the front of the house is made of brick, NOT that it's fake. Hence, NOT redundant. The man knows his language.

i live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and there are several of these fake building fronts, usually in art nouveau or art deco style, that conceal electrical substations and water pumps. The most notable is Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes (1884) that has been voted one of the most beautiful and beloved buildings in the city

We used to have fake facades on old ratty buildings in town that hid the rotten, decaying, falling apart inner structures that were never maintained correctly. But they kept the exterior up with windows with shades and curtains, flower pots with fake flowers in the windows, making it appear as though the buildings were occupied. Then in the late '80s and early '90s, they tore down these buildings and began constructing new apartments for the colleges and hospital staff and the downtown working professionals. The new buildings are modern designs - but they look great and brighten up our downtown.

I saw a building in Brooklyn, NY that looked like a small cathedral, only the windows were all louvered. I later heard that it was a vent, but there is also a "brownstone" (4 or 5 story townhouse) in Manhattan that's really some kind of electrical substation for the subway system. I'll bet there are buildings like this in most cities.

@ze_rubenator
@ze_rubenator 4 жыл бұрын
@Babyhowdy233 Well then, since you're so interested let me tell you about my love life in way too much detail. I only have one ex and she's perfectly nice and I don't have anything against her. But we were awkward teens, both each other's first kiss and everything, so mistakes were made. It was good between us for a while, then I started to realise her parents hated me, which had a hand in making things uncomfortable. They'd be nice to my face, but whenever she was alone with them she'd come to me afterwards crying because they'd said horrible things about me. She never went into detail, probably because she didn't want to hurt me. Additionally, she had (understandably) real problems dealing with my depression, bestowed upon me by the bullies I had to endure a few years prior. In the end it didn't work out and it all culminated in an extremely uncomfortable and funnysad breakup. Sad for me (and by proximity her), funny for everyone else at school. Oh well. I'm not going into details on this one. I've been together with my current girlfriend for 6 years, which sounds insane now that I say it out loud. She's not really relevant since she's not an ex. About my original comment, I just thought the idea of an ex being a "fake facade of Paris" to be kind of funny. What's the facade? Does she wear a lot of make-up? Is her personality fake? Is she really French or does she just live there? Who knows! *TL;DR* Only the last paragraph is relevant. I see no reason why anyone would be interested in the rest.
