Wow did not expect you guys to watch this movie, I wish many people in the north also to watch this movie. Small town kids growing up the 1990s have experienced some part on this in their colleges. Just because you idolize Dr BR Ambedkar does not automatically mean you are a troublemaker. the casual casteism of the principal. This is a Masterpiece and a very important movie.

Whichever scenes you didn't understand, it's just caste-based oppression. The lead belongs to a lower caste and the girl is from higher so her close associates trying to belittle him and the intention is not just to protect her but their ego how a low caste guy can approach a higher caste. This movie mainly portrays how the lower caste people are subjected to continuous harassment.

Dr. B R Ambedkar, we call him Baba Sahib, he is the founding father of Modern India, he is a source of inspiration in many ways. He Advocated for equal rights for women, worked for labourer, Reserve bank of India is based on his idea , Established Central Technical power system , He set up irrigation and Navigation systems,he was instrumental in bringing about several labour reforms, any many more, He has done all these things for the same people who refuse to Cut his hair, People have refused to give water to drink. Just because because he was from a Lower caste . I suggest Achara to Read more about social reformers of our country like Ambedkar , Periyar and Jyothi bhai Phule. In the last decade many movies wer made about Dalit Bahujan identity. By knowing our history u could understand the nuances in those art. Thank u Jai Bhim

Glad that u have made a better choice. It is one of the masterpieces of tamil cinema. To grasp the entire plot of the movie, u must know abt the fabric of Indian society. Most of the foreigners know abt the discrimination based on religion as it is prevailing across the world. A very few people know abt the discrimination based on caste. This gives rise to another important question : What is caste?. To understand caste, one needs to look into the so-called indian epics supporting and firmly establishing this abstract thing - caste. In hinduism, people are divided into 4 grps like brahmins presiding over pujas( temple priests) and who were only allowed to get education, kshatriyas who were destined to rule kingdoms, vaishyas who were traders, and farmers and finally shudras whose job is to serve the other three divisions and shudras includes barbers, cobblers, etc., shudras were not permitted to get education or any other privileges as the other 3 grps of people. A shudra can never be either one of these three grps of people even if he has increased his financial status like the rest. So caste is something a person is labelled with when he is born. In hinduism, they call this ugly hierarchy as varna system. Varna is sanskrit word with its meaning "colors". Each colour was assigned to the grp in the hierarchy. Brahmins were given white as they were deemed pure and sacred by birth. Red to kshatriyas, green to vaishyas and black to shudras implying they are demons. The above mentioned things will give a hint abt caste. The casteism itself is the testimony to the lot of religious conversions in India as these shudras in hinduism can never be acknowledged. In this movie, the protagonist is someone hailing from low caste (a shudra) and the female lead is from higher caste. This movie explored the repercussions of casteism and how it affects someone who had been ignored by society trying to get education to become the lawyer. The director made a reference to Dr. B.r. ambedhkar who was also a shudra and is known as Father of Indian constitution. The protagonist aspires to become a layer like ambhedkar who not only fought for the rights of low caste people but also set up some priviliges for them to ascend to the higher position in society. The ending of the film is the ultimate scene of the entire movie. The director conveyed the entire message of the film thru that one shot. After this movie had released, this created some noteworthy discissions and debates on casteism in Tamilnadu. Tamil film industry is the only film industry exploring the topic in main stream platform for the past 6 to 7 yrs. This revolution happened because of the advent of film makers from low caste background and they started making films throwing limelight on this issue.

The director Mari Selvaraj is one of those unique voices in tamil cinema who makes some of the boldest movies today. They are difficult watches but great movies with great messages. 'Pariyerum Perumal', 'Karnan' and 'Maamannan'

He was the first minister of law and justice. He was the reason for most of the people from lower caste attending schools and colleges. He is also a feminist who made the Hindu code bill which is progressive and allowed women to study and have a share in the property of the parents.

Commenting without having seen your reaction, because I haven't seen the movie. The director also made Karnan which was technically very impressive, but I didn't care that much for it for some reason. So I am heistant about watching this one also because I've always had the feeling that it's gonna be very dark and so not really my thing. Plus as I was reading an article about Karnan they mentioned that the dog meets a "gruesome end" in this movie so it puts me off even more 😬
