"Park Host" calls cops on me because my car hood is up; Sturdivant Park, Coquille, Oregon

Natchitoches vs. Travis Heinze

Natchitoches vs. Travis Heinze

6 жыл бұрын

The video is about a man named Travis Heinze who got a ticket from a park host for working on his car in a park.
The park host, who lives in the park and works for the Coquille Police Department, saw Travis’s car hood up and approached him. The park host told Travis that he is not allowed to work on his car in the park and called the police.
The police officer who arrived at the scene cited Travis for violating a municipal code that prohibits repairing or servicing a vehicle except for repairs necessitated by an emergency. Travis argued that he was not working on his car and that he only had the hood up because he needed to cook a chicken. However, the police officer did not believe him and gave him a ticket anyway.
The ticket states that Travis violated municipal code 10.1 two point zero four zero, which prohibits parking in a way that is prohibited. The officer explained to Travis that this means that he cannot park and work on his car, even if the car is not running. Travis argued that he was not working on his car, but the officer did not believe him.
Travis also argued that he should not be getting a ticket because he was going to cook his chicken in the park, but the officer told him that cooking is also not allowed in the parking lot. Travis was confused about the rules and regulations of the park, and he did not understand why he was getting a ticket.
I may have put the videos out of order at 10:23.
3:18 Police arrive and talk to me
3:30 "I got my city manager looking at it"
8:50 I tell the cop to write me a ticket
10:23 to 14:25 section should be after 14:25 to 17:49
14:25 Cop walks back to give me the citation
17:30 "you can't cook in the parking lot"
Battery died at 17:49
17:49 Trevor Sanne is the cop who wrote me a ticket: Municipal Citation for "prohibited parking" 10.12.040

Are all parks that have a "camp host," who sleeps on the property, also a camp ground? I see no advertisement that these places are really campgrounds. What does the cop know about the rules for these places that is not made public?

I wasn't ever going to comment on this video, but people keep getting on Travis for responding the way he did. This is the response of a guy fed up with all the crap that goes along with just trying to go from point A to B. Constant hassle. Busy bodies and pushy cops. He is responding to the cop in the like. I think some of the negative comments are from people that eventually have changed their minds and are on his side now. I think some have seen how it really is just trying to mind your own business and some people or cops cant just let someone live their lives without interfering to make themselves feel important. How difficult is it to let someone else just live their life? Everyone of you clowns crap their pants when a cop shows up because you know a cop will find something to screw with you for.

The wording of the ordinance (in the description above) is telling... The ordinance was written with the intention of keeping a used car dealer from using public street parking spaces with the intention for business advertising purposes. The ordinance does however, allow the new car dealership to park specifically new models on the streets twice a year for a period of three days. Not only is Travis not a car dealer trying to sell his car, he's not taking up space on the city street adjacent to the new car dealership. Evidently the used car dealership the ordinance was spawned for would pretend to be working on the car to maintain the street parking spaces of his choosing to avoid the demand of the new car dealer to move them. It's all about power play and who's who in the township. Stupid resident business bickering gone stupid legal ordinance. And later, other stupid residents (and police) using the bully business bickering gone ordinance like a rock to throw it at harmless peaceful people visiting the public park and campground outside of town. The ordinance is completely irrelevant to Travis, whether he was working on his car or not. Stupid 👮 bootlickers 👢 are the most ignorant 💩 of sheople 🐏.

As someone that is planning on cooking rotisserie chicken in my van wherever I am legally allowed to park, this video offends me the most of all of your videos that I've seen. He literally just got through explaining that you were allowed to use a camp oven just over where the fireplace was, then he was dumbfounded by your statement that you were going to cook a chicken. If you explained why you had the bonnet up, I missed that, but I assume that guy never witnessed you actually working on the car, and I'm certain the cop never witnessed you working on the car. And again, as someone that has changed brake pads on my van in a carpark near an auto parts store so i have access to buy any tools I may need unexpectedly during the job, this also offends me. No one seems to know how to deal with someone that hasn't been forced through the meat grinder of social conformity. They all need to just mind their own business and leave people alone.

Ok folks, pipe down... This is preventative policing... Sanne was rather prejudicial (because of the source of the complaint) but reserved (seeing as he had no frame of reference for Heinze's "obfuscation"), and seeing as the initial contact was based on heresy, which is unlikely to get tossed...because it serves the purpose of revenue generation... I'd have just explained to the cop the totality of circumstances and then remained silent.

It's a pretty simple defense, did the officer ever witness you turning a wrench or other wise handling tools or having tools openly displayed in a manor that would suggest you are currently, will be, or have been working on the vehicle? NO! Then all he did was waste tax payers money and engage in fascism by enforcing corporate policy as though it were law. And, make no mistake about it all (99%) of cities and towns in America are corporations. Hence, City Ordnance is a corporate policy, NOT law. Scrutinize the policy, Deposition the officer, Submit your video as evidence, and submit a notarized fee structure to the city for your costs of attending their fascist court and building your defense. Most likely the Magistrate, not a Judge, will drop the issue before you even get halfway through this process.

Travis, I love your questions in response to questions. It really bugs the sh*t out of them. Keep doing what you're doing. We need more people like you to keep potentially abusive cops in check. They so often get away with this tactic because too many people are intimidated by the tactic. I have followed so many different 1st amendment auditors, each with their own style. There's the 'silent treatment', 'questions with questions' (your style) and the 'aggressive response to bullying'. All are effective. Every auditor needs to use the method that they are most comfortable with.

I asked Travis if his method was the Socratic Method for which I received a funny response without an answer (of course). What is the Socratic Method? I’ve watched almost all of travis’ interactions from this channel and this one is one of my favorites. It plays out like some sort of skit. Officer assumes Travis is working on vehicle. Travis knows he was never working on the vehicle yet allows the officer to continue down that path. Meanwhile, he’s cooking chicken, and this nearly gives the officer a coronary. If this was scripted it almost couldn’t be more brilliant. Travis does such a great job at creating this content.

@@Laocoon283 There in is the problem. What the witness saw, what the witness said they saw and what the cop says to Travis. The "witness could have said anything to the Cop as he seemed to take issue with Travis being there regardless of what he may have been doing. A "witness" could be an exagerated construct by the cop based on what he heard from the witness. Cop could be wanting to make it bigger and a whole lot worse as he tries to try get Travis to slip up in answering his questions. Cops can make up stuff. I saw no evidence of Travis "working on his car" if we agree that means doing mechanical repairs and servicing. Just a single guy driving around minding his own business seeing the country and taking each day as it comes. The cop wants compliance. It's about telling Travis and others what to do. He is obviously bored rather than run off his feet sorting out the local crime. Instead of being a nice guy and showing a good side to his town this cop makes it clear you and others are not welcome there. It's that small town small mind that gets such places stuck in the past. This type of policing the citizenry is neanderthal stuff, it says a lot about the town, the cop and the "witness". Or maybe "whitless"......... He has a right to silence and an expectation of innocence until proven guilty. I don't agree with all Travis does but I see no reason why the cop could not be reasonable and respectful to a citizen. This video makes the cop and this town look like fools. Damage for any good locals may do to encourage visitors/traveller's to stop and spend a few $$$$. And we all know how difficult it is to undo the poor reputation and project a positive image of this town. People minding their own business need to be left alone. This video reminds me of the homeless being hassled and ticketed by cops with more important stuff to deal with. People trying to survive should not be targeted. The poor have enough to deal with.
