Given that our lives can be upended in an instant, Rabbi Cosgrove exhorts us to make every day count, taking on personal agency through teshuvah/repentance, tefillah/spiritual living, and tzedakah/righteous giving.

RABBI ELLIOT COSGROVE IS SUCH AN INSIGHTFUL MAN OF GOD - AND YET HE ALWAYS ADDS THE JOY AND PURPOSE OF ALL AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GOODNESS OF GOD AND GODS WONDERFUL GRACE. HE ALWAYS TALK WITH KINDNESS AND SINCERITY, THE TONE OF HIS VOICE CONFIRMS HIS DEEP CARE MAY HE BE BLESSED BEYOND HIS IMAGINATION.

How does one regain his Jewish faith in G-d? My wife of 40 years left me as you say with a blink of an eye. At the funeral I screamed Why G-d. For two years I was lost until I found your sermons and your synagogue. To this I owe you a life now being fulfilled.

I find it a wonderful, inspiring message. I think the rabbi, however, misses a key point. The expectation of our redemption preannounces a moment when the Messiah will bring closure to our current unending, unsettling chaos. We live on the expectation of a happy ending. Otherwise, we are not better than those who deny the existence of the Eternal One, BH. Don't you think?
