Almost makes you wonder how much they really want their freight when they build cluster fuck docks like this.

Makes me think they'd rather pay for 2 or more straight trucks to deliver/pick up than have one trailer do the job

Well done buddy. When I was driving in Europe there a loads of places like that, especially London. Originally built to take a horse cart now you have to go in with an artic and back in sometimes on the blind side! Very good control and got the job done. Awesome!!
@RoadLord200011 жыл бұрын
20-year trucking veteran here, that's a tight-ass dock. I don't see being able to pull that off with a Pete 379. Guy did it reasonably quick with probably a few less pull-ups than I would have made.

I surprised my trainer the other day when I did my first unassisted back into a hole at a truck stop while he was asleep. should've seen the look on this guys face, man was he shocked!

I have the upmost respect for truck drivers, day cab, sleeper, doubles, flatbed, etc.. some people can't back up a prius, to manuever these big rigs, and do it safetly, and making it look easy,

As a trucker, I've gotta say this isn't an ideal situation for a new driver out on their own to back into with a lack of experience. The layout could have been a lot better, say a 45 degree angle to back into the dock as a secondary option. Either way, the tractor trailer would be blocking everything there
@DrGaryGreen2 ай бұрын
I quit trucking within 6 month because of stuff like this. During training I kept asking for more instruction on backing and kept getting told that I'd learn how to do it out on the road.

One thing that will make this "impossible" dock go even easier is to slide the tandems all the way to the back of the trailer. Having the "overhang" at the back works against you at those angles because the back is moving but the tandems are not. That's a frustrating scenario for a driver. Lots of docks/warehouse areas were built back when all they had were 48' trailers. Now 53' and 57' with a conventional semi makes it really tough on drivers and is just an accident waiting to happen.
@mrmete9 жыл бұрын
corstoyotaguy I'd have to keep that in mind next time, thanks

Ever see a mudslide in California on the news? Enough rain soaking and that hillside could give way and take the truck with it. That could lose the truck, the load and possibly the driver! All I am saying is that we (drivers) are often asked to do things that are unreasonable. Bet that company CEO respects his earnings more than the truck driver. Respect and consideration people!

@fratelemeu ..That is a good question.At the time I had driven for 26 years and when I came too the UK with my wife, I found out that I needed too everything again and I just did not have the want to do so. So I decided to try warehousing (Hate it).So I never bothered.I spent time unloading and loading and sat in a few trucks and i found the want too be back in the cab.So after awhile, the driving came too life again since we are returning too Canada, i found I needed too get back into the cab.

@fratelemeu .yeah,but it keeps up your skills and shows your ability goes beyond those who won't do the job. Personally,if I was the owner of that company ,I'd call your boss and compliment you on your skill.Trucking is a never ending class room of learning and you should never stop learning driving trucks until the day you retire. It's not your fault the trucks are bigger and i hear they may get bigger yet with up to 58 to 60 footers possibly coming...Nice job...very nice job..

@LT1HILLINGHOE i was just thinking the same thing..I had less space than that with a ditch..poles along the ditch and 2 trailers on either side at a angle with half a dock to bump.. at a ShopRite in NJ...30 mins to get in the hole...the shop rite ppl made me wait 5 hrs cause every guy that came there with a sleeper either tore down the telephone lines..went into a ditch or had to have a Shop rite driver with a day cab hook to their trailer and back it in,,

Its a good thing he is running a day cab, if it was like my 780 with the bunk it would never go in there, they would be bringing there stuff out and loading it with a pallet jack I can tell you that. That dock was built when trailers were 40 feet.
@tacomaken156 жыл бұрын
Short wheel base day tractors such as this one and 53 ft trailers make things very easy to back like this. With a few tries and small corrections. But now a days most scenarios like the are done with otr trucks with long wheel bases that have no turning radius. Making it nearly impossible even with the tandem slid all the What forward.

Things buildings have been there a long time and only the trucks have gotten bigger. I remember going into places when i could back in and the whole truck was in a straight line and you could walk around the front. Then in the early 80's they brought in the 42' and then 48's and you were no longer straight and crawling under the trailer. Eventually, they will have too modify the buildings, but in the mean time...we just have too get on with it...No sense whining, nothing changes ..yet.

I would have tried it in a sleeper truck.. I've never driven a day cab, but I do know they turn almost as tight as a yard dog... but, I know I would have made that in a sleeper truck, would have taken me a bit, but I could have.. Had this one pickup at Nestle in... Milwaukee a few years back. Driving my W900L, and had a dock sitting between two trailers with a brick wall in front of us (like that hill on this vid). I got it in, and you couldn't see the bottom of the wall over my hood. lol

custom ARI sleepers are restricted to shorter trailers, such as the 90" sleepers, DOT regs only alow you to be 70ft total length...for a reason. Thats why most of the custom sleepers you see are moving companys with 48' drop deck vans. Moving guys only go home every 6-7 monthes lol, they need the big sleepers.

North American tractor trailers are dual-wheeled on each side. The 3 wheels on each axle tractor trailer is not seen on the roads of NA. Perhaps this is due to the fact Europe is smaller and the roads/buildings/alleys are more tighter.
