I'm Chris Carreiro, I'm the CTO for Park Place Technologies. We're here in our Westboro facility - it's just outside of Boston, Massachusetts.
Behind me here is our liquid immersion lab. Basically, servers get placed into this immersion tank. The heat that the servers produce gets pulled out through the dielectric fluid, and it gets removed through a heat exchanger outside of the tank.
It doesn't require any air conditioning. It doesn't require any type of cold plates. It actually can cool servers all the way up to 90 degrees Farenheit. It's a much more effective, much more efficient way of cooling data center servers. You save about 40% of energy using liquid immersion as opposed to traditional data center cooling methods.
One of the second benefits of it is the rack density. You can squeeze about 10 times the amount of compute in the same physical space as you would in a traditional air-cooled data center.
Another benefit is noise. Traditional data centers have about 80-85 decibals. Using liquid immersion, you can virtually eliminate all of the noise produced by a server.
An immersion solution is very sustainable, because not only can you save power and energy, but you conserve water. You don't require chilled water, so you can get your PUE number down to under 1.03%.
So, immersion cooling is a future-proof method for a data center. Things are going to get hotter and hotter as we progress into the future and get hotter chips and more dense servers - you're going to need to remove that heat. This liquid cooling solution can remove 1000 times greater than a traditional air-cooled data center.
Some of the market drivers - things like AI and advanced computing - are requiring more and more CPUs and more GPUs, which are consuming more and more power within the data center. We're using about 3% of the world's power right now. That number is only going to increase if we stay on track with air-cooled data centers.
Liquid cooling is the only alternative to reducing the amount of power consumed by data centers. So, Park Place can help with an immersion cooling solution because we're going to offer a full turnkey solution. Park Place will be able to help on the procurement of the servers through our Curvature division. We'll be able to source the servers, we'll be able to convert the servers in our ISO-certified facility. We'll be able to install the GRC-certified immersion tank. We'll be able to maintain the tank, the fluid, and also the servers that are installed.
Park Place will also be able to monitor and maintain that IT equipment with our ParkView Managed Services. No other vendor, no other competitor is putting all the pieces together for this immersion solution. It's rather complicated to get into a liquid immersion system - Park Place is removing that complexity.
All data centers eventually are going to require liquid cooling. An immersion solution gives you that future-proof approach to upgrading and converting your data center to sustain the chips from now into the future.
