We continue our journey through beautiful Italy. This time we will visit Parma, see ancient Italian castles, fortresses, and other attractions of the city. Let's go shopping and find out how much food costs in Italy. And of course there will be a lot of local food and Italian wine.
We will start from the main square of Parma, where there is a cathedral and a baptistery made of pink marble in at least 60 shades.
From the square we will walk into the neighboring streets and see how modern residents of Parma live in the historical center of the city.
On the way, we saw a market and decided to see what vegetables and fruits were sold here, and how much they cost. Artichokes, blood oranges, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, lettuce, peas, pumpkin, cabbage, arugula, chicory, shallots, porcini mushrooms.
And then we went to the grocery store and looked at what they had there. All types of Italian pasta: grottini, filini, quadrotti, grattoni, quadrucci.
Let me remind you how this trip began. We were in Piedmont, in the wine communes of Barolo and Barbaresco, then we went to Cinque Terre. You can see about this here:
I'll show you how we got to Parma. On the way we stopped at the ancient and majestic castle of Torrechiara.
And after walking around the fortress, we decided to have lunch with traditional Parma dishes.
We tried salami and prosciutto. We ate Parmigiano and anolini risotto.
We are returning with you to Parma. Old streets, cute stone courtyards. Squares that amaze with their architecture. In one square we saw a monument to the partisans who fought against the Mussolini regime.
I really want to take home some local delicacies. We go buy them to the grocery store. We buy products with truffle. Very expensive mushrooms and very cheap parmesan.
We continue our walk and go to Piazza Garibaldi. Let's look at the second theater in Italy.
We'll have a snack with horse meat sandwiches with zucchini and pizza. We eat right on the street. But it's very tasty.
We continue our walk. We explore the ancient palace located in the city center - Pilotta Square. We go out to the Parma River, from the bridge there is a view of the old city.
We find the holy of holies of Parma gastronomy - a parmesan shop.
And then we head to the Ducal Palace, where Napoleon Bonaparte himself loved to visit.
We will end our walk at the grocery store, where our friend Luca will tell us and show us different varieties of local meat and dairy delicacies. We'll try culatello with parmesan.
And at the end we will ask Luca, as a local resident, what is most important to him in beautiful Parma.
