He found his voice so early too, his music projects in high school allowed him to perfect it. Into college and beyond with his work on Teenage Cool Kids, he was truly able to explore more in music because of that foundation work he put in. He truly has earned where he's at right now, he has put in the work for so many years!

sounds like it's actually pretty shredded here, in a way that might not be healthy. he might just be sick or this might be late in a set/tour/whatever but it sounds like his vocal chords are kinda giving out.

One of the things I love about this band is their ability to look like they’re about to fall into total collapse at any moment, but at the same time keep it all together with perfect execution. Other than the drummer who just looks like he’s chillin, playing with Lego’s.

We are conductors of sound, heat and energy And I bet that you thought you had us figured out from the start We are conduits of clear electricity Now you’re back on the pitch to take the apparatus apart [Pre-Chorus 1] You’re an ancient now You're an ancient now You're an ancient now On your own [Chorus 1] Rebels, teachers Strikers, sweepers Better protected Whenever collected [Verse 2] We are troubled by your soft curiosity But delighted to be anti everything you were taught Are you put off by our footloose fluidity? Have your hurt caucasian feelings left you so distraught? [Pre-Chorus 2] Are you quite done now? Are you quite done now? Are you quite done now? Not at all [Chorus 2] Workers, authors Poets, stoppers Power resembled If we are assembled [Verse 3] Only through those who stay awake can an institution be dismantled It is dishonest, nay, a sin to stand for any anthem that attempts to drown out the roar of oppression [Bridge] Hesse Total Football Twombly Total Football Tzara Total Football Mina Total Football Panthers Total Football KoBrA Total Football Dada Total Football Beatles Total Football [Outro] Swapping parts and roles is not acting but rather emancipation from expectation Collectivism and autonomy are not mutually exclusive Those who find discomfort in your goals of liberation will be issued no apology And fuck Tom Brady!

Andrew Savage in recent interview with NPR: ""Total Football" isn't exactly a hardcore song, but that's the imagery I see when I hear it. Kids stage-diving and creepy crawling. Definitely a lot of [hardcore punk] youth crew influence toward the end, with the gang vocals, and the vocals on the outro. The bass line of the song was inspired by Devo. I had these parts written for the longest time before [adding] the pre-chorus and chorus bits. The lyrics take the form of a manifesto, which is fitting for the first song on this album I think. Bold and declarative."
@sixthdutch6 жыл бұрын
The album art also has a reference to that album (Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!) and this song in particular. The cover has "Q: Are you quite done now? A: Not at all!" which is also a lyric in this song.
