Back in the 80's, I lived in Belize. We had a yellow headed parrot, named Maggie. She got out of her cage one evening and flew into the bush. I worried all night for her. The next morning I found her on the septic tank outside. When I went to get her, I scolded her for flying off and all she said was "I love you!" I guess that was her way of apologizing. I loved her so much too.

@graciep.69847 жыл бұрын
lapetitemoma Maggie made it pretty clear where she wanted to be. She had the option of freedom, and she chose a life with you. A hand-reared bird won't know the dangers after one night, and a captured bird (I shudder at the thought of those poor creatures) would have been right at home. Many people can't handle all of the attention and commitment a parrot needs in order to be happy. It sounds like Maggie was getting all of this, and found it preferable to a wild lifestyle. That says great things about you. :-)

Owner: I know you miss a lot of sleep. This baby is both smart and funny. The baby's headstrong too. It's so comical when everybody and the baby started talking and laughing at the same time. Please make sure this little genius has someone to adopt him when you pass away. Parrots outlive humans. What a companion you have! God bless you.

That's a very cool parrot, and it's obviously well socialized and tamed. But you need to study more about a bird's body language. When a bird flares out its tail feathers like that and its pupils shrink, that means it is either overly excited, or is feeling uncomfortable and upset. It bit you as a warning. It didn't want to hurt you, and could have bit a lot harder if it wanted to. It looks like he likes to be held, but both of you were making too much noise and were annoying him.
@Juju2012ZA3 жыл бұрын
Sentients aren't "it". We should use him or her.
@calebblewy1493 жыл бұрын
You can’t tell if an amazon is male or female, no harm in calling them “it”. Only other option is to say “they/them” but it’s the same as just saying “it was talking”
@LarsBahner3 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same. The parrot was obviously trying to say "this is too much". But tame and polite as it is it just gave a warning bite. Parrots are a bit like kids, when they are tired and need to be calmed down not excited like this.

We've got a blue-fronted amazon who looks JUST like this guy. One of the most fun things about owning a parrot is this sort of interaction. Every morning as my mom gets ready to go to work, she puts our parrot, Felix, on the top of the open bathroom door. They're bonded, and as she's gone most of the day, this time is very important to him. Most parrots LOVE being talked to, or when you repeat what they say. Kilo appears to be very loved.

@AmandaMG69 жыл бұрын
I think so, too. I'd never call myself a "parront" but since I got my eclectus, I totally get it... Bonds run DEEP and I'm a huge dog lover, but for some reason, birds are just more somehow. Even my little girl tiel, who will never talk, she's just so smart with so much personality. They pet your hair, do funny things to hear you laugh, rub their faces on yours when you're sad, sit quietly on your shoulder when you're busy. Just so.... Symbiotic?

@lilytheminilop40507 жыл бұрын
Marc Wookiee Idk. I have kept birds, dogs, cats, and rabbits. I find rabbits the easiest. No bathing. No taking for walks. No having to let them out to go potty. Can't jump on my countertops like a cat. No sleeping on my head like a cat or waking me up at 6am like a dog. No vaccines. Less shedding. No noise. Dogs are great but I see them as high maintenance compared to other pets.

actually the tailfeathers being spread out is a sign of fear and agitated, plus she rubbed her finger right over his vent area, which you should never do to a bird also spreading the legs is just pain rude to the bird because they hate unstable perches, that bird was not comfortable or happy at all with being on that women's hands.
