Parrots Free Flying Off a Cliff

7 жыл бұрынI took the x3 McNugget rainbow chickens out to a look out today, Roku & Korra LOOOOOOVE this location so it's nice to bring both of them out at once.
It was Pabu's first time at this location and he did amazingly well, what we find with first timers at this spot is that for the first time ever instead of seeing us down on the ground as they fly we are now the highest point, it's reversed. So Pabu flew off the rock and then flew down and around the rock face looking for us until realising he had to look up and fly up haha he got it in the end! woo! cotton candy warrior!!

Yeah they passed us on the hike up there, asked what we were doing and were excited to see it so waited for us :D they were so lovely and appreciative :)

Thank you for explaning that Roku was blocking her landing. There's so many things about the social dynamics of birds that are kind of like "duh" once you know them but if you (i) dont, i'd think their behaviour was perfectly fine and Korra wasnt tired at all.

He just gets so excited to have someone in the air with him, but not many birds have his stamina. Korra is still young and building her fitness/

that part where Roku overtook Kora was full of grace and beauty. I love your vids, can't get enough. I wish I was there with you guys to experience the majestic beauty of these birds in flight. My brother has a sun conure and she's adorable.

This is probably going to sound stupid but, what keeps them from flying away? Is it because "the humans" are their flock? They're absolutely gorgeous and I LOVE watching your videos!

If you have any other questions just let me know :) Essentially though your on the right track, it's a natural behaviour to stay with the flock and not stray however pet indoor parrots cannot do this as they do not have the same brain development giving them the flight skill and confidence to be able to do so.

Iv'e always loved parrots and birds but I could never bring myself to clip their wings so I just watched them from afar If I had known this training existed I would have gotten a cockatoo years ago.

We have the same problems with people vandalizing boulders with graffiti at our parks here in the states.

As a teenager pilot when i was 17 years old. I used to take the airplane I was licensed on and fly over my mothers house, which gave me the money for the flight. A pleasure to see her waving to me from 600 feet away. She could see me too she said. With binoculars. Crazy kid i was.

I dont recommend ever letting pet indoor parrots outside as free flight is Not based on relationship/recall. your very very lucky they returned but I would bank on this always being the case. 100% healthier as proven by science based research and annual Avian vet checks, bloods etc. Fully flighted outdoors (even indoors) prevents muscle atrophy. How do you train Pabu, Korra, Roku freefly? And how old are they? What is their daily food menu? Have they been molting?

They fly daily :D they are on a premium cold pressed pellet, then they have mixed nuts, some fruit, veggies, sprouts and some clay lol

Did you know it has been discovered the Amazon macaws eat clay to supplement the salt in their diet? Many animals crave extra salt, such as farm animals liking salt licks.

Do scarlet and blue-and-yellow macaws breed?

it's possible that can happen in the wild but would not be common, it is however common in pet macaws with breeders (not so much in Australia) scarlet x blue and gold will give you the Catalina macaw. Pretty controversial when on the topic of hybridising macaws.

it can be a result of not having their needs met or ignoring what they are trying to tell you. No parrot is savage for no reason, so I highly recommend learning how to read their body language so you have a clear indication when they are getting uncomfortable. That way your working within their comfort level and this is what builds trust, love and relationship.
